    Oyo Govt. To Sanction School Heads, Teachers for Exam Malpractice in WASSCE

    Oyo state government has stated that it will henceforth penalise Principals and Teachers fingered in any form of examination malpractices and falsification of documents by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

    The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, made this declaration, today, in Ibadan, while reacting to a report, indicting some schools by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) on the conduct of the recently released result in the state.

    Barrister Abdu-Raheem, condemned such acts of corruption and malpractices, vowing that if found culpable of such offences, the headship of such school will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

    According to the Honourable Commissioner, the State government under the leadership of Engineer Seyi Makinde, would not compromise hard-work for dishonesty.

    He emphasized that the present Government is putting everything aright in the education sector of the state, through provision of funds, regular payment of salaries, arrears and promotions.

    Barrister Abdu-Raheem emphasized zero tolerance for examination malpractices by the present administration, stating that the end result of examination malpractices is not just suicidal but capable of painting the state in bad light, also messing up and destroying the future of the young ones

    Also speaking, the Honourable Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Pastor Akinade Alamu, cautioned School managements and teachers to be wary of such acts.

    Represented by the Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Bisi Oderinde, the Chairman stated that any Principal or teacher found culpable will be demoted coupled with other serial sanctions.

    “Principals of Schools are warned to always be present during examinations as no excuse will be tolerated”, he said.

    Kogi Poly Expels 4 Students, Rusticated 1 For Exam Malpractices, Social Vices

    The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja has approved the expulsion of four students over issues bordering on examination misconduct and other social vices.

    The expulsion According to a statement made available to the journalists in Lokoja by the Head, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the institution, Uredo Omale was part of the far reaching decisions made at the Board’s meeting held recently at the institution’s Main Campus in Lokoja.

    The Board Chaired  by the Rector, Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, also approved results of First Semester for the 2019/2020 Academic Session.

    The students expelled for examination malpractice were Aliu Abdulrahman, an ND I student of Science and Laboratory Technology (2019/ND/SLT/216), Shaibu Danjuma (HND I), Graphic Department (2018/HND/IDD/011) and Hadiza Abubakar (2018/HND/CPS/183), an HND II student of Computer Science Department.

    Another student, Abudulmalik Wahab of the Mechanical Engineering Department (2018/ND/ME/043 was also expelled for being in possession of dangerous weapon and evidence of involvement in cultism.

    Durojaiye Helen Taiye, an HND II student of the Industrial Design (2018/HND/IDD/007) was found with extraneous materials not related to the particular examination inscribed on her palms, and was rusticated for one semester.

    The Rector, who appreciated the committees on examination  misconduct for the thorough job done, said the Polytechnic would not condone any act capable of bringing it to disrepute, and therefore, appealed to students to always be on the side of the law.

    Dr Usman further explained that the postponement of SUG Elections, Students’ Week and NAKOSS elections till next session was part of the plan to ensure adequate security of lives and properties on campus.

    He reiterated Management’s commitment to make Kogi State Polytechnic the best among the comity of higher institutions of learning.

    Present at the Academic Board Meeting were the Deputy Rector, Dr Kehinde Lamidi, Acting. Registrar, Mallam Zubair O. Raji, Acting Librarian, Mrs O. M. Audu, among others.

    Exam Malpractices: Kogi Poly Parades 16 Students, 32 On The Run Over Magic Centres Outside Campus

    Aftermath the discovery and bursting of the “examination magic centres” outside Kogi state Polytechnic, no fewer than 16 students have been arrested while over 32 are on the run.

    The Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Salihu Ogbo Usman, who disclosed this at a press conference held in Lokoja on Monday, tagged his address as “stemming the tides of endemic academic decadence and lawlessness in Kogi state Polytechnic”.

    He pointed out that the “magic centres” were created and controlled by a syndicate of some disgruntled elements in the system and have been operating within the campus while the examination was ongoing.

    According to Dr Usman, “on the 5th of November 2020 , our team of security were able to burst one of the centres called ‘Champion Logde’ at Sarkin Noma a suburb of Lokoja after the primary school.”

    The Rector pointed out that Even though the suspects escaped before the arrival of the security team, a total of 32 scripts already answered with respective different courses bearing students particulars were retrieved from “California Lodge” at the same Sarki Noma axis where they were kept for onward transmission to their principals”

    With the un -relented efforts of the security unit and the management team, the Rector disclosed that other participants at the magic centre were arrested on Friday last week, who confessed to, not only participated, but also paid N2,000 per paper.

    Dr. Usman further pointed out that as at Monday 9th November 2020,  additional 12 participants of the alleged magic centres were also arrested and they equally confessed of their involvement in the malpractice, while two students of the school, Victor Attah the owner the room used as the magic centre and Daniel Ikoja whose room was used as transit point of the script were arrested respectively.

    Dr. Usman alleged that some staff of the institution who are bent on sabotaging the ongoing reforms embarked by the new administration, have been inciting students against the constituted authority of Polytechnic.

    He therefore warned staff, students and the entire Polytechnic community, that the management under his watch would not tolerate acts capable of tarnishing the credibility of the results and certificates of the institution.

    The Rector warned the deviant students and their collaborators to desist from short cut practices in their own interest and in the common interest of all of us.

    Dr. Usman who commended the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for creating enabling environment for learning therefore assured the  the state, parents and students of an open door policy of administration, commitment to the principles of the present government with high expectation of attaining Education excellence.
