    CAA’S U18/20 Championship: Engr. Gusau Hails Performance of Team Nigeria

    The immediate past Vice-President of the Confederation of African Athletics CAA, Engr.Dr.Ibrahim Shehu Gusau has hailed the performance of team Nigeria at the just concluded CAA’s Under 18/20 Championship held in Ndola, Zambia.

    Team Nigeria won 17 Gold, 10 Silver and 9 Bronze medals to finish in second place on the medal table behind South Africa at the quadrennial championship.

    In his congratulatory message on Friday, the highly revered Athletics Administrator says the performance of the team is a testament to the fact that talents are abound in Nigeria; while stressing on the need for talent discovery, training and exposure to global platforms, which according to him, will in turn result to future podium finish.

    “I want to extend my heart felt congratulations to these young Nigerians who made the country proud at the just concluded African U18/20 Athletics Championship in Zambia.
    The records achieved is a testament to the fact that talents are abound in Nigeria; and these talents require training and exposure to global platforms in order to achieve podium finish in the near future.
    I am impressed by the performance and feat achieved by Samuel Ogazi, obliterating the 46.26secs record of Lythe Pillay, the South African in 400m with his 46.01secs.That is the Nigerian spirit!

    Others are appreciated, especially Faith Okwose, Fejiro Djoma and Justine Jimoh for flying the country’s flag high in Zambia.”Engr.Gusau said.
    Recall,that Nigeria finished top at the medals table in the last edition held at the Stade Felix Hoouphouet-Biogny, Abidjan, Ivory Coast in 2019, producing stars like Favour Ofili, Grace Nwokocha, Rosemary Chukwuma and Enoch Adegoke.

    Engr. Gusau Hails Tonobok Okowa, Others for Emerging Victorious in CAA Region II Polls

    The immediate past President of the Confederation of African Athletes CAA Region II, Engr. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau has congratulated the newly elected executives of the region for emerging victorious at the elective congress held at the Lam Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Accra,Ghana on Saturday.

    Nigeria’s Chief Tonobok Okowa emerged as President of CAA Region II after defeating the President of Benin Republic Athletics Federation, Degon Vierin in the second round 9-6 after the first round ended in a stalemate.

    Engr.Gusau, the Chief Observer of the election in a statement issued on Sunday said the region won, as neither victors nor vanquish emerged.

    “The CAA Region II being the biggest in the continent of Africa is one big and strong family with a sole purpose to develop Athletics.Saturday’s election was only a family debate to choose who will run the affairs of the region for the next four years.I congratulate those elected, while those who weren’t elected should know, and understand that we must all join hands with these executives to lift the region.

    I therefore charge all elected officials to work hard and ensure unity among our members.The challenges are enormous,but they are surmountable.

    Under my leadership, we were able to organise the region’s annual competition; this ought to continue for the sake of building on results achieved in the last four years,wherein meaningful progress was made in our various national federations.I can attest that this has enabled us to achieve that strong bond in the region.

    Again,I congratulate all our members because we all are winners.”His statement reads.

    Others elected are; Doudou Joof as Vice President, Alio Oumarou emerged as Financial Director, Ousmane Camara emerged as Auditor, while Sawadogo Missirit returned as Technical Director.
    Aminata Keita and Ouoally Sara were elected Council Members.

    Region II comprises of all countries in West Africa.
