The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state, according to the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano, Dr. Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa. Dungurawa made the statement on Tuesday at the inauguration of the Kano State Neighbourhood Security Personnel held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, stressing that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains focused on strengthening security at both urban and rural levels.

He said the Kano government’s security strategy reflects a deliberate effort to safeguard lives and property amid rising insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria. According to him, the state leadership has consistently prioritised peace and stability since assuming office.“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has remained steadfast in implementing proactive security measures to ensure that Kano State remains peaceful,” Dungurawa said while responding to questions from journalists at the event.

The NNPP chairman noted that the establishment of neighbourhood security personnel demonstrates the government’s resolve to complement existing security agencies and improve intelligence gathering at the grassroots. He explained that community-based security structures play a critical role in preventing crime, as they enable faster response times and closer collaboration between residents and security operatives.

Dungurawa expressed optimism that the initiative would enhance public safety, particularly at a time when security challenges are escalating in some northern states.“We are confident that His Excellency is doing his best to ensure lasting peace in Kano, especially given the increasing security concerns in other parts of the region,” he said. “I am optimistic that Kano will continue to remain peaceful.” He also called on residents to actively support the newly inaugurated security personnel, noting that community cooperation is essential for the success of any security framework. According to him, similar initiatives have yielded positive results in other states where citizens work closely with security agencies to report suspicious activities and prevent crime

Dungurawa further commended the Kano State Government for approving the establishment and inauguration of 2,000 neighbourhood security personnel, describing it as a bold and timely intervention. He praised the governor and his aides for what he termed a people-centred approach to governance, particularly in addressing security concerns that directly affect economic activities and social life.“ The success of this initiative depends largely on public support,” he added. “When citizens cooperate with security personnel, the system works better and the state becomes safer for everyone.”The inauguration ceremony attracted government officials, party leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the public, underscoring the importance of security collaboration in the state. The Kano State Government has repeatedly stated that security remains a top priority of the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration, with plans to continue investing in measures that promote peace and stability.
