    One killed in Jigawa APC-PDP clash

    One person died and five others were arrested after a violent clash erupted between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress in Jigawa State.

    The incident happened on Friday when the PDP was conducting a governorship rally in Maigatari Local Government Area. As they arrived at the APC Secretariat, tensions rose and a clash broke out.

    According to a police statement, the victim, Abdullahi Isiyaku, a 37-year-old man, from Gangare Quarters in Maigatari town, was attacked by members of the PDP’s ‘Santuraki Vanguard’.

    He was rushed to the Gumel General Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.

    A discreet investigation is underway at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, the statement added.

    The Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, DSP Lawan Adam, stated that the situation was under control and the police were working to ensure that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

    The incident has raised concerns about the security of citizens and the potential for further political tensions in the state.

    The authorities are urging all political parties to refrain from using violence and to encourage their supporters to act peacefully.

    The Jigawa state Chairman of the All Farmers Association (AFAN) Alhaji Idris Yau Mai Unguwa Jaga described Malam Umar Namadi Dan Modi as a trusted person who is ready to actualize contuinity in the state without bias.

    He made this known in a chat with journalists during a campaign rally, where he added that Dan Modi is a leader with zeal and determination for the rapid transformation of Jigawa state through viable contuinity if elected as the Governor in the forthcoming general elections.

    Mai Unguwa Jaga lamented that ” from what is going on in our electioneering campaigns across Jigawa state, his Excellency Malam Umar Namadi would win the polls with wide margin because of the real support he always enjoys whenever we are campaigning “

    The AFAN leader commended the executive governor of Jigawa state, His Excellency Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for changing the face of Jigawa state to an exemplary domain and in every sector without bias.

    ASUU: Jigawa Branch Protest Against Casualization of Academic Staff

    The Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State branch of the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) has vehemently kicked against the casualization of academic staff of Nigerian Universities.

    The ASUU Chairman of the FUD branch, Dr. Bashir Yusuf disclosed this during the protest, noting that the action is against all conventional laws, international labor laws, and civil service rules.

    Dr. Bashir Yusuf explained that academic staff are full-time workers whose nature of work is with some peculiarities that make them not 8am to 4pm civil servants.

    According to him, University lecturing is an all-time job that covers class teaching, research, and community service, he said “we cannot be paid on pro-rata or even half our salaries based on a legal strike even after it was suspended.

    The ASUU FUD branch, therefore, condemned and rejected the casualization of academic work and call on the federal government to pay their full salaries and allowances.

    The FUD academic lecturers staged a match from the student center to the senate building of the university.

    The lecturers are calling for the students and lecturers’ right to study in a conducive atmosphere of learning across Nigerian universities.

    The recent unveiling of 12 points agenda by the Jigawa state gubernatorial candidate, Malam Umar Namadi Dan Modi would lead his administration towards an exemplary state with global recognition.

    This was stated by the Jigawa state AFAN chairman, Idris Yau Mai Unguwa shortly after presenting the agendas to the APC stakeholders in the state, adding that Dan Modi’s 12 points agenda would enable his government to serve an inclusive leadership without bias.

    Mai Unguwa lamented that contuinity is the best alternative in a democratic process of governance, that is why all the well meaning citizens of Jigawa state are in full supports for Malam Umar Namadi to succeed his Excellency Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.

    The AFAN leader reiterated that ” credible leadership is the pillar of best governance that would be enjoyed by the people, therefore I call on all the Jigawa state electorates to vote Malam Umar Namadi in the forthcoming 2023 general elections for more democratic devidends”.

    FG distributes 12,000 Metric Tonnes of Food Items to Flood victims in Anambra, Jigawa, others

    The Federal Government has began distribution of 12,000 Metric Tonnes of food and non food items to Anambra, Jigawa and other states devastated by the recent floods .

    The Anambra state government took delivery of some non food items including 7,350 nylon mats, 1,000 treated mosquito nets, 600 cartons of bathing soap, 2,500 pieces of guinea brocade (5 yards each), 1,000 pieces of brand new children’s wears, 1,000 brand new women’s wears and 1,000 pieces of men’s wears.

    The state will also receive 1,400 bags of 10kg rice, 1,400 bags of 10kg beans, 1,400 bags of 10kg maize, 75 bags of salt (20kg), 75 kegs of vegetable oil (20ltrs), 100 cartons of seasoning and 75 cartons of tin tomatoes (50 sachets per carton).

    The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq announced this at in Abuja during the 2022 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction event.

    The Minister who was represented by the Director Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Ali Grema said that efforts were being stepped up to address the challenges of flooding in the country.

    “You are all aware of the widespread floods that have been ravaging many States, Local Governments and Communities in Nigeria. The scale of devastation of the present flood situation in the country can only be compared to the 2012 floods.
    More than 500 lives have been lost, more than 1.4M persons affected, about 90,000 homes either partially or completely destroyed and still counting. Also destroyed are thousands of hectares of farmland which has worsened fears of a disruption of food supply in Africa’s most populous country. These widespread cases are in 27 out of 36 States and the FCT.

    “As we reflect on the present flood situation in Nigeria, let us consider the focus of the 2022 Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction IDDRR.
    The minister noted that although government gave early warnings disasters are local Communities must take climate predictions and flood outlook warnings seriously.
    We can not outrightly eliminate flood but we can keep people safe. That responsibility is collectively ours,” she added.

    Farouq stated that the Ministry and all relevant stakeholders are working on implementing the National Flood Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan that was recently approved by the Federal Executive Council.

    “The plan stipulates specific roles and actions for all States and Local Governments as well as households, communities and pressure groups. The Ministry considers the importance of preventing deaths and loss of lives in a disaster that is predicted and occurs every year”.

    Furthermore, the Director General of NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed also assured that the delivery of relief materials to other states has commenced to provide succor to persons affected by floods across the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT),

    Ahmed said that the distribution of assorted food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari to be distributed across the states to vulnerable Nigerians.

    “NEMA has already delivered relief materials to many states and presented to the various State Governments for onward distribution to the flood victims. We want to assure other states yet to receive the relief items that delivery will soon be completed in their states by this weekend. Efforts are being made to address challenges encountered while moving the items due to the condition of the roads that were covered by flood.

    “The scale of the flood disaster across the country is colossal. While over 500 lives have been lost, several homes and farmlands have been destroyed and a large number of persons displaced in some of the disaster hotspots, NEMA said .

    Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Diaster Management and Social Development Earlier during a courtesy visit to Develoment, Sadiya Farouq has distributex relief items comprising foods , non food items and building materials to victims of the recent flood disaster which occured in the state.

    Farouq paid a condolence visit to Governor Abubakar over the recent flood that washed away buildings and farmlands of the people.

    She said, “It is with deep sense of sympathy that I’m here to convey the sympathy of the federal government to the good people of Jigawa state over the recent flood disaster in Hadejia, Kirikisama, Kafin Hausa (Bulangu) Birniwa, Kaugama and Mallam Madori local government areas of Jigawa state.”

    “The incident is particularly sad because it has become perennial with attendant wide scale destruction of houses, schools, farms, property and means of livelihoods of thousands of persons.
    “Let me seek your support to forestall the next round of flooding and ensure that it comes with minimal impact. ”

    The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, on behalf of the ministry distributed relief items including bags if rice , maize , vegetable oil, bags of beans, roofing sheets, cement ,blankets among others.

    “The relief items are meant to complement the efforts of the Jigawa State Government in providing immediate succor to the affected persons and facilitate speedy rehabilitation”, Umar Farouq stated.

    The Jigawa state Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has has disclosed that the State has witnessed an increment in its Gross Domestic Product ,GDP, following a boost in business activities as a result of the Federal Government National Social Investment Programs intervention.

    Abubakar made this known at the ManPower Development Institute, Dutse on Thursday, at the flag-off of the Cash Grant for Vulnerable Groups , the On-Boarding of Independent Monitors and launch of Digitized Payment for Conditional Cash Transfer.

    The Governor commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the various Social Investment Programmes which have impacted the poor and vulnerable in the state and have also skyrocketed the state’s GDP from N1 trillion in 2015 to N2.25 trillion in 2020.

    Governor Abubakar said that the National Social investment programmes were life changing opportunities to the people of Jigawa state and promised to assist in monitoring and evaluating the programme to fully harness its potentials.

    “We have 25,987 N-Power beneficiaries over the three batches while 167,657 households enjoy the Conditional Cash Transfer of N5,000 monthly or N10,000 every two months. We are feeding 935,000 in our primary schools and because of your contributions to the school feeding programme, we are also feeding primaries 4-6. Jigawa state government is adding a little to make it possible for all the primary school pupils in Jigawa to be fed.

    “We have 9, 673 cooks gainfully employed and about 5,000 of our indigenes will get N20,000 as Cash grants for Vulnerable persons. No wonder, the cumulative effects of what the federal government is doing with the anchor borrowers and President Muhammadu Buhari’s call to go back to farming has doubled our GDP from N1 trillion in 2015 to N2.25tr in 2020.

    We have seen a dramatic increase in wealth in our own state, courtesy of these Social Investment Programmes that you are churning out and the Programmes that President Muhammadu Buhari has brought to our door steps including farming activities. We have never had it this good and we are grateful to the federal government, the Governor attested.

    While flagging off the programmes, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq announced that 4,537 beneficiaries in the state will receive a one-off cash grant of N20,000 .

    “Our target in Jigawa State is to disburse the grant to 4,537 beneficiaries across the 27 Local Government Areas and to the poor and vulnerable category across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Using this grant, many of the beneficiaries will improve their productivity and their commercial activity, all of which will help in easing them out of poverty.

    “The launch of the Digitized payment exercise is to create room for reliable, transparent and accessible database for seamless disbursement to beneficiaries of the Conditional Cash Transfer”.
    Minister Umar Farouq charged the beneficiaries to invest the grant in petty businesses which will yield dividends over time.
    She also onboarded 80 Independent Monitors who will receive N30,000 monthly.

    Buhari Approves Cash Grants to 5,000 Vulnerable Persons in Jigawa

    President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday approved a cash distribution to 5,000 vulnerable persons in Jigawa State.

    Buhari, who represented by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Investment, Mr. Sadiya Umar Farouk, at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse, state capital, yesterday.

    According to her, the cash grant of N20, 000 each is one among many federal government programmes to uplift 100 million Nigerians from poverty.

    The beneficiaries were selected from 27 local government areas of the state.

    She then called on the beneficiaries to boost their business with the grants provided to them by the government.

    The minister also assured them that the government would continue to initiate programmes that would boost the morale of the citizens.

    She advised them not to allow selfish individuals to divide them in the forthcoming general election in the country.

    Jigawa AFAN Leaders Facilitating Profitable Farming – Farmers

    As the 2022 season commences in most of the Northern parts of Nigeria, our correspondent takes a look at how Jigawa state farmers started their rainfed agricultural activities especially when there is heavy down pour in some areas.

    At Ganuwar Kuka in Auyo local government area, Daybreak gathered that farmers have already prepared their farmlands for showing crops which is a clear indication that this season would be different from the previous years.

    Most of the farmers that had a chats with our correspondent disclosed that Jigawa state government is making good impact towards the success of crops production across the state which has encouraged the farmers producing different farm produces.

    Similarly, Malam Suleiman from Gwaram local government area lamented that the AFAN leadership in Jigawa state is doing well to ensure that Jigawa farmers benefited from all agricultural provisions that are meant for agriculture which is another landmark achievement.

    Furthermore, the farmers announced that the All farmers association of Nigeria (AFAN) under the chairmanship of Alhaji Idris Yau Mai Unguwa is the best formidable association in Nigeria that is working selflessly to ensure that all farmers are included into the association’s programmes for profitable production.

    “We thank Jigawa state AFAN leadership under Alhaji Idris Yau Mai Unguwa and his lieutenants because they are trying their best, and we called on the government of Jigawa state to do more on agriculture because farming and livestock rearing is the mainstay of the state’s economy for decades”

    12-Year-Old Boy kill His 15-Year-Old Girlfriend Dead In Jigawa

    A 12-year-old boy, Muhammad Sani, has allegedly killed his girlfriend at Damutawa village in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

    The incident occurred on Saturday at about 2:00pm while Muhammad and his 15-year-old girlfriend, Habiba Junaidu were playing at their uncle’s House.

    He suddenly took his uncle’s dane gun, which was already loaded and shot her from the back. She died instantly.

    Police spokesman, Asp Zubairu Aminudeen Ismail confirmed the incident to our Reporter

    He said after receiving the information, police rushed the victim to the hospital and was later confirmed dead.

    Zubairu said the dane gun was recovered and the suspects were arrested for negligence.

    He said the case is still under investigation.
