    Niger Republic, Kano State to strengthen students exchange programme

    Barely 48 hours after the Niger Republic’s Minister of Vocational training, Kassoum Mamane Moctar visited Kano on a study tour of youth empowerment programmes and skills acquisition facilities in the State, his counterpart of Education and Scientific research Dr.Mamadou Djibo from the same neighbouring West African country has also visited Governor Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to seek for greater cooperation through strengthen of students exchange programme and other related issues on collaborations between tertiary institutions in Niger Republic and Kano State.

    In his speech at Kano Government House on Thursday, the Minister said many years back students from Niger Republic come to Nigeria particularly Kano to study in various tertiary institutions.

    “Now we want that students exchange programme to be revived and sustained”.

    “Through the partnership we will promote quality of education and research in both our tertiary institutions which will be of benefit to all of us he said “.

    In his remarks while responding on behalf of the Governor, his Deputy Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said Kano State is ready to collaborate with Niger Republic in areas of interest and benefit.

    He then thanked delegation from Niger Republic for the visit and assured of cooperation.

    Those in attendance during the occasion include the Commissioner of Higher Education Dr.Mariya Mahmud Bunkure and other Senior government officials.

    Kano APC Crisis Won’t Divert My Attention – Ganduje

    Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje says crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will not divert his government’s attention from developing the state.

    Ganduje, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, said this at the Government House in Kano Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting.

    He said: “It’s very important for all to know that our political dexterity and political experience will not allow small party crisis to divert our attention in further developing our dear state, Kano.

    “What’s happening is just part of the culture of democracy.”

    He said the meeting was to emphasize the need for peace in the party.

    “We should not be set back because of the normal party crisis. This is very normal in democratic practice,” Ganduje said.

    The meeting was attended by Senator Kabiru Gaya, members of the House of Representatives, the speaker and members of the Kano State House of Assembly, local government chairmen as well as APC ward, local government and state leaders, among others.

    Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has reiterated that his administration is committed to working with development partners towards ensuring quality of education.

    He stated this on tuesday while flagging-off the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), a programme of UK Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) at the Government House, Kano.

    Represented by his Deputy Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the Governor commended the FCDO for initiating the PLANE programme which he says would assist in strengthening the quality of education in the State.

    “We have launched the Free and Compulsory Basic Education policy therefore we would do all we can to give our support to ensure the success of the PLANE programme”.

    “We have already formulated policies on education and also increased the budgetary allocation of the sector all aimed towards developing the sector, infact we appreciate our strong relationship with FCDO he said”.

    In her remarks, Hajiya Nafisa Ado,the FCDO Regional Coordinator said the agency designed the PLANE programme as a follow up to UK Government’s commitment to global goals on education to improve access by bringing 40 million girls back to school and enhance quality through making 20 million more to learn to read in primary and secondary schools in low and lower-middle income countries by 2026.

    She further said, PLANE is an over £170 million pounds programme which would run for 8 years beginning from September 2021.

    Speaking, the Deputy National Programme Manager of PLANE, Mr.Olalekan Sa’id explained highlights of the programme which include offering technical support for the Free Compulsory Basic and Post Basic Education in the State.

    He also said that the programme would support improved coordination and development of an organisational framework for implementing Girls Education initiatives and also provide support for improved learning outcomes particularly for girls and children with disabilities through technical assistance to improved teaching and learning practices.

    The rector, Kano state polytechnic, Dr. Kabir Bello Dungurawa has discloses that governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s policy on education is rapidly yielding profit at both primary, secondary, tertiary institutions and state owned universities.

    He States this in an interview with our correspondent shortly after observing an eid prayers in his hometown, where he stresses that Kano state education sector is witnessing real change due to profitable policies being usually applied which are being seen physically.

    Dr. Kabir Bello states that ” in Kano state, governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is making everything possible to ensure that all his provisions in the area of education are fully implemented like what is being enjoyed today, therefore I am certain that in the near future Kano’s education systems would become a subject of emulation “. He said.

    The rector therefore assured that Kano state government deserves respect and praise for maintaining the best status of education sector especially at present when the sector is still having various challenges in Nigeria sue to what is happening as a result of Covid-19 pandemic which is a global issue.

    Speaking on Kano state polytechnic, Dr. Dungurawa announced that ” we recorded tremendous achievements since my appointment as rector, and I am operating on Seven-point agendas which I believe is working successfully in the running the affairs of the polytechnic, while an open door policy remained our channel to bringing excellent legacies at the place whenever we are not there” He lamented.

    In conclusion, Dr. Kabir Bello Dungurawa thanked both the teaching and non teaching staff that are working under the polytechnic for their good supports and cooperation while we put heads together in promoting academic pursuit and good learning atmosphere at all the institutions that are under the polytechnic and solicited for more collective responsibility.

    First republic politician and former Adviser on assembly matters to late President Shehu Shagari, Elder Tanko Yakasai has broke silence about the circumstances surrounding the arrest of his Salihu Tanko Yakasai, the media adviser to Kano state Governor.
    The vocalist and chairman Northern Elders Council (NEC) Elder Yakasai, in a chat with our Kaduna correspondent, Monday morning expressed surprised that his son was arrested without any charges preferred against him since on Friday.
    He said his son was arrested on Friday and taken to Abuja on Saturday morning, adding that his siblings however met him in SSS yesterday Sunday and okayed his condition.

    His words: “They don’t pronounce any charge against him. The arrested him in Kano on Friday evening and took him to Abuja on Saturday morning.

    “But two of his siblings met him in SSS office yesterday. He was in good shape according to them. They will go back today”, he said.
    Recalled that Salihu Tanko, the media adviser to Governor of state Kano state Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been in the news for allegedly criticising president Buhari before he was recently arrested by operatives of the security personnel.

    We are committed towards making Kano the most viable trade centre, says Ganduje

    Kano State Governor Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has said his administration is committed towards making Kano the most commercial viable centre among the 36 states of the federation.

    He stated this during the opening ceremony of the 41st Kano International Trade Fair in Kano. 

    Represented by his Deputy Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the Governor explained that the desire to attain the position of the most attractive trade state is clearly evident by examining the programmes and project embarked upon by the State Government in order to attract more investors from within and outside the country.

    “Our administration as part of its dire need to change the outlook of markets and also to enable them compete favourably with international markets came up with the idea of ‘Yan Tebura Mall at Kantin Kwari Market which is one of its kind in the whole northern Nigeria,” he said.

    “The cumulative effects of this project will be economic growth manifested in employment opportunities, job creation and income diversification thereby reducing poverty,”Ganduje said.

    He further pointed out that despite the threat posed to continuing existence of commercial activities in the northern part of the country by insecurity challenges, his administration is not relenting its commitment to ensure the security of lives and investment in collaboration with security agencies that makes Kano one of the safest destinations.

    Ganduje however commended Kano Chamber of commerce (KACCIMA) for organising the Trade Fair, describing the feat as indication of shrewdness and commitment of members to make Kano a role model in commerce and industry.

    In his remarks, the Minister Of Trade Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo represented by Alhaji Tukur Muhammad said the theme of this year’s fair-promoting the growth of micro, small and medium scale enterprises for Nigeria’s accelerated industrial development is in tandem with Federal Government’s commitment to its mandate of boosting the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises in order to ensure that their products meet the acceptable global standards.

    He further applauds the effort of the State Government and KACCIMA for creating a conducive environment for business activities in Kano despite the economic challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic.

    Speaking earlier, the President of the Kano Chamber Of Commerce represented by the 1st Deputy President Of the Council, Ambassador Usman Darma said over the years they have achieved alot in promotion of local products.

    He also expressed appreciation to the effort made by President Muhammad Buhari and Kano State Government in revamping commercial activities in the country.

    Kano relaxes lockdown

    Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Governor of Kano State, has relaxed the restriction placed on Monday as a lockdown day in the state

    According to a statement signed on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malan Abba Anwar, the additional day means that Kano State has a total of four free days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) as opposed to three free days that were previously approved.

    The statement added that the policy decision was to further cushion the effect and hardship caused by lockdown in the state as a result of the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state.

    “People are now free to move freely on Mondays within the stipulated time of 6am-6pm” said the statement.

    The governor urged the people to continue to wear their face masks, to maintain social distancing, use their hand sanitizer and wash their hand with soap and running water.

    Ganduje further directed all the markets and other public places in the state to continue to observe the protocols.
