    Construction Of Water Irrigation Scheme Project To Consume N3.4bn Kware, Sokoto State

    In line with Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s policy of executing development projects in urban and rural areas, series of projects were witnessed by journalists while on assessment tour to local governments led the Sokoto NUJ Council Chairman, Dalhatu Abdullahi S/Magori.

    At Kware, the Council Chairman, Jafar Hamza said the Irrigation project is being sponsored by Sokoto, Federal governments and ATASP-1.

    He said the project has been in existence since 1927 but was left unattended by previous governments until the present administration under the leadership of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made effort to restore and expand the project for its importance to teeming society adding that 340 out of 800 Hectares has already been rehabilitated.

    “With this development, food, both in commercial and consumption would be produced in large quantity while 10,000 youths would be engaged”,.

    Jafar further said the State Government has renovated Kware General Hospital as well as Secondary and Primary schools and improve security measures, construction of 10 number Borehole with one million liter surface tank, 500,000 liter elevated tank and racticulation services among others.

    “A total 200 projects has been executed in the local government”, averred the Chairman.

    In a related development, in Sokoto South and Sokoto North Local Governments, the Council Chairman for Sokoto South, Faruk Sayyudi and that of Sokoto North who doubles as ALGON Chairman Mustapha Shehu said the State Government has executed projects like fly overs that beautifies the metropolis, construct and renovate Mosques, Churches.township roads and equipped Schools among others.

    Mustapha Shehu similarly disclosed that, in Runjin Sambo area alone, 21 township roads of more than 40 kilometers were constructed and that construction of water supply schemes using ground water with capacity of 8 million gallons is already in use.

    The duo commended the state for undertaken major and gigantic projects projects in the areas especially the flyovers that beautify the metropolis.

    Speaking generally on the performance of the state government on the devidence of democracy executed in the local governments, the Sokoto State NUJ Council Chairman, Dalhatu Abdullahi S/Magori said through general assessment and in complicity of projects being inherited by two previous past administrations before the current administration, some projects like Shari’a Courts in three Senatorial zones were completed, general hospitals in Wamakko, Kware, Independent Power Project, rural roads and other multiple projects have also been completed under the leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

    “Including the legacy projects, this administration initiated numerous development projects important for both urban and rural populace some of which were as strengthening and empowering teeming youth”, averred NUJ Chairman.

    Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji made the pledge today while declaring open a three days Training of Coaches, Mentors and School Support Officers of the 8 LGEAs enjoying BESDA Early Grade Reading Program (EGR).

    Alhaji Altine Shehu said this is imperative in view of the importance of digitization of teachers supervision and monitoring for effective performance.

    He opined that time has ripe to embrace digital system toward Improving,Supervision and Monitoring of both teachers and pupils attendence and performance in our basic schools for a better result.

    According to him very soon the board will distributed teaching and learning tools to all the 23 LGEAs in the state.

    Speaking,an official from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Adam Adedeji said UBEC decided to provide 150 tablets for the training of Schools Support Officers as well as Coaches and Mentors for effective assessment of teachers employed by Besda.

    Adedeji said a software is installed on the tablets which will ensure effective assessment and monitoring of teachers while teaching their pupils.

    He described sokoto subeb as best in the implementation of besda project and urged it to sustain the feat so far recorded by the project.

    Earlier in a welcome address,the Director Quality Assurance Dr. Adamu Abdullahi Mogonho commended UBEC for providing 150 tablets for distribution to Coaches, Mentors and Schools Support Officers of the 8 LGEAs enjoying besda Intensive Literacy program.

    The LGEAS according to him included Bodinga, Binji, Silame, Kware, Sokoto North, Tureta, Goronyo and Illela.

    Mogonho described the effort of UBEC in that regard as counter productive as the tablets were in addition to similar ones provided to Head Teachers for the taking of attendance of both pupils and besda volunteer teachers in their respective Schools.

    The occasion was witnessed by the PM two and three of the board Alhaji Muhammad Dan’Ango Wurno and Hajiya Fati Ilo, Permanent Secretary Ahmed Rufa’i Ibrahim as well as Directors of Administration Mubarak A Waziri and Planning Umar Muhammad Yabo.
