    BREAKING: Hoodlums free 1,844 inmates, Burn Facility in Imo Prison

    No fewer than 1,844 inmates escaped on Monday morning in Owerri, the Imo State capital when suspected hoodlums attacked the Correctional Facility near the State Government House.

    The hoodlums also attacked the Imo Police command headquarters where they freed another 600 suspects in custody.

    They set the police headquarters ablaze with dozens of vehicles burnt in the process.

    According to sources, the attack started around 1.30 am and ended around 3.30am without any resistance.

    Reports had it that the hoodlums converged in front of the Imo State Government House, circling the roundabout and chanting solidarity songs for about 30 minutes before setting out to attack the Police Command Headquarters.

    They were said to have shot heavily as they approached the Command headquarters and launched attack on the State Criminal Investigative Department (CID) as well as the former SARS.

    Officers on duty reportedly ran away as the hoodlums released every suspect in detention.

    The only unit the hoodlums did not attack, The Nation gathered, is the anti-kidnapping unit located some meters away inside the police barracks at Shell Camp.

    Sources said the hoodlums were heard telling the detainees and prisoners “you’ve been released because Jesus Christ is risen from the death today”.

    After releasing the detainees, it was learnt, the hoodlums also bombed the building, setting dozens of vehicles within the Police Command ablaze.

    After they operated unchallenged, it was further learnt the hoodlums moved over to the Owerri Correctional Centre, which they forced open with dynamites, freeing over 2000 prisoners.

    A source told The Nation: “Out of the more than 2,000 prisoners we have here, only eleven refused to run away with others.

    “I want to tell you that since I was born, I have never seen nor heard these kind gunshots that I heard early this morning.

    “Our happiness here is that there is no casualty. Those who have gunshot wounds are receiving treatments in the hospital.’’

    Spokesmen of the Imo Police command, Orlando Ikeokwu and Owerri Correctional Centre, Mr. Madunagu, refused to answer calls.

    Hoodlums attack APC registration centre, kill ward chairman in Benue

    The Police Command in Benue State has confirmed the murder of Mr Tersoo Ahu, the Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Gboko South, Gboko Local Government Area by suspected hoodlums.

    The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident on Sunday in Makurdi.

    Anene said that preliminary investigation revealed that suspected hoodlums allegedly from a faction of the party in the council ward carried out the attack at the party’s registration and revalidation training centre.

    She said that the deceased and other party members were at the venue of the training for the registration and revalidation exercise when the hoodlums arrived.

    According to the PPRO, the chairman was hit on the head with a wood by the hoodlums, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

    “The youth, who claimed to be a faction within the party, mobilised and attacked the deceased on others where they were conducting training for ward and polling unit officers for the party’s registration and revalidation exercise.

    “They claimed it was not the venue that they had agreed for the training of the officers.

    “They came violently with stones, wood, and started throwing stones; one of them hit the chairman with a wood and he fell down.

    “He was rushed to the hospital where he died,” she added.

    Anene further disclosed that several other people sustained various degrees of injury during the attack.

    She said that the attackers would be arrested prosecuted.

    Hoodlums Clash With Amotekun In Ibadan. Five Killed, Houses Burnt

    Five youths who were keeping vigil in the Labiran area of Ibadan were shot dead during a clash between the operatives of the Oyo State Security network, codenamed Amotekun, and hoodlums on Friday evening.

    Labiran has been troubled by some hoodlums in the last few days, necessitating youths to keep vigil to avert robbery.

    On Thursday night, over 200 houses were razed while hoodlums killed a young man in the area.

    One of the youths in the area, who simply identified himself as Wale, said following the burning and looting of properties in the area, elders in the community invited youth to stay awake to avert a recurrence.

    “It is true; they killed four of our friends. Their families have taken them for burial this morning. Our fathers invited us to keep vigil. When we heard that those miscreants were coming, one of our brothers invited the operatives of Amotekun to help us.

    “On arrival, they started shooting sporadically while hoodlums were also shooting. As a result, Monsuru, Ridwan and two other people were killed.

    “They have taken their corpses for burial. Those hoodlums later came back to our area around 5 am. As we speak, they are burning houses again. Smoke is everywhere. Many have fled our area now. We need help,” he said.

    The Oyo State Police Command has said it received a report that hoodlums loaded in a bus and taxi came to set ablaze the house of Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Igboho.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, said this in a statement on Tuesday.

    Fadeyi also said the police were told that the arsonists shot in the air several times as they put fire to the house located at the Soka area of Ibadan.

    He said the police had begun an investigation into the incident.

    The house was said to have been burnt at around 3 am on Tuesday after the power supply to the area was cut off.

    The police statement read, “At about 0620 hrs of today 26/01/2021, a report was received at the Santo Police Station that some unidentified hoodlums came to Sunday Igboho’s house at Soka area of Ibadan in a Hummer bus and Micra ( taxi) firing sporadically, and set the house ablaze.

    “The mini sitting room got burnt in the process while the value of other properties is yet to be estimated.

    “Immediately the DPO Sanyo got wind of the incident, he contacted fire service while he also went to the scene for on the spot assessment.

    “The fire was eventually put out. An investigation has commenced into the incident while the Police are on the trail of the hoodlums.”

    Hoodlums shot dead a Mobile policeman in Delta

    A mobile policeman was shot dead in Effurun, Uvwie council area of Delta state, on Friday afternoon

    His rifle was also carted away by the arms-wielding hoodlums.

    We learnt that the incident occurred at about 2:30p.m along the popular Jakpa Road.

    Details surrounding the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report.

    It was gathered that the deceased officer was detailed to an unidentified man who had stopped by a shop along the road to purchase some items.

    The hoodlums were said to have zoomed to the spot in a vehicle, shot him multiple times and made certain that he was dead before, driving away with his gun.

    At least five mobile policemen have been killed and their arms carted away within the past two months, in the state.

    When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, but could not give details about the deceased officer.

    “It is true. I don’t have any information but the truth I that a mobile policeman was killed along Jakpa Road. But his details, where he is attached to, I don’t have for now,” the PPRO said.

    JUST IN: Suspected Hoodlums invade Ogun Assembly, steals mace

    Suspected hoodlums on Thursday invades office of the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, and carted away the mace.

    Our correspondent gathered that the yet-to-be-identified hoodlums broke into the speaker’s office overnight and stole the official symbol of the legislature.

    When our correspondent visited the assembly building which is located a few metres away from the Governor’s Office complex in the precinct of the State Secretariat, Oke – Mosan, Abeokuta, some security agents denied access into the complex, citing orders from above.

    When contacted, the spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

    He said the coat of the arm has been recovered but the stick is still missing.

    The PPRO added that an investigation into the burglary and theft has commenced.

    Oyeyemi said, “Yes, there is an unfortunate incident today in the assembly complex. The hoodlums broke into the assembly through the ceiling and removed the official mace of the house. That is why the Commissioner of Police has to go there for an on-the-spot assessment.”

    When asked how it was recovered, the PPRO declined comments.

    “The details will be disclosed after the entire mace is recovered,” he added.

    Explosion has rocked a church belonging to father of Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

    It was learnt that hoodlums numbering about five sneaked into the Christian Universal Church International on 25 Azikiwe Street Mile, 3 Diobu, on Saturday night and detonated the explosives suspected to be dynamite.

    It was gathered a significant part of the church was damaged by the explosion, which created panic in the area.

    Though no group had claimed responsibility for the dastardly act, two of the miscreants were said to have been apprehended by a vigilant group and handed over to the police.

    The operatives of Eagle crack, an outfit of the state police command, Mopol 19 and other security agencies were said to have cordoned off the area…

    Some hoodlums on Tuesday morning broke into the Orientation Camp of the National Youth Corps in Kubwa, Abuja.

    The thugs armed with knives and other sharp objects blocked the road and ordered motorists to turn back.

    They were seen coming out of the premises with mattresses, plastic chairs and other items.

    Residents in the neighbourhood also took advantage of the unrest to participate in the looting.

    Hoodlums invade Bauchi govt warehouse, meet it empty

    Motivated by happenings in other parts of the country where COVID-19 palliatives were discovered unshared, some youths in Bauchi on Sunday invaded the state government warehouse but were left disappointed as there were no palliatives in the store.

    Reports had it that the youths went to a warehouse located in the premises of the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Project (BSADP) in the state capital to loot palliatives believed to have been kept there.

    The state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, confirmed the invasion of the warehouse by the youth in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, @SenBalaMohammed.

    According to the governor, his Chief of Staff opened the warehouse for the hoodlums as soon as they arrived and they discovered it was empty.

    He added his administration had long distributed the COVID-19 palliatives to the people of the state through a high power committee, which included himself, his deputy, chairmen of all political parties in the state and traditional rulers.

    According to him, his administration’s core mandate was to give Bauchi State citizens a better prospect and excellent opportunity for a prosperous life.

    “Today, hoodlums attempted a raid on the #COVID19 palliative warehouse in Bauchi State. My Chief of Staff was informed and he ordered the warehouse to be opened.

    “They looked in and saw it was empty, and they turned back. And that’s because we shared everything to beneficiaries as at when due.

    “For accountability, when we started distribution months ago, I ensured to set up a high-powered committee that included myself, my deputy, the state PDP Chairman and Chairmen of all political parties in the state, including traditional rulers, and others.

    “The core of my mandate remains the crucial drive to give Bauchi State citizens a better prospect and more excellent opportunity for a prosperous life. We are doing this, and we will continue to do more. #GreaterBauchi,” Governor Mohammed tweeted on Sunday.

    Incidences of invasion have been witnessed in Lagos, Osun, Plateau, Kwara, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa and many more states. Both public and private facilities have also been attacked by criminals in search of palliatives.

    Hoodlums attacked and looted the house of a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, located near Jos University Teaching Hospital.

    Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums defied the ongoing curfew imposed by the state government to also invade other buildings in search of COVID-19 palliatives.

    An eyewitness told revealed that Dogara’s house was attacked about 9 am, on Sunday 25-10-2020

    Policemen and other security operatives enforcing the curfew shot to disperse the rampaging youths without success.

    “They broke into the house of the former Speaker and attacked everyone, including Dogara’s brother, and (they) are currently moving anything they see. In the process, the invaders moved several items – tricycles, furniture, electronics, and other valuables – out of the house,” an eyewitness revealed.
