    Kidnappers Abduct Daughters Of Ex-Western State Director In Ibadan, Demand N100m Ransom

    Kidnappers have abducted daughters of the late Director of Sports in the defunct Western State, Chief Emiola Adesina, and demanded N100m ransom before their release.

    our corresponded gathered that the funeral for Adesina held a week ago and Pastor Omobola Adepoju was with her sister, Mrs Abiola Olukotun, on the Ile-Ife Road, Kereku, Egbeda area, Ibadan, Oyo State, when they were kidnapped on Monday

    This was made known in a short message to The PUNCH on Tuesday by a retired permanent secretary and professor/directing staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, Prof.Tunji Olaopa.

    Olaopa wrote, “This is authentic, please. Pastor (Mrs.) Omobola Adepoju and Mrs. Abiola Olukotun are daughters of the late Chief Emiola Adesina, old Director of Sports, Western State of Nigeria and Proprietor of Subuola Nursery/Primary School in Ibadan, whose funeral held a week ago.

    “Omobola came in from Atlanta and was with her sister on her farm at a location on Ife road in Ibadan where they were both kidnapped yesterday (Monday). The kidnappers have called the family to demand N100m.”

    The Oyo State Police Spokesperson, SP Fadeyi Olugbenga, confirmed the incident to The PUNCH via a telephone interview.

    He said, “Yes, they were kidnapped yesterday while on their farm. The anti-kidnapping unit and other tactical teams are already in that area and had cordoned off the place for a search for the prompt release of the victims.”

    The spokesperson stated that the police were working tirelessly to free the victims and arrest the kidnappers.

    The Katsina State Police Command has killed a notorious kidnapper, Abubakar Nayabale and arrested another, Tanimu Salisu in Kurfi Local Government Area of the state. This was contained in a statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Katsina. “On 17/02/2020 at about 15:00hrs, bandits numbering eight on motorbikes, armed with AK 47 rifles attacked Kumare village, Kurfi local government area of Katsina State, begun shooting sporadically and kidnapped a 55-year-old, Yahaya Tella.“Operation Puff Adder, led by the DPO Kurfi, in collaboration with Vigilante group swiftly responded to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. “The team succeeded in killing one Abubakar Nayabale, a  notorious bandit, arrested another one, Tanimu Salisu, of Zakka village, Safana local government area of Katsina state. “The team rescued the victim and recovered two Boxer motorcycles from the bandits,” he said. The police spokesman added that one member of the Vigilante also lost his life during the encounter.

    After the payment of N8m ransom, bandits suspected to be kidnappers have released two minors in Kaduna State.

    The two children were the children of a Kaduna – based medical doctor, Dr. Philip Ataga.

    They were kidnapped along with their mother at Juji community, Cjukin Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday, January 24, 2020.

    The kidnappers killed their mother while negotiation on how to raise N120m ransom demanded by the kidnappers to free the children and their mother was ongoing.

    But their mother and wife of Dr. Ataga was killed and the kidnappers demanded N20m before they could set the two minors free from their den.

    A source told one of our correspondents that the two kids were reunited with their devastated father on Thursday night.

    “It was an unfortunate incident, hat after killing my wife, you ask that I should bring N20m to get my children back to me. Its most unfortunate. That’s what we find ourselves in an unsecured environment like ours at the moment.

    “We have cried out on several occasions for the security of lives and property of our community. No one would listen but when its time for an election, you find them coming around to canvass votes. Nowhere is safe. That after the killing of his wife, he now parted with N7m or N8m to save his children. It is that bad.”

    The Kaduna State Police Command as of the time of filing this report, had yet you confirm the release of the children.

    The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Yakubu Sabo, perhaps in a crowded environment, simply told our correspondent in a huss voice, “I can’t talk please.”

    Police arrest 1,527 kidnap suspects, recover 2,037 firearms in 2019 – IG

    Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has said that the force had arrested 1, 527 kidnap suspects and recovered 2,037 firearms across the country in 2019.

    Adamu said this while addressing the North-Central regional security summit on Wednesday in Lafia, Nasrawa state.

    The theme of the Security Summit was entitled:” Strategic Partnership for Effective Community Policing in the North-Central Zone/FCT.”

    Adamu said that 6, 531 other criminal suspects were arrested, while 2, 037 arms of various description with 21, 870 live ammunitions were recovered within the period.

    He said that the resilience and committment of the police and other stakeholders towards curbing crime and criminality in the country made the recoveries possible.Adamu said comprehensive reform to reposition the Police force for enhanced service delivery was part of his deliberate policy to improve security and safety in the country.

    According to the I-G, police formations and commands have been reorganised and re-equipped for effectiveness and efficiency.

    “In the coming days, new Police Mobile Force (PMF) squadrons will be established in troubled spots to complement existing security architecture and boost safety and security across the country.

    “We have recently deployed the Police Smart Surveillance (CCTV Camera-on-the-move)  vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers and other state-of-the-art tactical operational vehicles to aid our capacity in dealing with highly organised violent criminal networks.

    “We have also established the Nigeria Police national command and control centre and the Nigeria Police crime and incident data base centre.

    “These critical poilicing assets were recently commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari, and with their deployment, the Nigeria police is poised to not only make Nigerians safe but to make Nigeria safer,” he said.

    Adamu said the 5th North Central security summit was aimed at addressing the security challenges in the region.He said that such summits had been held in the four geo-political zones, and were geared towards effective integration and implementation of policing strategies.

    Adamu called on stakeholders from the zone to partner with the police towards the success of the community policing strategy.

    He said the outcome of the summit would deepen understanding of security threats dynamics in the region and new strategies to  strengthen the police and other stakeholders capacities to attain their internal security mandate.

    The governors present at the Summit included, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Simon Lalong of Plateau, Samuel Ortom of Benue,  Yahaya Bello of Kogi and Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara.

    Others were,  Abubakar Bello of Niger, while the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Bello, was represented by Adamu Gwari, the Director of Security.Alsonin attendance were the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage; the Attah Igala, Michael Ameh-Oboni; the Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Buba-Gyang among others.

    A total of 36 bandits operating in the zone who voluntarily surrendered to the police were presented to the IG at the summit. (NAN)
