NDLEA Arrests Notorious Drug Dealer behind London-bound Multiple Consignments

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested one Okoli Collins Ikenna, whom the agency described as a “notorious drug dealer,” for allegedly masterminding recent attempts to export illicit drugs to London in the United Kingdom through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).

NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday disclosed that Okoli had been on bail following his arrest in November 2020 and subsequent arraignment before a Lagos Federal High Court for attempting to export 15.700kgs of Methamphetamine to Australia.

Series of investigations into recent multiple attempts to export illicit drugs to the UK led to the arrest of the drug dealer on Tuesday 2nd November when he was caught with 78 parcels of cannabis concealed in black soap packs and labelled as Dudu Osun, with a total weight of 12.250 kilograms heading to the United Kingdom.

Further investigation also linked Okoli to the attempt to export 7.350kgs of cannabis to the UK on Thursday 21st October, a consignment that was intercepted at the NAHCO export shed of the MMIA.

Curiously, a separate investigation by operatives of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) of the agency, attached to courier companies have equally traced two other attempts to export 47.7kgs of cannabis to the UK through courier firms to Okoli after his agents, arrested in the course of the investigation, named him as the owner of the consignments.

In the same vein, desperate bids by traffickers to export over 2 kilograms of cocaine, methamphetamine, and cannabis hidden inside containers of body cream, tea bags, vehicle oil, and air filters to London, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and New Zealand through two major courier firms in Lagos have been scuttled by narcotic officers of the Agency.

Meanwhile, in Kano, a controlled delivery of an illicit consignment on Friday 5th November led to the arrest of two suspects: Ibrahim Sulaiman and Muhammad Sani Alhassan with 23kgs of Diazepam tablets; 2kgs of Codeine syrup and 32kgs of Exol 5 tablets, bringing the total weight to 57kgs.

Earlier on Wednesday, operatives of the Kano command of the agency had arrested one Mizambilu Tijjani, with 64kgs of cannabis sativa, and Victor Nsodikwa Chu-chu, with 34 cartons of Pentazocine injection and one carton of Diazepam injection in the Sabongari area of the city.

In Kogi State, operatives also seized a consignment containing 28.251kgs of Exol- 5; 6.6kgs of Barcadin Codeine Syrup; over 38.532kgs of Tramadol, bringing the total drugs seized to 73.808kgs.

In a related development, operatives of the Osun State command seized 130.518kgs of cannabis and 18grams of cocaine in the Modakeke area of Ile-Ife.

Impressed by the outcome of investigations that led to the dismantling of the suspected drug syndicate led by Okoli in Lagos, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the officers and men of the MMIA command, DOGI, and their counterparts in Kano, Kogi, and Osun for sustaining the heat on cartels across the country.

He urged them and their compatriots in other commands to intensify the offensive action against all merchants of death in Nigeria.

Notorious Drug Dealer Sentenced To 15 Years Imprisonment In Katsina

The Katsina Division of the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Hadiza Shagari has on Wednesday sentenced a notorious drug trafficker, Ibrahim Ali to Fifteen (15) years imprisonment without an option of a fine.

Before his arrest in November, last year by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Ali was reported to have been into drug trading in Katsina town particularly the state capital.

In a press briefing held at the state command headquarters of the NDLEA, Katsina, the state commander, Mr. Momoudu Sule told reporters that the young drug trafficker has been arrested severally by the command and was counseled and told not to go back to the business anymore but the admonitions proved abortive.

Sule while describing 15 years as quite a long period of time, believes that taking the drug trafficker out of the streets will boost the reduction of the illicit drug trade in Katsina town significantly and will serve as a deterrent to others who are still involved in the trade.

“We teamed up in November and charged him to court and by the grace of Almighty God, he is successfully prosecuted and got him convicted.

“To the glory of God, Ibrahim Ali is now sentenced to 15 years imprisonment without option of fine.

“Fifteen years is quite a long time and I believe our taking him out of the streets will come to boost significantly the reduction of illicit drug trade in Katsina town and will serve as a reminder to those who are involved in this trade and that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.

“So Ibrahim Ali has been evicted from our society and taken to where he rightfully belongs to which is prison. I therefore want to appeal to those who are involved in this business to have a rethink because here in Katsina State, it’s not business as usual.

“We are coming after you, we will get you, we will prosecute you diligently and ensure we seek your conviction to put you where you rightfully belong,” Sule stated.

Last year, the State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA arrested 446 drug suspects and seized 701.05669 kilograms of assorted drugs.

The various forms of drugs such as Dizapam and exol 10 tables seized were seen concealed in cola nut bags to deceive the NDLEA officers.

Among those arrested last year according to the state Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Momoudu Sule were 92 students of higher institutions of learning in the state comprising 70 males and 22 females who were arrested in various houses they rented in the state capital.

He noted that the level of drug abuse and trafficking among youths in the state has become an issue of serious concern to many.
