Don’t make the mistake to vote PDP in 2023 – Gov El-Rufai tells Kaduna Residents

Governor Nasir El-Rufai has urged residents of the states not to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.

The governor made the call when he spoke at an empowerment program in the state today November 24. According to him, PDP will only destroy his good legacies if the party is voted into office in 2023. He added that the opposition party will also “drag the state and the entire country backward” if allowed to return to power.

He urged the people to rally around and vote for the candidate he will anoint as his successor in 2023, asking them to trust him in his choice of who will be the next governor of Kaduna state.

“Some people said that what we have done now cannot be reversed, wrong. A bad governor, a PDP governor can reverse this in six months.

Don’t make the mistake of voting PDP back into office in 2023. If you do, things will go back to what they used to be. While we go through our process as APC and bring out a candidate and I endorse that candidate, please trust me that that person will be the better governor of Kaduna from 2023 and beyond” he said

The governor accused the two former Senators of Kaduna North and Kaduna central, Shehu Sani and Suleiman Hunkuyi, of blocking the massive development in Kaduna State that would have surpassed the feat achieved by his administration which Kaduna people are now celebrating.

Anti-open grazing law has come to stay – Akeredolu replies El-Rufai

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said that the anti-open grazing law has come to stay.

Akeredolu, who is the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, had signed into law the Anti-Grazing Bill passed by the State House of Assembly, despite Miyetti Allah saying members would not recognize any anti-open grazing policy in the country (read here).

However, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, responded, saying the anti-open grazing law by the southern governors is not implementable (read here).

Responding to El-Rufai, Akeredolu said the law has come to stay.

Speaking through the state commissioner for Information and orientation, Donald Ojogo, Akeredolu said: “There is no wisdom in condemning/banning open grazing, prohibiting inter border movement of cattle in the North, including Kaduna, with an accompanying disapproval of a law that gives bite to same, in another part of the country.

“For emphasis, any such comment like that of the Kaduna Governor, if indeed he made that statement, merely seeks to encourage anarchy under the guise of resentment of a Law by affected stakeholders.

“It’s a ploy beyond the ordinary. It must, however, be noted that the Anti-Grazing Law, especially in Ondo State, has come to stay. It shall be zealously guarded and conscionably deployed to protect all residents of Ondo State, notwithstanding their ethnic and religious biases. Those who have nothing evil to perpetrate have nothing to fear as regards the Law.”

  • Kaduna’s N10bn Cattle Ranch Will Be Ready In Two Years – El-Rufai

Kaduna’s N10bn Cattle Ranch Will Be Ready In Two Years – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, on Tuesday, said the state has embarked on a N10 billion cattle ranch project to centralise all herders in Kaduna.

El-Rufai, who spoke with newsmen shortly after a meeting with officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, said the project will be completed in two years.

The governor said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was supporting the state with about N7.5 billion for the success of the project.

He said the Northern States Governors’ Forum has already taken a position that open grazing is not a sustainable way of livestock production but ranching.

“But moving towards ranching cannot be done overnight. We have to have a plan; we have to have resources and we have to implement it sensibly. We have taken a position as northern state governors and we are implementing that.

“In my state for instance, we are developing a huge ranch to centralize the herders. And that is the solution a long time. But can it be done overnight? No.

“This project we are doing will cost us about N10 billion. The CBN is supporting us with about N7.5 billion. And it will take about two years to do.

“And I hope that the Fulani herdsmen, they will see that there are alternative ways of producing livestock instead of running up and down with cattle going to people’s farms to cause all kinds of problems. We want to solve the problem.

“What is unhelpful is politicising the situation and passing legislation that you know that you cannot implement. So, we have taken a position and we are working round the clock to implement that position.

“These herders emanate from the north and we are going to centralise them. We cannot do it overnight. We need billions of naira. This is just one ranch that is costing N10 billion.

“I have 14 grazing reserves in Kaduna State and I will like to turn them into ranches. Do I have 14 times N10 billion? I don’t have,” the governor said.

  • Kaduna Poll: Why PDP defeated APC in my polling unit – El-Rufai

Kaduna Poll: Why PDP defeated APC in my polling unit – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has declared that the All Progressives Congress, APC, did not manipulate the e-voting machines during the just concluded local government election in the state.

El-Rufai said the Peoples Democratic Party’s victory in his polling unit in the local government elections showed that APC did not manipulate the e-voting machines.

The governor, who spoke on Channels Television programme Sunrise Daily on Monday, said the election results show that people are finally making electoral choices based on the performance of their elected officials.

El-Rufai said: “Those that reported that the machines were programmed were ashamed when it was reported that APC lost in my polling unit. People were laughing that I lost my polling unit, but it is democracy that won.

“I’m not on the ballot, so it is not a referendum on me, it is a referendum on the councilor and the performance of the chairman of the local council.

“The loss of my polling unit shows that we did not programme these machines; we did not influence our independent electoral commission, and the whole thing has worked very well.”

  • I’m not interested in 2023 presidency – El-Rufai

    I’m not interested in 2023 presidency – El-Rufai

Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has said on Saturday that he does not have any presidential ambition, contrary to widespread speculations in that regard.

El-Rufai, who claimed to have “suffered presidential ambition suspicion for 15 years”, said at 62, he is too old lead Nigeria.

Making the foregoing clarifications in an interview with the Pidgin Service of the BBC, the Kaduna State governor also explained the reason behind his decision to quietly withdraw his two children from a public school in Kaduna.

He regretted that his purported ambition to become Nigeria’s president had caused some people to paint him in bad light, including calling him a Jihadist, just to keep him out of presidential race.

He said that governing Kaduna State alone was telling on his age, not to talk of the entire country.

He said he considered governing Nigeria as a job that is too much for a 62-year-old man.

He said: “Look at me, look at my grey hair. If you see my picture when I was sworn in, my hair was very black, but look at how it has become.

“This is a very difficult job, and that is just state governor, one state out of 36. A big one, yes; a difficult one, yes, but it is not the same as Nigeria.

“Presidency of Nigeria is a very serious job; it is too much for a 62-year-old.”

Asked if he is interested in the office of the Vice-President, he said: “I have not thought about it at all. I have said it that in the political system we have, after eight years of President Buhari, the presidency should go to the south.

“I have been suffering this presidential ambition suspicion since 2006. I have suffered it for 15 years today, and I am sick and tired of it.

“There are people that are out to paint me in a particular picture so that I will be out of the presidential race, but they don’t know that I am not in any race anywhere.

“They have called me all sorts of names. They said I am a Hausa-Fulani irredentist; I am Jihadist and all that. Jihadist when? Where? I am not even an active member of any Islamic organisation.

“I am Muslim, yes, a devout one. But I believe religion is private. Even here in this office, when it is time for prayer, I just excuse myself as if I am going to the restroom. I don’t ask anyone to come and pray with me, because we will all go into our graves separately.

“Look around me as see; I am surrounded only by Muslims. This government is the only state government in this country that has at least people from 13 other states of the Federation as cabinet members.

“One of the most influential persons in my life, one of my closest political associates is Pastor Tunde Bakare.

“It was Pastor Tunde Bakare that actually introduced me to Buhari and CPC. I didn’t join the CPC because Buhari lives in Kaduna or he is a northerner.

“So, if I am an Islamic Jihadist, why will Pastor Tunde Bakare be speaking to me?”

‘Why I withdrew my son from public school’
El-Rufai also revealed that there was a plan by three groups of bandits to kidnap his son, Abubakar Sadiq, from Kaduna Capital School; a public school where he was enrolled in 2019.

The governor said following the intelligence at his disposal, he had to withdraw the kid from the school so that he would not fall victim to kidnappers or expose his schoolmates to danger in the event of an attack by gunmen.

The governor said he had also enrolled Sadiq’s younger sister, Nasrine, in the same school when she turned six years before the security situation in the state forced the family to withdraw the children temporarily.

The two children are currently taught at home but go to the public school during the examination period.

He said the kids would resume fully once the security situation in the state improves.

His words: “My son and also my daughter are registered in the school because his (Sadiq’s) sister also clocked six and we registered her in the school.

“But we had to temporarily withdraw them for the security of the school because we received a security report that three groups were planning to attack the school and kidnap my son.

“I don’t think they (kidnappers) would have succeeded because there is enough security in the school to prevent them, but it would expose other pupils of the school to danger.

“We didn’t know the kind of weapons they would have brought.

“I had taken a stand against payment of ransom and we had reports that three groups were planning to kidnap my son from Capital School to see whether I would pay ransom or not if my son is kidnapped.”

He said he was persuaded by the advice of security agencies to withdraw the kids for the time being.

“Both Abubakar Sadiq and Nasrine will go back to the school when there is confidence that their attendance will not put the school at risk,” he added.

Abubakar Sadiq was enrolled in the school by the governor in September 2019 in fulfillment of a promise he made in 2017 as a guest of Freedom Radio’s Hausa phone-in programme ‘Barka da War haka.’

During the programme, he pledged to revamp public schools in the state and enroll his child in a public school upon turning six years.

He told reporters moments after enrolling Abubakar Sadiq that it was a commitment that had been fulfilled.

His words: “I made that commitment because I believe that it is only when all political leaders have their children in public schools that we will pay due attention to the quality of public education.

“I went to a public school like this. In fact, the school I went to is not as good as this one, but here I am, because of the quality teaching I got.

“My intention is to ensure that all our public schools offer quality education, and so we are encouraging all our senior public servants to send their children to public schools.

“Once the public schools are improved to a point they are nearly as good as or even better than private schools, no one will waste his money taking his child to private school.”

  • Absence of Sultan, other stakeholders mar kaduna Northwest Governors, traditional, Security meeting

Absence of Sultan, other stakeholders mar kaduna Northwest Governors, traditional, Security meeting

    By Gabriel Udeh, Kaduna

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Sa’ad, other traditional, religious and opinion leaders were conspicuously absent Monday at Arewa House, venue of the NorthWest Governors and traditional rulers town hall meeting with security with the new security chiefs, led by the Defence Chief, General Leo Irabor.
Apparently marred by low turnout, the parley convened to address security challenges in the region had only Emir of Zazzau Ambassador Nuhu Bamali and all the Governors of the NorthWest.

The participants however went into a close door meeting with the military leaders before, addressing the general gathering to convey the decision that the town hall meeting has been rescheduled due to poor turnout of other critical stakeholders.

The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-rufai who addressed the gathering said the new leadership of the military chiefs, is in the State to discussed with stakeholders in the North West zone, on why they should join hands together in putting an end to the insecurity in the region.

According to him, the military leaders have mapped out “a new security architecture that would end the security challenges, adding that it was commendable, “and we are satisfied with this show of commitment”.

El-rufai told the security leaders that they’ve confidence “under your leadership and based on your past record to end the affliction that have affected our families, livelihoods and our nation”.

However, the Governor lamented over why the town hall meeting could not hold as scheduled, saying, “this town hall meeting is not possible to be completed, with the absence of most key stakeholders and because of the short notices”.

“You can see that it is only the Emir of Zazzau that represents all the Emirs and traditional rulers in the North West States here. Each of the traditional and religious leaders in the seven States in the North West are supposed to be here, but they are not”.

“Other stakeholders that are supposed to be here are not here, because they are going round, trying to calm down the very tensed situation we are facing in most parts of North West. This is because of events happening not only in the North, but in other parts of Nigeria”.

Governor El-rufai remarked: ” there are fake video clips circulating the country that have raised tension and agitation. And most of us as Governors have in the last few weeks , going round talking to stakeholders and appealing to religious and Community leaders to calm people down”.

“And many of our traditional leaders are also engaging in that. Not only in our States but in other places. That is why many of them are not here”.

El-rufai argued that the seriousness of the security challenges in the country is the reason “why the NSA and the new service chiefs felt this town hall meeting should be reconvened, in the next week’s or so, and we give people adequate notice, not only to consult with the grassroot, but to be here to consult with local intelligence so that our new security chiefs can plan better”.
The Governor further lamented the havoc caused by armed bandits, saying “even the members of the armed forces are loosing their lives daily”.

“The bandits are becoming bolder, they even have the ordersity now to attack security tanks, ambush those on patrol, and lives are being lost”.
“We need to support our military and police so that we out this problem behind us”, he added.
Meanwhile, speaking at the occasion, the National Security Adviser (NSA), General Babagana Mongunu, said that gave reason for the prolong security challenges in the country, pointing out that “the nature of the 21st century warfare is complex.

” That is why we need a multifaceted approach in dealing with the current security challenges”, he noted.

Mongunu said: “I don’t want to believe some pessimists that we are not trying to end the insecurity. President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to bring an end to the insecurity in our country and that is what we are doing”.

Among those who were present at the Arewa meeting was a prominent Northern cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.

It was also learnt that Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who was in the meeting for the first after his rift with el-Rufai over romance of later with the deposed Emir Sunusi Lamido Sanusi Il, forced them to held the meeting at arewa house and later moved to government kaduna.

Kaduna Civil Servants Resume Work After Three Months Lockdown

Civil servants in Kaduna State resumed work on Monday after three months lockdown imposed by the state government as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main gate of the state secretariat which had been shut following the closure of the complex since March 26, was reopened for activities today.

During a visit to some offices, Channels Television observed that most senior workers came to work in compliance with the gradual ease of lockdown by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

El-Rufai had last month approved a phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures with the reopening of places of worship, hotels and some other private businesses.

This development comes two days after a circular from the Office of the Head of Service directed senior civil servants to work from Mondays to Fridays.

While it concerns senior civil servants within the ranks of permanent secretaries and Chief executives of agencies and parastatals, other officers on grade level 14 and above are expected to come to work three times in a week.

Meanwhile, schools and markets remain shut with others expected to resume in due course.
