    Ganduje Taking Measures To Ends Farmers/Herders Conflict- Stakeholders

    By Jabiru Hassan, Kano.
    Kano state governor has been commended for his initiatives to ensure that conflicts between the farmers and herdsmen become a history in Kano state through the provision of more grazing reserves, livestock passages and other infrastructures in some RUGA settlements.

    Speaking to our correspondent in Kano, the leader of Kunnawa Dam herdsmen Ardo Alhaji Gaza told Daybreak news that ” the measures duly taken by the Kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is an important efforts towards the promotion of peace and unity among the two important sides, and we are solidly behind the governor’s efforts “. He lamented.

    Alhaji Gaza said that they are law abiding citizens and they were at Kunnawa Dam grazing lands for many years without any clash between the farmers and herdsmen of the area which is a commendable issue, where he assured that they would continue to live together because they needs each other in one place, calling on his people to maintain the good relationship.
    In conclusion, Geza called on the Kano state governor and the chairman of Dawakin Tofa local government council to join hands and repair Kunnawa Dam which break just at the commencement of this year’s rainfall season in order to promote dry season farming and for their livestock consumption which also promotes peace and economic progress at the location, where there is a teaming youth who are actively into farming that minimises rural to urban migration for national security.

    In his remark, a large scale farmer in the area Malam Ahmad Buhari disclosed that governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje deserves respect for bringing out excellent strategies that enhanced peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in Kano state, and hoped that the governor would ensure that all grazing reserves and animals passages were re-demarcated and put in active uses due to control conflicts between the two sides.

    Our correspondent monitored how some grazing lands were sold to wealthy people by some unpatriotic local  traditional rulers and some  local government executives that are being converted to farmlands which contributes to the high number of conflicts between the farmers and herdsmen  that usually resulted in the lost of lives and properties which needs severe penalty to all those who were found red handed in such offense across Kano state.

    Ganduje reinstates suspended aide who called out President Buhari over #EndSARS protest

    Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has reinstated his media aide, Salihu Tanko Yakasai a.k.a Dawisu who he suspended for calling out President Buhari during the #EndSARS protest.

    Dawisu had accused the Buhari-led government of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians even though he went round the country soliciting for votes in 2019.

    He tweeted at that time;

    “I have never seen a government with zero empathy like that of President Muhammadu Buhari.

    “So many times when his people are going through a difficult time and expect some sort of tap on shoulder to reassure them that he is in charge, but he failed to do so.

    “The ‘I don’t care attitude’ is on another level.

    “To speak to your own people over issues that are bedevilling them has become something like a favour you are doing to them.

    “Over and over again, you cannot spare five minutes to address the nation to calm them down, the same people you went to the 36 states to beg for their votes, it is heartbreaking.”

    The Kano Governor’s media aide has now confirmed his reinstatement, two weeks after he was suspended.

    Dawisu tweeted;

    I wish to thank each and every one that reached out to me, or sent messages of goodwill over my reinstatement as Special Adviser Media to H.E @GovUmarGanduje, after my 2wks suspension. I am grateful to you all for your support and prayers. Thank you so much. #ZeroTension

    Kano elders petition Buhari, others over Ganduje’s move to take loan from China

    Kano Unity Forum, headed by a former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention, Alhaji Bashir Tofa, has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Assembly, and the Federal Ministry of Finance, against moves by Governor Ganduje to take over N300 Billion loan from China.

    The elders who are local based and specialized groups on Thursday expressed grave reservations against the insistence resolve of the Governor to obtain loan from China Development Bank to construct phase 1 component of Light Mono Rail project in the State metropolis.

    The petition signed personally by elder statesman, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa on behalf of Kano Unity Forum and made available to newsmen, explained that “save for few in official circles, nobody else knows the terms and conditions of the loan agreement”, adding that, “the exact amount being borrowed is shrouded in secrecy”.

    The strongly worded statement noted that, “A 1st phase of the project costing over N300 billion, or may be even the N828 billion mentioned by others, coming mostly from a foreign loan is mind-boggling, to say the least. A rethink is not only needed, but necessary.”

    Tofa in the signed statement stressed that “based on the analysis of the present indebtedness of Kano State as provided for by the Debt Management Office (DMO) Nigeria, it is extremely difficult, almost impossible for Kano State to sustain any indebtedness beyond the current liability portfolio of the state.”

    The Forum cautioned that, “It needs to be noted that a rail project is never a project to be put in haste as we observed that it is neither in the medium nor long term plans of the State Government.”

    The Kano stakeholders stated that, “If indeed the Chinese want to genuinely help with cheap loans, they should be requested to support critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, power, science and technology, infrastructure, industry and water supply”, adding that “after all, the Chinese have become world leaders in these aspects of transformative development.”

    The Group declared that “Kano Unity Forum would not give any self-serving politician the latitude to increase poverty and deprivation within the general public through ill-conceived public works.”

    The Forum cautioned that, “We shall not be deluded by the attractive idea of good return from the investment. Rail project world over are known as highly capital intensive with a very negligible rate of return on investment. It’s more of a social welfare project, especially in less developed economies. “
