    Abducted Anglican Bishop, Wife And Driver Regain Freedom

    The Anglican Bishop Rt Rev Aderogba Adeyinka of Jebba Anglican Diocese, Kwara State, his wife and a driver who were abducted on Sunday have regained their freedom.

    The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.

    “The Massive deployment of Police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the Police Tactical teams pressurized the abductors into freeing the victims,” the statement read, adding that the victims were released unhurt at about 18:20 pm on Tuesday.

    The Bishop, his wife and the driver were abducted on Sunday along the new Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo State.

    Following the abduction, Osifeso said preliminary investigations revealed that before the incident, the victims’ vehicle had developed what seemed like a mechanical fault while traveling from Yewa in Ogun State to Jebba in Kwara.

    Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations of the Command was directed to oversee the case.

    According to the PPRO, investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.

    armed bandits have abducted Bishop of Anglican Diocese, Jebba, Kwara State, Rt. Rev. Aderogba, alongside his wife and driver on Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway, on Sunday.

    The victims were said to be on their way to Yewa in Ogun state when the incident happened.

    When contacted, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the abduction.

    Investigation by Vanguard, however, revealed that the abductors forced their vehicle to stop on motion before they were forced to enter another stationed vehicle.

    It was further learnt that they were yet to establish link with the relations of their abductees.

    Confirming the incident, the Police image maker said the command had launched manhunt for the suspected kidnappers

    He said: “On Sunday 12/06/2022 at about 2100HRS, One Rev. Adekunle Adeluwa reported to the Command through an incidented report at Atiba Divisional Police Headquarters, Oyo town that at about 2030HRS, One Bishop Rt. Rev Aderogba of Jebba Diocese, Kwara State in the Company of his Wife and driver were abducted.

    “Preliminary investigations reveals that the victim’s vehicle developed what seemed a mechanical fault while traveling from Yewa, Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State enroute an isolated area along New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.

    “The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations of the Command is in Charge of the rescue operation that has commenced since 2100HRS of Sunday 12/06/2022.

    “All the tactical teams of the Command Anti-Kidnapping squad, Ambush Squad, Puff Adder, Police Mobile Force, PMF, Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, and Conventional Police personnel along with local hunters and vigilantes are all involved in the rescue operations.

    “Meanwhile, discreet investigation led by the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, is simultaneously been vigorously embarked upon to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt.

    “While enjoining members of the public to report any suspicion to the nearest Police Division or formation, credible and timely information, the general public are assured of their safety as the go about their lawful activities.” The PPRO Osifeso assured.

    Anglican Bishop suspended for allegedly having sex with wife of another priest

    Rufus Adepoju, the Diocesan Bishop of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) of Ekiti West has been suspended over an alleged sexual misconduct.

    Announcement of his suspension was conveyed in a letter dated December 11, 2020 and signed by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev Henry Ndukuba.

    It was learnt that Adepoju who was allegedly caught with the wife of a priest under his employment and care, has admitted wrongdoing. With his suspension, the Bishop would not partake in any church activity for a year.

    The letter read;

    “Advent greetings in the precious name of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. We write with a deep sense of concern and pain to suspend you from office as the Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ekiti West.

    “This is sequel to your conduct giving just cause for scandal and abhorrent sexual behaviour with the wife of a priest under your employment and care. These facts were admitted by you in a meeting in our office held on Thursday December 10, 2020.

    “By this suspension, you are not to partake in any activity of the Diocese as the Diocesan Bishop for a period of one (1) year effective from the date of this letter. Please report and handover to your Archbishop and for further spiritual guidance.

    “It is our prayer that you will use the period to seek the face of God as we join in upholding you in prayers. The supervision of the Diocese of Ekiti is hereby devolved upon us the Primate of All Nigeria. The LORD be with you.”
