    FCT Minister of State expresses administration’s zeal to partner, boost healthcare delivery for residents

    FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has  reiterated the Administration’s zeal to partner with health care organizations to boost quality healthcare services to residents.   

    Aliyu, who made the commitment at the grand opening ceremony of a state of the art laboratory centre established by the Arab International Laboratory and Diagnostics Centre in Abuja,

    She said the commitment is targeted at meeting the healthcare needs of the FCT teeming population by strengthening the existing health facilities across the six area councils of the territory.

    The minister noted that the duty of providing quality healthcare services is a daunting task that must be achieved, adding that the Administration cannot accomplish this alone.

    She said facilities such as the Arab International Laboratory and Diagnostics Centre would not only meet the healthcare needs of its host community, but also boost healthcare delivery system in the territory.  

    “I am aware that, the need for this project arose from a practical encounter of members with inadequacy of centres for testing in our health facilities. Therefore, true to the spirit to improve on healthcare delivery system the Arab International Laboratory and Diagnostics Centre decided to establish this befitting centre.”

    The minister who served as the chief host at the opening ceremony urged personnel in the facility to observe Standard Operating Procedures in taking care of clients, just as she expressed optimism that the centre would improve health outcomes for residents in the catchment of the facility.  

    As partners with health stakeholders, we will continue to strengthen the existing healthcare facilities across the six Area Councils to meet the high demand of our people, she promised.  

    “I want to commend our partner, the Arab International Laboratory and Diagnostics Centre, for this centre, which I believe will improve health outcomes for residents in the catchment of this facility,” she affirmed.  

    Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, said the council would continue to drive the culture of quality and efficient health laboratory care to the public.  

    Erhabor who tasked the centre to provide fast, reliable and high quality medical laboratory investigations in Nigeria, he also affirmed the council’s optimism that the centre would provide services based on ISO 15189 that drives medical laboratories globally.  

    He further urged the management of the centre to engage the services of experienced, qualified and licensed medical laboratory scientists with deliberate investment in continuous professional development with services.

    As part of activities to celebrate the New Year, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu has paid the hospital bills of a Triplet born in the wake of the New Year, as she donated delivery kits and baby items in selected Primary Health Care Centre across the six Area Councils of the territory.

    Aliyu specifically offset the medical bills of an indigent father, Mr. Salihu Abubakar, whose wife gave birth to a triplet in Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital also presented undisclosed cash donations to other mothers for the upkeep of their babies.

    The minister who was represented by the Special Assistant on Primary Health Care, Mr. Muhammed Ibrahim donated items to beneficiaries at Dutse Makaranta Primary Health Care Centre in Bwari Area Council, and advised mothers on the need for early training if their children, adding that children are gifts from God.
    Aliyu noted that the successful delivery recorded in various primary healthcare centres as a bundle of joy, and prayed that joy we continue to radiate in the Federal Capital Territory in 2022 and beyond.

    She enjoined mothers to accept all vaccines given during government approved immunization campaigns and to ensure that their babies complete the routine immunization before the age of two years,

    “Remember to take care of yourselves and attend Post Natal clinics and continue to take your routine medicines. On my part, I will continue to identify with you and sharing in your joy. ”

    “Since I came to office in 2019, I have continued to implement and support initiatives that would improve the health of mothers and children particularly towards reducing maternal and child deaths from preventable causes, also empowering women to contribute meaningfully to the upkeep of themselves and their families.”

    I will also encourage you to always contribute to the growth of the family in particular and community at large. All babies born today are welcome and I pray to God to continue to grant mothers and babies good health, while the fathers continue to have the means to support their families, Aliyu stated.

    Furthermore the minister reiterated the FCT Administration’s determination to support those in genuine needs which is a way of promoting the culture of being our brother’s keepers at all times.

    A beneficiary, Mrs. Dennis Uke, mother of baby Adiya Uke, in Dutse Makaranta Primary Health Care Centre, who delivered at 4:10am thanked the minister for the kind gesture, adding that the items and cash donation would assist mothers at this early stage of delivery.

    The ministerial team also visited Old Kutunku Primary Health Care Centre in Gwagwalada Area Council, Lugbe Primary Health Care Centre in Abuja Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dutse Primary Health Care in Bwari Area Council, Dabi Bako Primary Health Care in Kwali Area Council, New Township Clinic in Abaji Area Council amongst others.

    Also in the same spirit of celebrating the New Year, the FCT Minister of State also donated assorted food items and clothing to over 300 persons with disabilities as part of her reach-out programme to the vulnerable in the society.

    Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, the Mandate Secretary in charge of FCT Social Development Secretariat, Hajia Hadiza Mohammed Kabir, stated that the donated items would go a long way to assist the vulnerables during this festive period.

    Speaking on behalf of persons with disabilities, Princess Ada Obi, acknowledged the kind gesture of the minister and assured that the items would be fairly distributed to all the beneficiaries.

    Items donated include 300 cartons of Indomie, 300 packs of Combo, 300 bags of 10kg rice and 300 pieces of Ankara cloth.

    The Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria (COCSGIN) has commended the FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Aliyu for leading the enlightenment campaigns to educate Abuja residents on the deadly covid-19 pandemic.

    The National Leader of COCSGIN, Mr Nwosu Emmanuel, in statement on Wednesday in Abuja noted that the minister demonstrated extraordinary capacity.

    The coalition berated the unsubstantiated claim by Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) that the minister violated the social distancing regulation by engaging in enlightenment campaigns to locations where citizens had refused to obey the stay-at-home-order.

     

    ” We wonder why HURIWA will call out the the minister as violating the social distancing regulation, when in actual fact; she is sacrificing so much to ensure that those who are clustered around, refusing to stay at home are enlightened on the need to obey the stay- at- home order.

     

    ” We join millions of Nigerians in thanking Dr Ramatu Aliyu, Minister of State, FCT for leading the war against COVID-19.

     

    ” Our citizens have been most grateful to this workaholic and pragmatic leader for her passion and dedication in combating the pandemic since it broke out.

     

    ” As the distribution of palliatives commences in the FCT, Nigerians will once again witness the microscopic precision and mathematical accuracy with which this distribution will be executed without compromising social distancing.

     

    ” We have implicit confidence in her ability,” the statement explained.

     

    It thanked the minister for exposing the falsehood peddled by fake news merchants who claimed that over a hundred Covid-19 patients were dumped at Kubwa General Hospital without any care.
