    Gunmen Abduct Senior Police officer in Ilorin

    An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abdulmumini Yusuf, serving at the Area Command in Ilorin, has reportedly been kidnapped by suspected gunmen.

    The state Commissioner of Police, CP Paul Odama, confirmed the development on Thursday in Ilorin.

    “Yes, it’s true, but we are still on it,” Mr Odama said.

    Spokesman of the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement, also said the command was working to rescue the officer.

    Mr Ajayi said the motive of the abduction was still sketchy.

    “The incident, as serious as it is, has not diminished the resolve of the command to protect lives and property of the citizens,” Mr Ajayi said.

    The incident occurred Tuesday night while the police officer was about to enter his house in the Ogidi area, Ilorin.

    A resident of Ogidi community, Jamiu Abdulganiy, said the development has thrown the community into apprehension, wondering why the officer could be kidnapped.

    Lucky Okechukwu, a youth leader of the All Progressives Congress in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State has been killed by gunmen.

    Punch reported that Okechukwu was shot dead on Saturday night, October 8, in the Unadu area of the town.

    A chieftain of the party who confirmed the incident said;

    “Yes, it is true. I don’t know his real name but we received information that he was shot dead by gunmen last night. If the party want to speak on the incident, it will definitely be going to issue a statement on that.”

    Gunmen Attack Military Checkpoint in Enugu

    Two persons are feared dead after unknown gunmen attacked an Army Checkpoint at Obeagu-Amodu road in Enugu South local government area of Enugu State on Tuesday, September 27.

    Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the area in two Lexus SUVs and one Toyota Sienna bus around 7:25 am. They reportedly opened fire at the combined team of Police and military.

    Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, told TheCable that the policemen were attacked during a “stop and search duty”.

    He said the police are on the trail of the gunmen but that details of the incident are still “sketchy”.

    “There was an attack on policemen on stop and search duty this morning, along Agbani Road, close to Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway, by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums,” Nduka said.

    “However, details of the incident are still sketchy, while command’s tactical/operational operatives have been mobilised and are on the trail of the miscreants. Further developments will be communicated.”

    Gunmen Attack Ifeanyi Ubah’s Convoy, Several Aides Killed

    The convoy of the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, has been attacked at Enugwukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. 

    According to eyewitnesses, the convoy was ambushed by heavily armed men who opened fire on his convoy from all directions.

    Some of his aides were killed including some police officers.

    The Senator is said to have managed to escape but his bulletproof car was riddled with bullets.

    Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Echeng Echeng, has already led operatives to the scene at Nkwo market, Enugwukwu.

    In a statement issued on Sunday night, he said though the details of the incident are still sketchy, operatives are on ground there to monitor the situation.

    He said the police would communicate further details as things unfold, adding that the Police remained committed to getting to the root of the matter.

    One of the Senator’s aides who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the attack was an assassination attempt but the Senator was able to escape because of his vehicle was bulletproof.

    The aid said Senator Ubah and his convoy were passing Nkwo Enugwukwu junction when they were shot at from all sides by the attackers.

    A special aide to the Senator, as well as five policemen were reportedly killed. Senator Ubah is said to be in an undisclosed hospital where he is being monitored by doctors even though he was not physically hurt.

    Enugu: Unknown gunmen kill three policemen, two others

    Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have reportedly killed five persons including three policemen and kidnapped another in Enugu State.

    The two other persons were reported to be civilians.

    The incident happened at New Haven area of the Enugu North Local Government Area of the state capital on Wednesday night.

    Sources told our correspondent on Thursday, that the attack occurred around 10:30 pm in front of St. Francis Supermarket at Block Bus stop.

    The gunmen who were believed to be armed robbers were reported to have stormed the area and engaged the policemen on stop-and-search duty in a gun duel.

    “Unfortunately, three policemen were overpowered and shot dead. The hoodlums also took away their guns and abducted one person,” one of the sources said.

    Another source said that two civilians caught during the gun duel were also among the people killed, while the hoodlums reportedly abducted one man.

    However, unconfirmed report has it that the two civilians that were reportedly killed were gunmen that succumbed to the police gunfire.

    A security alert sent out by nearby residents read: “It happened at block bus stop in front of frank supermarket.

    “Three policemen down already. Guys for our information, incase we still dey outside avoid new Haven.

    “Two battered police men are still lying lifeless here.”

    The message was accompanied by a video which showed the dead policemen inside the gutter.

    Meanwhile, efforts to get reaction of the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccesful as he could not be reached as phone indicated switched off.

    Insecurity: Unknown Gunmen In Military Comouflage Again Attack Bassa In Kogi

    Barely Few Months of Normalcy In Bassa, another phase of communal clashes has erupted as unknown gunmen in Military comouflage Attack Sheria Communities in Bassa local government killing people.

    The sleepy town of Sheria in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State allegedly came under heavy gun fire in the early hours of Tuesday, 30 August 2022.

    According to the locals, the attackers disguised in military camouflage entered Sheria  through Biroko axis and started shooting sporadically and burning houses.

      The report further indicates that most of the shops by the road side in sheria were burnt. The number of human casualties is yet to be ascertained.

      Recalled that in the last months   there has been renewed hostilities between the Igburra Mozum and Bassas in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

    When contacted, the Police command public relations officer, SP. William Aya ,said calm has returned, adding that special forces and regular policemen from Anyigba and other sister security forces have been mobilised to keep peace in the area.

    He, however, could not give details of the casualty, saying investigation into the incidence has commenced.

    Unknown gunmen have killed an army officer identified as Major Churchill Orji, in Anambra State.

    It was gathered the soldier was killed on Saturday, August 20, while in an operation in the troubled Azia axis, inIhiala Local Government Area of the state.

    A schoolmate of the deceased, Leonard Edu, confirmed the development to the Nigerian Tribune.

    “He was my senior in Agulu Boys Secondary School. Our labour is perfect then. It’s true he was killed by gunmen at Azia, in Ihiala LGA,” Edu said.

    In a tribute on Sunday, one Ugochukwu Afoekelu, wrote; “Our brother Major Churchill Orji, you paid the price defending our dear State from bandits and unknown gunmen yesterday at Azia/Ukpor. Your efforts shall never be in vain. Agulu mourns.”

    Another friend wrote; Rest in peace my brother from Nneogidi village, Agulu, Major Churchill Orji killed yesterday at Azia/Ukpor defending the South-East from the marauders.”

    Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, when contacted on the telephone, said he was yet to receive a report about the incident.

    Suspected gunmen on Sunday invaded Orie market at Agbedo-Akpanya community in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi, killing one person and abducted others during the incident.

    Our Correspondent gathered that the suspected hoodlums in their large numbers stormed the market on Sunday at 2 pm and started shooting sporadically to scare the people in the market.

    The shooting by bandits , it was learnt caused pandemonium in the market and people were running for safety as one Johnson was hit by the bullets and died, while another person was abducted immediately to unknown place.

    Sources hinted that the suspected gunmen have demanded for ransom of N20 for the release of the abducted person.

    It was reliably gathered that the the incident was third time in a row when suspected gunmen attacked the market and abducted people and later demanded for ransom.

    Investigations further revealed that the suspected hoodlums are taking advantage of thick forest between Akpanya in Kogi State and the boundary of Enugu and State to perpetrate their evil acts .

    Sources further revealed that the people of Agbedo community in Akpanya have continued to Appeal to the State government and security agencies in the state to come to their aid from the incessant attacks on the defenceless people on market days in the area.

    When contacted for confirmation , the Kogi State Police Public Relations officer , William Aya said that it was a case of invasion on One Johnson’s shop after being killed, one Edwin was abducted along with many others on that market day

    Four Nigerian Police Officers were killed on Friday night, August 5, when unknown gunmen attacked the Agwa Divisional Police headquarters in Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State.

    The assailants invaded the area shooting sporadically before gaining access into the station.

    According to a police source, the incident has triggered tension in the entire local government.

    He said the gunmen burnt some vehicles in the station and destroyed other valuable items.

    “There was an attack in the station and we learnt that about four officers were killed. The total damage cannot be ascertained at the moment,” he said.

    Gunmen Abduct 3 Children In Kogi, Demand N100m Ransom

    Gunmen have kidnapped three underage children in Ajaokuta Local Government area of Kogi State. They are demanding a N100m ransom.

    The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Command William Ayah confirmed the abduction on Friday.

    In a statement, he said the Commissioner of Police in the state Edward Ebuka has deployed operatives of various police anti-kidnapping units in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters to trail the kidnappers in order to rescue the children and bring the perpetrators to book.

    The three children whose ages ranged from three, five, and ten years were on Wednesday evening around eight o’clock kidnapped at their resident, Kaduna Estate Ajaokuta Steel Township complex, by yet-to-be-identified gunmen

    Eyewitness reports revealed that the kidnappers who were fully armed with guns shot sporadically to scare residents away before they abducted the children.

    A family member who wants anonymity disclosed that the gunmen on Thursday morning contacted the family and demanded N100m as ransom.

    The incident is coming days after gunmen killed three policemen and five vigilantes at Jida-Bassa also in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

    But, as part of measures to curb the incessant security challenges in Kogi State, the state governor Yahaya Bello ordered the closure of all brothels and banned the use of facemasks in public places for proper identification.
