  • Huawei, partners organize job fair for Nigerian youths

    As part of its talent cultivation strategy, Huawei Technologies (Nigeria) Limited is set to host a job fair for Nigerian youths.
    The job fair, scheduled to hold on the 3rd of August, 2022 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja is intended to attract, qualified candidates for job opportunities in IP technologies, Information Technologies, Channel management, Programming, Data Engineering, Account Management, Delivery Management, Procurement, Channel Sales and others.
    This will afford candidates the opportunity to listen and connect to prospective employers. Recruiters would be looking out for Huawei certified applicants, experienced applicants, Interns and graduate trainees. The company says this is also open to NYSC members needing a place of primary assignment.
    Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy and most populated country with great potentials for development, especially in ICT. The ICT sector is crucial to it’s national growth, a strong tool for sustainable development, increasing productivity and Economic expansion.

    The Job Fair is an important part of the Huawei talent ecosystem development strategy which aims at developing talents, promoting a favorable business environment and strengthening partnership within the industry.

This is done through different initiatives, one of which is the Huawei ICT Academy which has partnered with over 100 educational institutions in Nigeria, including Ahmadu Bello University, University of Port Harcourt, University of Ibadan, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and other renowned institutions.

    U.S. warns world telecom industry against Huawei

    The U.S. on Wednesday warned telecom companies around the world against doing business with the embattled Chinese technology giant, Huawei.

    The Department of State in a statement, said those doing business with the firm should consider themselves fraternising with “human rights abusers”.

    “Telecommunications companies around the world should consider themselves on notice.

    “If they are doing business with Huawei, they are doing business with human rights abusers,” the statement said.

    It announced visa restrictions on some employees of Hauwei and other unidentified Chinese tech firms for allegedly facilitating human right violations.

    It alleged that certain Huawei employees “provide material support” to the Chinese government “that commits human rights abuses”.

    The administration of President Donald Trump has been pressuring allies to cut Huawei off their 5G networks over cyber security concerns.

    Trump accuses the Chinese government of using the company to conduct cyber espionage, an accusation Huawei denied.

    In 2019, the U.S. government threatened to severe intelligence sharing ties with allies that patronise Huawei 5G products.

    Wednesday’s visa restriction announcement came barely 24 hours after the United Kingdom banned the company from its 5G networks.

    Welcoming the ban, Pompeo said the UK had joined “a growing list of countries from around the world that are standing up for their national security”.

    In June, Pompeo declared that “the tide is turning against Huawei as citizens around the world are waking up to the danger of the Chinese Communist Party’s surveillance state.” (NAN)

    Huawei trains 10,000 Nigerian students on cloud computing, digital skills

    Leading ICT company, Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited says it has trained over 10,000 Nigerian students in cloud computing and big data.

    The company also disclosed that it invested heavily in improving the digital skills and talents of Nigerians and trained more than 20,000 ICT engineers managing main telecommunications network operations.

    Also, Huawei announced that , 2,000 Nigerian youths and 1,000 federal civil servants had been trained by the company in various Information and Communication Technology skills.

    The company said it was on this basis that it was given the Telecoms Company of the Year 2019 Award by Leadership newspaper in Abuja last week.

    Commenting on the award, Mr. Kelvin Yangyang, the deputy managing director and head of public relations, Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited, stated that: “Huawei is happy to be recognized for its contributions to the growth of the Nigerian ICT industry.

    “In over two decades ago since Huawei began business operations in Nigeria, we have collaborated with the government, operators and other partners to ensure every Nigerian enjoys quality access to telephony and internet coverage across the nation – In rural and urban areas.

    “Huawei is committed to do more. We will continuously support and contribute to digital inclusion in Nigeria by making technology accessible for all”.
