    A former Permanent Secretary in Kano State, Malam Ahmad Tijjani Abdullahi, has described Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a positive development for the state’s political landscape.Abdullahi, who also served as Executive Secretary of the Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board, made the remarks in a goodwill message following the governor’s formal defection ceremony held in Kano on Monday.

    He congratulated Governor Yusuf, the 44 local government chairmen and members of the state legislature, expressing optimism that the move would promote unity within the APC and across Kano State.

    According to Abdullahi, the governor’s leadership would further strengthen democratic governance and accelerate development in the state. He said he believes the defection will enhance political stability and foster inclusive governance for residents.“

    I am optimistic that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the ruling party will bring unity and progress to Kano politics,” Abdullahi said.He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s policies and acknowledged the role of former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in Kano’s political development.

    The former permanent secretary further sympathised with traders affected by the recent fire incident at Singer Market, which reportedly destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira.

    The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA) has criticised recent public comments by Senator Rufai Hanga regarding the Kwankwasiyya political movement and the reported defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the APC. In a statement signed by its coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, the group said the senator’s past and present remarks on the Kwankwasiyya movement appeared inconsistent and could create confusion among constituents.

    KPRA recalled that Senator Hanga had previously described the movement, led by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as a “cult group”, but later acknowledged its influence while criticising Governor Yusuf. According to the group, public office holders should maintain clear and consistent positions to sustain public trust. It urged the senator to clarify his views and promote what it called “principled political discourse” in Kano State.

    The alliance also referenced a petition reportedly submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) by Isa Ado Maidoya, described as a former aide to the senator.

    The petition alleges that the senator’s son, Muhammad Samir Hanga, was involved in the diversion of a federal government project valued at over ₦250 million. KPRA noted that the allegations have not been determined by authorities and called for a transparent investigation.Efforts to get an immediate response from Senator Hanga were not successful at the time of reporting.

    Former Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Honourable Ado Tambai Kwa, has expressed support for Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, amid ongoing political discussions about a possible defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    In a statement issued to journalists in Kano on Wednesday evening, Kwa said the governor’s reported move to the ruling party reflects what he described as a willingness to work across political lines in the interest of the people of Kano State. He called on political stakeholders and residents to set aside partisan differences, stressing the need for unity and cooperation to advance governance and development in the state.

    According to Kwa, Kano stands to benefit from a more cohesive political environment, which he said could strengthen democratic practices and promote sustainable development. He urged residents to support Governor Yusuf’s administration, regardless of party affiliation, and to focus on collective efforts aimed at improving governance outcomes and social cohesion.

    Kwa also reaffirmed his continued support for the governor’s leadership, expressing optimism that Kano State would experience improved development through collaboration and political stability.There has been no official confirmation from the Kano State Government or the governor regarding any change in party affiliation at the time of filing this report.

    A new political support group, Tinubu Barau Mafitar Kano, has emerged in Kano State with a pledge to mobilise youth voters and secure increased support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.The group was formally unveiled in Kano on Thursday by its convener, Comrade Mustapha Umar Tallo Gwarzo, popularly known as Mustapha Coach, who said the initiative is focused on supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promoting the political ambition of Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin Maliya. Speaking at the event, Gwarzo said the Tinubu Barau Mafitar Kano group was established to strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the state and contribute meaningfully to the APC’s electoral success in 2027. He noted that the group also aims to encourage Senator Barau Jibrin to contest the Kano State governorship election.

    According to him, the group has a clear vision and organisational structure designed to galvanise youths across Kano State. He said young people remain a critical voting bloc and must be actively engaged to ensure victory for the APC at both national and state levels.“ We are becoming stronger and more organised. Our goal is to mobilise youths across Kano State to ensure that the APC wins the 2027 presidential and governorship elections with a clear margin,” Gwarzo said. “That is why we formed a formidable grassroots movement capable of delivering results.”He added that the Tinubu Barau Mafitar Kano campaign group would operate from ward to state level, using coordinated mobilisation strategies to generate votes and strengthen party loyalty among young voters.

    Gwarzo further explained that the group’s activities would align with the broader objectives of the APC, particularly in consolidating support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid. He described President Tinubu as a “dynamic leader” whose re-election would ensure continuity of governance and development initiatives.On Senator Barau Jibrin Maliya, Gwarzo said the group believes the Deputy Senate President has the political experience and leadership capacity to govern Kano State. He stated that the group would actively promote Barau’s candidature should he declare interest in the governorship race.

    The leadership structure of the Tinubu Barau Mafitar Kano group was also announced at the event. Gwarzo was named Chairman, while Aminu Habibi Tudun Wada will serve as Secretary. Other officials include Abba Usman as Treasurer, Aminu Bala Shanono as Organising Secretary, Umar Lawan Ungogo as Public Relations Officer I, and Abba Umar as Public Relations Officer II.Gwarzo assured that the group would adopt an inclusive approach, bringing together youths from different backgrounds and communities within Kano State. He said plans were already underway to expand the group’s reach beyond Kano to other parts of the North in the near future. He concluded by reiterating the group’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, voter mobilisation, and support for the APC’s leadership at all levels, stressing that youth participation would be central to its operations ahead of 2027.

    Dr. Dungurawa made this known during a special birthday celebration held in honour of Kwankwaso, a former Kano State Governor, Minister, Senator, and the National Leader of the NNPP.

    He noted that Kwankwaso’s leadership style and political philosophy—popularly known as the Kwankwasiyya Ideology—reflect selfless service and a commitment to human development.

    “It is gratifying to associate with Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso because he is a selfless politician and a leader whose objectives are centered on human progress and fairness. He continues to provide avenues for growth and inclusiveness without bias,” Dungurawa stated.
