APC Crisis Deepens as Isaac Yargwa Defects to ADC, Citing Economic Hardship Under Tinubu

    From Abel Zwanke, Lafia

Former Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Isaac Lucky Yargwa, has intensified the ongoing crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) after formally defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the ruling party has failed Nigerians and requires a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.Speaking to journalists on Monday in Lafia, Dr. Yargwa said his exit from the APC was prompted by what he described as harsh socio-economic conditions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He stated that the APC had abandoned its core values and no longer represented the interests of ordinary Nigerians.According to him, the “current administration has ushered in hardship and misery,” adding that poverty, insecurity, and economic instability had deepened nationwide. “Any right-thinking Nigerian will understand why we need an alternative government,” he said.

Despite his departure, Dr. Yargwa stressed that his loyalty to Governor Abdullahi Sule remained intact. He described the governor as a mentor and father figure, noting that his respect for the governor transcended party lines and was unaffected by what he termed APC’s “national failures.”

He accused the APC in Nasarawa State of becoming factionalized and infiltrated by “new entrants” whose intentions, he alleged, were to undermine Governor Sule ahead of 2027. The internal crisis, he said, had made meaningful participation difficult for genuine party stakeholders. “The party’s structures are being manipulated, and internal democracy no longer exists,” he added.Explaining his move to the ADC, Dr. Yargwa said the party offered unity, integrity, and credible leadership. He praised its nearly two decades of existence, noting that its inclusive structure provided a platform for Nigerians seeking meaningful reform. “ADC is not just another political vehicle. Many political actors from APC are quietly supporting ADC because they recognise the need for reform,” he stated.

Addressing concerns that defections might destabilize the ADC, he insisted that the party was fundamentally different from other platforms because it prioritizes principles over personal ambition. He said his transition into the party three months earlier had been smooth and broadly accepted. On national political alignments, he welcomed collaborations with leading opposition figures such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Nasir El-Rufai, saying such alliances would strengthen the pursuit of good governance and meaningful reform.Dr. Yargwa also expressed confidence in Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, a prominent figure in the ADC, describing him as competent and fully prepared to lead Nasarawa State in 2027. He highlighted Abdullahi’s experience across local, state, and national levels, describing him as the leader capable of “hitting the ground running.”

He urged residents of Nasarawa State to embrace the ADC as a viable alternative, calling on voters to choose courage over hardship. He argued that the ruling party had brought poverty, insecurity, corruption, and economic decline. “This is the time for courage and vision. ADC is offering a genuine alternative,” he said. The former commissioner appealed especially to young Nigerians to take charge of the nation’s political future in 2027 by electing leaders committed to development, security, and prosperity. “Nigeria cannot continue on this path of economic collapse and insecurity. Change is not just possible — it is necessary,” he added.Dr. Yargwa reaffirmed his commitment to mobilizing grassroots support for the ADC, saying his defection marked the beginning of a new political era in Nasarawa State as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.

APC Crisis: Let bygones be bygones – Gov Bello tells party leaders

Governor Sani Abubakar Bello of Niger State has called on the stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ‘let bygones be bygones’.

He said the party leaders must sheath their swords and put their houses in order ahead of the 2023 elections.

Recall that the governor declared himself the acting National Chairman of the APC on Monday.

He made the call to the APC leaders at a meeting where he addressed State chairmen of the party.

“By the time you get back, you will unite the party in your various States,” Governor Bello said.

“Please, please, please, let bygones be bygones. You have to bring everyone together, those that were for you and against you.

“What we want is a united, unified APC in your various States, because we have elections around the corner and we hope and pray that by God’s grace, we will have a better result in 2023 than in 2019,” Bello charged the State party leaders.

Bello resumed work as the ruling party’s acting Chairman on Monday but later met a stiff opposition from Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni’s camp

Report suggests that there was a failed move to remove Buni as the chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the APC.

Reports emerged on Monday that President Buhari had approved Buni’s removal and appointed Bello as his replacement to head the CECPC.

But Bello, who addressed some of the party’s internal issues at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, was forced to do a walk back after he was confronted with the legal implication of the president usurping the powers of the APC National Executive Committee (NEC), the only body that can sack Buni or the CECPC.

He was then forced to accept that he only presided over the meeting of CECPC because Buni was absent.

APC Crisis: Shekarau-led faction adamant, reject sharing formula

    By Isaac Kertyo

There seems to be no end in sight in the fight for the soul and control of party structure of All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kano State as the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau led faction rejected the guidelines for harmonization of party structure released by the APC headquarters which also named Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to head the supervisory committee of the exercise in the state.

Recall that there were frantic efforts to reconcile the warring factions with a series of meetings held at the instance of the APC headquarters led by the National Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni and that which told the factions to expect a template for the harmonization and sharing formula of the party structure in the state.

A letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman, Abdullahi Y. Gashua and made available to newsmen on Monday night named Governor Ganduje to head the state supervisory Committee to ensure the harmonization of the party structure in the state.

In a swift reaction, the Shekarau led faction rejected in its entirety the content of the letter by the National leader noting that it is totally unacceptable.

In a letter titled “RE: Guidelines For The Harmonization Of The Party Structure In Kano State”, signed by the G7 faction namely, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano Central), Senator Barau I. Jibrin (Kano North), Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe (D/Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa Fed. Constituency), Hon. Nasiru Abduwa Gabasawa (Gezawa/Gabasawa Fed Constituency), Hon. Barr. Haruna I. Dederi (Karaye/Rogo Fed Constituency), Hon. Sha’aban Sharada (Kano Municipal) and Alh. Shehu Dalhatu (Chairman, Buhari Support Group), said they rejected the sharing formula and named the Governor as head of the committee.

“We, the undersigned, hereby write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 7th February 2022 in respect of the above subject matter, which was submitted to the Leader of our Forum, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau (Sardaunan Kano).

“Once again, we appreciate your tireless concern and efforts to “restore sanity and bring back the unity of purpose and re-enact the trust among the APC, Kano State family”

“You may wish to recall that since the commencement of the reconciliation moves, several meetings were held at your instance and submissions made by both sides relating to the proposed composition of harmonized leadership of our party in Kano State at all levels.
We had anticipated that the communication from you would be reflective of the proposals and/or submissions made to you.

“Regrettably, however, your said letter to us never contained the proposals and/or submissions put forward by both sides, nor even made specific reference to them.

“Furthermore, to our utter dismay and disenchantment, the letter had even gone viral in the social media emanating from Kano State Government circles even before reaching us, mischievously paraded as conclusive evidence that the party would be surrendered to the” H.E. Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje faction.”

“In the circumstances, therefore, we are constrained to notify you Sir, that the entirety of the content of your letter is totally unacceptable to us.

“Once more, we wish to reiterate our firm commitment to the promotion and preservation of the integrity of our great party and its leadership.

“We wish you Allah’s guidance and protection as you continue to pilot the affairs of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” they said.

Earlier, part of the letter by the Chief of Staff, Gashua reads: “I am directed by H.E, Mai Mala Buni, National Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, of our great party to write and forward for your information and necessary action, template for the harmonization of the party structure in Kano State.

“Your support and cooperation to the success of this exercise is please anticipated,” it said.

The mode for the harmonization as contained in the letter reads, “a bottom-top caucus shall be constituted at each local government area. The Caucus shall have the following as members:

“(a) Serving Senator, if he is from the Local Government, (b) Serving Member, House of Representatives, if he is from the Local Government, (c) Serving Member, State House of Assembly, if he is from the Local Government, (d) Serving Council Chairman and his Deputy, (e) Hon. Commissioner from the Local Government, (f) Special Advisers from the Local Government, (g) Member of CECPC from the Local Government, (i) Hon. Minister from the Local Government and (j) One woman to be nominated by His Excellency in due consultation with Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau”.

“Terms and reference Include, each Local Government Caucus will meet and come up with a proposed structure for all Wards and Local Governments.

“The proposed structure will be forwarded to the joint. National/State Committee for final vetting or amendment as the case may be.

“All Caucus members are RESTRICTED to only their Local Government Areas.

“The National/State Joint Supervisory Committee reserves the right to adopt or amend any proposal submitted to it by the Local Government Caucus.

“The National/State Joint Supervisory Committee has the following as members: H.E. (Dr) Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau, HE. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Sen. Abba Ali and a Secretariat.

“The Committee will sit in Kano State and will have 7 days within which to complete and submit its report.

“The State Supervisory Committee is to be headed by H.E (Dr) Abdullah Umar Ganduje, the Executive Governor of Kano State, who is the party leader and to be assisted by Ibrahim Shekarau,” the letter however reads.

  • APC crisis: Ajimobi sues for peace, says NEC meeting holds soon

APC crisis: Ajimobi sues for peace, says NEC meeting holds soon

The Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (South), Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has called on all stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress to continue to observe peace.

Ajimobi was quoted to have said this on Tuesday night after the APC NWC named him acting National Chairman.

He was named the acting national chairman following an Appeal Court ruling upholding the suspension of the substantive Chairman, Adams Oshiomole.

Ajimobi’s call was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Bolaji Tunji, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, on Wednesday.

The statement read in part, “Senator Ajimobi took over the leadership of the party in line with Section 14 subsection 3 of the APC constitution that states that, “the Deputy National Chairman shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”.

It further quoted the acting national chairman as saying a meeting of the National Executive Council would “be called soon” to resolve all contentious issues.

Ajimobi said, “We should therefore let peace continue to reign until we call the NEC meeting and take a position on the way forward.”

Senator Ajimobi took over as the Deputy National Chairman in March 2020 when the NWC wrote a letter to the South-West to nominate a candidate for the vacant position of the Deputy National Chairman (South) after the position became vacant with the appointment of Otunba Niyi Adebayo as a minister.

The appointment of Senator Ajimobi received the support of five of the Six South West states of Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun and Lagos with Ekiti alone protesting the nomination.

Ajimobi’s appointment into the NWC was further affirmed by a Federal High Court.

However, it remains unclear whether Ajimobi who is reportedly receiving medical care at a Lagos Hospital will be at the party National Secretariat today.

Also, there are strong indications that the party’s Deputy National Secretary, Victor Giadom, will be making another move to step in as the acting chairman relying on an earlier court order initially suspending Oshiomhole.

APC crisis: Nwosu lauds Buhari’s intervention

Mr Uche Nwosu, the 2019 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in Imo, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his intervention in the crisis rocking All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwosu said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said that the President’s intervention had saved APC from collapse because the crisis would have escalated beyond management.
He urged APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to use the opportunity given to him by President to make peace with party members.
According to him, if the President hasn’t intervene, the problem in APC would have escalated.
Nwosu, who described Buhari as the strongest weapon in the APC, said that his intervention in the party should be taken seriously.
He called on party stakeholders to accept the olive branch extended to them by Oshiomhole.
“There is need for every party member to sue for peace because the collapse of APC would not be good for anybody,” he said.

Nwosu urged party chieftains to concentrate on how to make APC stronger and enduring rather than engaging themselves on 2023.

“Let me say it, 2023 is still far and it is only God that can give anybody Presidency in 2023.

“Let nobody think that the earlier he start preparing for the presidential ticket, the better his chances of haven it,” he said. (NAN)

    APC Vice-Chair backs Oshiomhole’s suspension

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress took a turn for the worse on Wednesday, following a court injunction suspending Adams Oshiomhole as the party’s National Chairman.

National Vice Chairman (North-East), Salihu Mustapha, who backed the court decision, told reporters that following the court injunction, Oshiomhole was for now, in no position to issue any instruction as doing so will be “illegal, null and void”.

He explained that his intervention was based on information that as soon as the court pronouncement became public, Oshiomhole allegedly instructed the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu to issue a statement announcing Waziri Bulama, as acting National Secretary.

Mustapha said, “Immediately the court injunction was given, the national chairman has called the party’s chief press secretary (National Publicity Secretary) to issue a statement to the press that Waziri Bulama is the (acting) National Secretary to the Party.

“I believe you are aware of the meeting held about a month ago on that matter, which ended without a decision. Since then there has not been a decision as to the replacement of the secretary.

“The chairman is about to create more chaos within the party as he gave the order.

“The public should know that any decision that Oshiomhole makes henceforth is an illegal decision and will not hold.

“We will keep our fingers crossed until the court decides. I am saying this so that there can be no two acting National Secretaries and there can be no affirmation from a national chairman that has been suspended.”

Oshiomhole’s suspension was a sequel to an action instituted by one Olawale Afolabi, who described himself as a member of the party, went to court to stop Oshimohole from performing the functions of the national chairman.

According to him, Oshiomhole ceased to be the APC National Chairman from the day he was suspended by the Edo State Chapter of the party.
