Ita Enang accuses AKSG of sabotaging work on Calabar/Itu highway

Former Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly matters, Senator Ita Enang has accused Akwa Ibom state government of instigating communities to halt construction work on the dualization of Calabar/Itu federal highway.

He has also said that at least N695 million has been paid as compensation to property owners on a section of the road awarded to Juluis Berger PLC.

Enang told newsmen while inspecting the road last weekend that construction work has stalled on some sections of the road because of hostility from communities over non payment of compensation and accused agents of the state government of sponsoring traditional rulers and community leaders against the Federal Government.

He explained that part of the highway where compensation was not incorporated in their contract was the section awarded to CCECC under the FG Tax Credit Scheme while compensation on the section awarded to Julius Berger directly by the FG has been fully paid.

“At the instance of Governor Udom Emmanuel, he asked the Paramount Rulers and other traditional rulers to instigate the communities not to allow the road to be done.

“We had asked the state government to help pay compensation to that area awarded by NNPC as part of their contribution to the realization of that road and since all the buildings were approved by your state government please pay compensation while we do the road.

“But because it is a PDP led state, they don’t want me FGnto have credit for the road because the FG is APC and not just that they are also instigating the communities.

“The traditional rulers who are speaking against the FG on this road are simply agents of Akwa Ibom State Governorment frustrating this project but I will not join words with them because they are who they are and because I am a titled chief but I will take steps to ensure that the compensation is paid.” He explained.

Enang pointed out that communities in Cross River State have ensured a smooth construction of their own part of the road without being hostile to the construction companies because the Cross River government, being that of APC has been able to dialogue with the communities.

He said that he has commenced discussion with the Niger Delta Development Commission to see how they could fund payment of compensation on sections of the road where compensation was not incorporated into their contract

Ibiono Ibom APC debunks expulsion of Ita Enang

    By Odo Ogenyi, Uyo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibiono Ibom Local Council of Akwa Ibom have debunked the purported expulsion of Sen Ita Enang from the party describing it as an insult.

This followed a letter  from the state chairman of the party Mr Stephen Ntukekpo on Wednesday announcing the expulsion of the former Presidential Adviser over a petition against him by some members of the party.

Chapter Chairman, Mr Umoh Ekop, told a press conference in Uyo on Thursday on behalf of the chapter executive council and elders of the party that those behind the purported letter of expulsion were aliens to APC even as Enang did not commit any offence that should warrant an expulsion.

“Ordinarily, we would have allowed the said publication, knowing that the said publication is meaningless and does not have the weight capacity of distracting the party nor the Distinguish Senator Ita Enang, who is the backbone of the part at the Local Government  Area and State government levels.

“For the sake of the public, who may be misled to believe this lies from the pit of hell, we want to put the record straight, that Senator Ita Enang is still a member of All Progressives Congress, Eastern Ward 2, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

“We have not received any news or petition from the Ward Chairman of Eastern Ward 2 against Senator Ita Enang at any time.

“Senator Ita Enang is the only light and voice of the party at the local level as well as the known voice in Akwa Ibom State that has always been speaking for the party.” Ekop explained.

Ekop added that the former presidential aide has been a very dedicated, committed, and sincere member of APC who has been querying the opposition on the issues of transparency with public funds in the state.

He urged those behind the publication to tender an unreserved apology to Enang within 72 hours adding that the entire members of APC in Ibiono Ibom have passed a vote of confidence on Enang as a true party man.

Meanwhile, Enang in a press statement earlier issued described the expulsion as fake news and should be discarded urging party leaders and members to ignore the publication and continue working with him for the interest of the party.

“I have just seen one fake news on the social media on my leadership and status in Akwa Ibom State APC.

“I urge all Leaders and teeming members of our great party to please ignore same and continue working with me and all other party Leaders and members of the party for the success of the Party in all the elections.

“I urge our members to please cooperate and work together to receive our President, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari and our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency,  Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Senator Shettima and all our Party National Leaders in the State APC Presidential Rally coming up on January 30 at Uyo.

“We should please focus on mobilising for the rally and not be distracted by irrelevancies.” Enang said.
