Senator Abribe made his decision known in a letter to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in his ward, Ward 5, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

In the letter dated May 24, 2022, the Senator wrote, “This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity, and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents”.

Concerning his next move, he told Channels Television that he would be vying for the Abia South senatorial seat under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In a separate letter, Senator Abaribe notified Senate President Ahmed Lawan of his resignation from the PDP.

“This also means my resignation as Minority Leader of the Senate,” he said.

“I wish to thank you and my dear colleagues in the leadership of the Senate for the warm camaraderie we enjoyed while I was Minority Leader.”

  • APGA Debunks Assassination Attempt on Gov Soludo

APGA Debunks Assassination Attempt on Gov Soludo

The All Progressives Grand Alliance has debunked the report making the rounds of an assassination attempt on the Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.

The party said nothing of such had happened since Soludo became the governor of the state, describing the report as an orchestrated plot by “mischief makers” to instill fear in the minds of the people “just as it is condemnable”.

Addressing journalists in Awka, on Monday, the National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, maintained that the governor would not yield to the “evil wishes” of the criminal elements who want to hold the state spellbound.

Obigwe said the hoodlums only launched a “hit and run attack” on the Isuofia community and not on the governor’s convoy.

He urged the general public to disregard the twisted report just as he reminded the media that they have a role in eradicating criminality in Anambra and the South-East region.

The party insisted that no criminal elements could withstand the level of preparedness the governor has placed on security in the state as “security remains the bedrock of sustainable development”.

The party said, “There was nothing like an attack on the governor. What happened was that criminal elements currently suffocating under the heat of the governor’s merciless onslaught against them decided to launch a hit and run attack at Isuofia.

“They did that to frighten the residents of Isuofia and to see if Soludo will back out of his decision to end the senseless every Monday sit-at-home in Anambra.

“But they have forgotten that the governor will not yield to their evil wishes as he is determined to deal decisively with them because security is the bedrock of sustainable development.

“Soludo’s convoy was not attacked at all, so I can’t tell how they got the news of Soludo’s escape from an assassination attempt in Anambra.”

The party assured the people not to panic because the state was in safe hands as the state government was determined to chase the criminals out of our state.

“With Soludo’s level of preparation, criminals cannot withstand the presence of his convoy in any environment in the state. He is fully prepared, they are the ones to run from him and not the other way round as was reported.

“Soludo was not even at Isuofia when the ugly shooting incident occurred as was reported that he was at Isuofia and escaped being assassinated,” Obigwe added.

  • Anambra Deputy Governor’s Defection To APC Long Expected – APGA

Anambra Deputy Governor’s Defection To APC Long Expected – APGA

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reacted to the defection of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, APGA National Publicity Secretary, Tex Okechukwu, said the action of the deputy governor has no consequence of the party ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.

He added that the defection was long expected since Okeke had been grudging everyone over his inability to secure the party’s governorship ticket.

“The deputy governor had thought that the governor (Willie Obiano) and the party were going to hand over the governorship ticket of the party in the last primary to him on a platter,” said Okechukwu.

“When that didn’t happen, he started behaving abnormally, even to the point of insubordination and dereliction of duties.”

Okechukwu, however, stated that APGA viewed the exit of the deputy governor, without formal notification to the party or his principal, as uncalled for, ill-timed, and ill-advised as the governor had always treated him with respect, love, and consideration.

According to him, the party condemns the desperation being exhibited by the opposition APC in the build-up to the governorship election.

The APGA spokesman also called on all members of the party to remain united to ensure that they win the election with wider margins.

“Let nobody be deceived – APC has no root anywhere in Anambra State and that is why all that they do is going about luring political deadwood with money and other lucres,” Okechuchwu added.

“No matter the designs of the opposition and other subterranean forces, APGA Is poised to win the forthcoming election and continue with the massive infrastructural development going on in the state.”

Soldier Killed As Armed Bandits Thwart APGA Campaign In Anambra

A group of armed men on Tuesday thwarted the scheduled campaign of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the gunmen were repelled by security operatives already present at the scene of the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Ahead of the governorship election to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on November 6, the party’s campaign train was billed to hit Ihiala, but that was unsuccessful.

The assailants were said to have stormed the area in the morning, shooting sporadically in an attempt to make their way into Odoata Central School – the venue of the rally.

Shortly after their arrival, they were engaged by a joint team of security operatives – comprising soldiers and policemen – drafted to the venue to prevent any form of breakdown of law and order.

The Commissioner for Information in Anambra, Cdon Adinuba, who also confirmed the incident, disclosed that a soldier was killed during the shootout.

He faulted the reports the convoy of the state governor, Willie Obiano, was attacked by the assailants, stressing that the security operatives repelled the attack.

Adinuba said that the armed men, who came on some motorcycles vehicles, were forced to flee the scene as a result of the superior firepower of the security operatives.

According to him, they later ran into the large premises of a hospital located directly opposite the campaign ground.

Ikenga, on his part, stated that no casualty was recorded by the police.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the hoodlums started shooting sporadically while arriving at Odata Central School, but they were successfully repelled by police operatives and military personnel on ground,” he said in a statement.

Some of the items recovered by the security operatives include an AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and four vehicles.

The command’s spokesman said normalcy has returned to the area and asked residents to report people with gunshot wounds as soon as possible.
