    #EndSARS: Buhari breaks silence on protests, sends directive to IG of Police

    President Muhammadu Buhari has finally spoken on the ongoing nationwide protests against alleged brutality and extortion by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

    The protests have been going on nationwide for over 72 hours.

    In a statement late on Friday night, Buhari confirmed that he had met with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

    The president expressed his determination to reform the Police Force and ensure that officers are fully accountable to Nigerians.

    “The IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses and ensure erring personnel are brought to justice. I appeal for patience and calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.

    “The vast majority of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are patriotic and committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, and we will continue to support them to do their job,” the statement posted in his Twitter handle read in part.

    Lagos lawmakers meet over #EndSARS protest

    The Lagos State House of Assembly on Friday held an emergency sitting over the ongoing #EndSARS protest in the state.

    During the sitting, the lawmakers called on the Federal Government to put an end to the harassment, extortion, and intimidation of Nigerians by the operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

    They also called on the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, to provide protection for the protesters, while they express their grievances.

    The emergency sitting was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa.

    Among the seven-point resolution passed after an extensive deliberation was that the Senate and the House of Representatives should carry out a probe of the allegations against F-SARS including killing, maiming and dehumanising of Nigerians.

    The House resolved that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State should protect End-SARS Protesters in the state and ensure that they are not molested and that he should stop unwarranted molestation of the youths by the FSARS and its counterparts in the State.

    They demanded that the Senate President and the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives should institute a public enquiry on the extra-judicial activities, killings, maiming and dehumanisation of the youths by the Anti- Robbery Squad; and ensure that the victims are duly compensated while erring officers sanctioned appropriately.

    “SARS should be proscribed and a new security outfit which will be more efficient with clearly spelt out code of conduct and rule of engagements be established while sanction is imposed for the misdemeanour.

    “Mr President should ensure that culpable officials of SARS receive the punishment as prescribed by the National Assembly,” the lawmakers stated in their resolution.

    The Assembly also directed its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions to “liaise with the Commissioner of Police and Attorney General of the State to fashion out ways and means to address allegations of ruthlessness and extrajudicial killings contained in the petition against SARS in the state”.

    The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was also urged to engage relevant institutions “to protect lives and property in the state such that phones, laptops and other means of communication belonging to youths are not confiscated indiscriminately without a warrant.”

    Billionaire’s daughter, DJ Cuppy has lend her voice on the “End Sars” protest going on in Nigeria.

    The singer and daughter to billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, took to micro blogging platform, Twitter to reveal that “She would be lying if I said I’m directly affected by SARS”

    Mr Macaroni joins #EndSARS protest, spends night at Lagos government house

    Popular Social media comedian Mr Macaroni passed the night at the Lagos State Government House in Alausa after leading a protest late into Thursday night against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

    Mr Macaroni revealed this via his twitter handle on Thursday night saying “Just heard that another youth got shot in Delta. We are not leaving Alausa tonight!! We are sleeping in front of the Government House. Someone must take responsibility! #AlutaContinua #EndSars.”

    At 4am on Friday (this morning), he also tweeted: “Are you there??? It’s 4:00am!!! We are still here! We deserve better!!! #EndSARS #ALutaContinua.”

    Mr Macaroni born Debo Adebayo was among a number of celebrities who took to the streets on Thursday for the anti-SARS protest in several parts of Lagos.

    The protesters want the government to scrap the squad completely as against the government’s plan to reform it.

    Nigerians on twitter have dragged multiple award winning singer, Burna Boy for refusing to join other celebrities and protest again #EndSars.

    Few hours ago, celebrities including, Runtown, Falz, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, and Nollywood actors and actresses took to social media to added their voice to the end SARS protest.

    However, Burna Boy has not made any reaction of said anything about the development and fans are outrage over his unconcerned attitude as he is rather promoting his song on Twitter.

    Not all policemen are bad – Naira Marley opposes #EndSARS protest

    Controversial Nigerian rapper, Naira Marley has via his instalive reacted to the call to end SARS by asserting that he doesn’t think “end SARS is the problem” because he knows many SARS officers who do a great job.

    According to the singer, said the outcry amongst Nigerians on social media to end SARS due to the cruelty they subject Nigerian youths to.

    Reacting, Naira Marley said: “I’m just gonna talk my own opinion. 

    “Deep down with me personally, I don’t think end SARS is the problem. It’s not about end SARS. What are you talking about end SARS?

    “If you end SARS, what? They’re not gonna end police. Police is still going to shoot.”

    He pointed out that shooting is what needs to be stopped not ending SARS.

    He continued: “To be honest, there’s a lot of SARS that’s actually done their work. Not all police are bad. They’re not all bad.

    “Some of them are actually good, you know? Some of them are good, do you get me? There are some SARS that have actually done a lot of work, do you understand? Like, there are SARS that are actually working.

    “You can’t just say end SARS just because one SARS or two SARS f**ked up.”
