    The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kano Electricity Distribution Plc. (KEDCO), Ahmed Dangana has called for collaboration with Kano State Water Board in area of improved service delivery to enhance socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Kano State.

    Mr. Dangana stated this yesterday when he received the Managing Director/CEO, Kano State Water Board, Engr. Ahmad Garba Bichi and his management team on a courtesy visit to his office, yesterday according to a press statement signed and issued to our correspondent by the Company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Malam Sani Bala Sani in Kano.

    He said, “Water and electricity are indispensable commodities of life therefore it is natural we work hand-in-hand to improve our services to upscale living standards of the people while also improving economic activities in Kano State and environs”.

    The KEDCO Chief Executive Officer also stated that “We acknowledge the importance of unhindered water supply to health and wellbeing of the people which is why we supply electricity to water board facilities through dedicated priority feeders, with quality and reliable power supply unless there are grid issues which is beyond our control”,

    Mr, Dangana also mobilised a dedicated technical team who will serve not only as a rapid response team for any technical fault that may arise on the water board feeders but avert the occurrence of any through preventive maintenance measures.

    Earlier in his remarks, Kano State Water Board CEO, Engr. Garba informed that they were at the KEDCO head office to consolidate on the existing relationship and seek assistance in the areas of improved and sustained power supply to help achieve his vision of delivering steady water supply the good people of Kano State.

    Engr. Garba who also stressed the need for a symbiotic relationship between both organisations added that, visit to KEDCO was his first official outing owing to the importance of power supply to achieving his mandate in the new role.

    Police Nab Man For Vandalising KEDCO’s Cables, Installation

    The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has expressed delight over the arrest of a vandal by the Police personnel in Kaugama L.G.A of Jigawa State.

    This was announced in a press statement signed and issued to our correspondent by the company’s deputy general manager corporate communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai.

    The statement added that the suspect was arrested and had been arraigned before a Magistrate court and charged with vandalism and theft of electricity cables from KEDCO’s installations.

    The police were able to hold Hussaini Ibrahim who is now in custody while Sulaiman Salisu is still at large, “We are committed to protecting our installation through partnership with security agencies and community leaders” We are also cautioning residents to stay away from any installation in the interest of their safety and quality service delivery to our numerous customers.

    We are appealing to our communities to help report any attempt or suspected case of theft and vandalism of KEDCO’s installation to security operatives or nearest KEDCO offices.

    Power Sector Regulators Approve Dangana As New KEDCO MD/CEO

    Power sector regulators, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) have approved the appointment of the Board of Kano Electricity Distribution Company Plc (KEDCO).

    In a press statement signed and issued to our correspondent, the company’s head of corporate communications malam Ibrahim Sani Shawai disclosed that
    the approval followed the Federal Government’s restructuring of 5 DisCos, as a result of takeover of 3 DisCos by Fidelity Bank of which KEDCO is among which led to the dissolution of the KEDCO’s board of directors.

    In this regard, NERC and BPE approved Ahmed Dangana, a seasoned management consultant and a business turnaround specialist as the new MD/CEO of the company.

    Dangana will consolidate on the achievements of past management to improve operational efficiency and deliver long term value in the company by reducing Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses and improving the company’s revenue base.

    With over 16 years experience in managing diverse portfolios across multiple sectors of the economy including power, investment banking, public finance, oil and gas and agro-allied industry, he will bring on board his deep experience in business transformation to maximise value for all KEDCO stakeholders.

    Prior to his appointment, Ahmed Dangana was a senior executive with Ernst and Young (EY), a multinational professional services firm providing consulting, assurance, tax and transactions services for clients in public and private sectors where, he led the Finance Transformation team in West Africa with focus on corporate restructure, financial management and business transformation.

    In this role, he led various projects with governments, development finance institutions and corporate entities on key developmental initiatives where the regulators also approved Ambassador Hassan Tukur as the chairman Board of Directors.

    Other members of the board are; Mr. Nelson Ahaneku, Engr Rabiu Suleiman, Mr Amaechi C. Aloke and Dr. Bashir Gwandu while Upon assumption to duty, the MD/CEO assured customers and all stakeholders of improved service delivery and electricity supply in Kano franchise, especially after the completion of the ongoing capex projects on network expansion and maintenance.

    Tambuwal Decries KEDCO, ROI, Pledges Further Collaboration

    Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has observed that despite being a stakeholder in the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), details of the state’s return on its investment in the company has been dismal and opaque.

    Nonetheless, Gov. Tambuwal assured the company that his administration is ready to deepen its relationship with the company in order to ensure its repositioning and success.

    The release by governors’ media aide,Bello Muhammad further said the Governor stated this while receiving the new Managing Director of KEDCO, Eng Yusuf Usman Yahaya and his entourage who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Sokoto on Tuesday.

    According to him, the company, in which the state government is a critical stakeholder, has not been forthcoming with details of its activities and dividends accruing to Sokoto state government from its operations.

    This not withstanding, Tambuwal assured the company that his administration is willing to continue working it with a view to encourage it to tackle the myriads of challenges it is facing currently.

    In this regard and in view of the near completion of the 38 megawatts Independent Power Project (IPP) the state government inherited from its predecessor, the incumbent administration, stated the Governor, is poised to working closely with KEDCO.

    “We will seek collaboration and partnership with you on this project, which completion has been challenging, for the benefit of the people of Sokoto state and Nigeria in general,” Tambuwal said.

    He also advised the federal government to work together with the private sector to fix the problem of power in Nigeria.

    He said this has been done in many countries and could be done in Nigeria, stressing “that there is need to do everything humanly possible to get it right in the power sector.”

    “As long as we don’t get the power sector right, we should forget any meaningful progress especially in the world of development,” he added.

    Tambuwal further explained that it is very disappointing that till now Nigeria is still where it was before on power sector reforms. “We are backward and not going forward in terms of generating, transmitting and distributing power in Nigeria,” Tambuwal emphasized.

    In his remarks, the new Managing Director of KEDCO, Eng Yusuf Usman Yahaya, said they were in the state for a stakeholders meeting organized by the Nigeria Electricity and Regulatory Commission (NERC).

    While highlighting some of the challenges the company is facing, he thanked Gov. Tambuwal for the support and cooperation being extended to it by the state government.

    The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has trained its customer care officers as well as call centre agents to improve customer services in its franchise.

    This was contained in a press statement signed and issued to newsmen by the company head of corporate communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai added that the training which was conducted yesterday featured in-depth explanations on regulatory processes, key change token procedures, diplomacy and answering calls strategies aimed at enhancing customer management.

    According to the Management, the staff were trained to ensure that they are abreast of the modern diplomacy tools towards smoothening relations with customers in line with KEDCO’s customer-centric approach to engaging stakeholders.

    In his message, the MD/CEO, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna said complaints management and resolution remained key to KEDCO as a company that makes use of such inputs to improve service delivery as well as feel the pulse of customers, hence, the training.

    Dr Gwamna, therefore, advised customers to feel free to lodge their complaints on any of KEDCO’s platforms for speedy resolutions, while appealing to them to also report activities of vandals and saboteurs in their communities.

    The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has advised new tenants in Kano franchise to make electricity bills status part of their background checks before agreeing to any tenancy terms.

    According to the Management, in a press statement signed and issues to our correspondent by the company’s head of corporate communications Ibrahim Sani Shawna, part of the background checks is to find out if such property (ies) they are about to move into is duly approved by KEDCO to be debt-free.

    The statements added that “Not carrying out such electricity bills background check will mean any outstanding debt on the property will be borne by the new tenants and may results to disconnection if outstanding bills are not settled”.

    The advice is imperative based on the prevalence of cases of outstanding bills being heaped on new tenants which is not ideal and
    In this regard, intending tenants are strongly advised to visit any KEDCO offices for proper guidance to avoid any embarrassing visits upon renting any properties.

    Similarly, KEDCO further urged landlords to ensure outgoing tenants settle their outstanding electricity bills before moving out of their property so that new tenants are not made to pay for services they didn’t enjoy.

    With the good impacts of the communication at KEDCO, we are witnessing real change especially in the area of customer-company relationship which is being referred as the tool for better understanding and peaceful distribution of uninterrupted power supply at all the times.

    The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it would strengthen enforcement measures to rid its franchise of all forms of illegalities. According to the Management, the mega taskforce inaugurated to assess Meter functionality had discovered a lot of illegal connections, Meter bypass, Vandalism and Power theft.

    We therefore, like to warn that anyone caught forthwith would be prosecuted as KEDCO will no longer tolerate any acts that is capable of causing revenue loss or damage and /or theft of our installations.

    Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has enjoined the general public across its franchise states to report any activity that may disrupt it’s determination to ensure improved power supply.
    In an announcement signed by the company’s head of  corporate communications Ibrahim Sani Shawai, the statement read “Report all forms of activities that threatened the current improvement of power supply in our franchise states while KEDCO is committed  improving service delivery but we cannot do it  as we needs a supports and good backing  from our esteemed  customers”. The statement said.
    Our correspondent reported that constant power supply by the Kano electricity distribution Company has now improved while the customers at Kano, Katrina and Jigawa states are now becoming more satisfied by the mode of the electricity supply.
    Malam Jibrin In USA, a welder from Kano said that ” we are now getting power supply more than at previous times because from what we noticed, KEDCO has now bounced back and  i am appealing to all the consumers at Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states to ensure that they paid their bills at regular times in order to ensure uninterrupted power supply “.
