    As muslims in Nigeria join others in part of the world to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, a Chieftain of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, has send out felicitations especially to the sporting Journalists in parts of the country.

    Amb. Okonkwo, currently Editor Online, Blueprint Newspapers who is also a top Secretary-General Candidate for the upcoming SWAN National election in a statement on Tuesday June 27, 2023 in Abuja enjoined Muslim Ummah to remain dedicated and show more kind gestures, in line with what Prophet the season represents.

    He equally urged Christians and others to be more accommodating in ensuring peaceful co-existence at all times.

    The statement further said, “Eid-el-Kabir is a season that calls for rededication to the cause of mankind, to appreciate the gift of life and to imbibe the virtues of tolerance, understanding and good neighbourliness.

    “This season also calls for rededication to the cause of mankind, to appreciate the gift of life and to imbibe the virtues of tolerance, understanding and good neighbourliness.

    “As media professionals, particularly in the sports industry at this time, we should focus more on the things that bind us and promote healthy exchanges in a bid to champion a professional body that works for all of us especially as we approach our National Election to determine our new set of leaders.

    “In the spirit of the season, we as members of Fourth Estate of the Realm need to reflect deeper, on the values that rekindle our resolve to uphold the tenets of our media practice at this time and always.

    “Ofcourse, reflecting on the essence of sacrifice and humility that Prophet Ibrahim in obedience to God for the promotion our common existence as Sports Journalists.

    “On a personal note, I look forward to sharing things, mostly edible with our Muslims brothers in parts of the country on the Sallah days. For those who travelled for Hajj, I wish you all Safety and Blessings at the holy ground and Safe journey back home. Eid Mubarak!”

    The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has urged Muslim faithful to dedicate the RAMADAN season to pray fervently for the state and country in general.

    Governor Bello who congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the sighting of the moon which signifies the commencement of this year’s Ramadan fast charged the Muslims to align themselves with the universal values of peace, kindness, love and respect for others which the Islamic faith promotes.

    In a press statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, said the Ramadan period which is globally revered should be utilised by Muslim faithful across the nation to pray for progress and peace while admonishing them to engage in good deeds and acts of Ibadah.

    “I wish to congratulate the Muslim Ummah for witnessing another month of Ramadan and to wish them a blessed and peaceful Ramadan.”

    “The holy month of Ramadan, for millions around the world has always been an opportunity to renew and strengthen their faith through rigorous fasting, devout prayers, reading of the Quran, reflective meditation, and carrying out of charitable deeds.”

    “All these acts closely conformed to the universal values that the Islamic faith promotes peace, kindness, love and respect for others”, the Governor said.

     Bello called on Muslims to devote more time to prayer and acts of charity as they similarly strived to improve their self-discipline motivated by hadith.
     
    He further admonished that this year’s  Ramadan which coincides with the transition of democratic leadership of the nation and many states should be used to pray for peace, unity and progress of the nation.

    Ramadan according to governor Bello is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship, as followers of Islam were expected to put more efforts into following the teachings of Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W).
     
    Governor Bello prayed for God to bestow on all Muslim Ummah good health to engage Faithfully and benefit from the blessings of the season.

    Muslims protest alleged rape of woman in Ibadan mosque

    Muslim youths, scholars, and organisations in Ibadan, Oyo State, have protested over the alleged rape of a Muslim lady in one of the mosques in Ibadan.

    The woman, fully covered in a “Niqob” Purdah, was raped inside a mosque at the Iwo Road area of Ibadan on Sunday, Jan. 29.

    The suspect is said to be the son of a road transport worker.

    Following the incident, concerned Muslim leaders held a demonstration march on Monday, Jan. 30 to demand the prosecution of the suspect.

    A source said, “An unfortunate incident happened on Sunday in Ibadan, when the son of a road transport union sneaked into a mosque and raped a niqobite.

    “This then prompted the concerned Muslim leaders to stage the protest on Monday.”

    The concerned Muslims were led in the protest by an Ibadan-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Amubieya.

    The suspect has been arrested.

    A source told DailyPost, “The thug who raped a niqobite (Muslim woman in veil) has been identified as Idris, also known as Kesari.

    “He is the son of a union leader known as Al-Majiri. He was arrested by the police and the case has now been transferred to the State CID.”

    Why I celebrates Maulud with Muslims – Pastor

    General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Kaduna, Pastor Yohana Buru, has explained why he celebrates Maulud with Muslims in the state.

    According to him, there are Muslims that always join him at his church in December to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

    Pastor Buru made the explanation at a Maulud trekking organised by Kaduna-based Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Abdullahi Mai Barota, in Tudun Wada community to mark the birth of the Holy Prophet.

    He said every year, he attends over 25 to 30 different Maulud celebrations across Nigeria and neighbouring African countries.

    “We are Christians and our Bible encourage us to be our brothers keepers. I decided to join my Muslims brothers every year to celebrate the birth of the prophet of Islam ,peace be upon him despite being a Christian because prophet Muhammad is most loved by Muslims world wide.

    “Another reason is because Muslims also join me every year to celebrate birth of Christ on Christmas day in my church,” he said.

    Buru said celebrating Maulud goes beyond Muslims alone simply because the Prophet is for everyone irrespective of tribe, religion, cultural and historical difference.

    According to the organiser of the Maulud trek, Sheikh Salihu Abdullahi Mai Barota, Christians were invited to join them in order to promote tolerance.

    He said the aim is to strengthen peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance among the adherents of the two religions.

    Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has enjoined Nigerian Muslims to step up their emulation of the characters and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in their relationships with God and fellow beings as they mark the birth of the Holy Prophet today.

    As he celebrates this year’s Eid-il-Maulud with the Muslim faithful, Gbajabiamila in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, said the exhibition of love and peace towards one another as taught by the Holy Prophet becomes imperative for building a strong and prosperous Nigeria.

    Gbajabiamila said the love of and peaceful coexistence with one another as espoused by the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet would greatly ease the journey towards a destination we all craved for as Nigeria moves into the 2023 electioneering process. 

    Gbajabiamila also urged Nigerians to continue to pray for Nigeria and her leaders at all times, saying that whatever challenges the country is currently facing can be surmounted with prayers from a united Nigeria.

    As Nigerians mark the Eid – Fitri, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion and called for prayers for national unity and a united country.

    In a message to mark the spiritual ceremony in the country, the National President of NAWOJ, Ladi Bala also appealed to Nigerians especially Muslims to imbibe the lessons of generosity in love, sacrifice and kindness as demonstrated by Prophet Mohammed (PBH).

    She said, “The Association notes with concern that Nigeria at this critical point more than ever before, needs divine intervention to overcome most of the challenges confronting and threatening its existence and unity.”

    “It is therefore important for Muslims to use the occasion of the Eid fitri celebration to pray to God concerning most of the national issues for a peaceful and United Nigeria.”

    The message read, NAWOJ note with concerned about the neglect of family values by many parents for the pursuit of wealth, hence the unacceptable negative behaviours in some children.

    NAWOJ therefore, appeal to parents particularly mothers to pay more attention to their children and wards by instilling the needed and proper values and fear of God in them for a better Nigeria.

    The Association equally pray God to release the blessings of Eid Muburak upon all our Muslim ummah and lead Nigeria to a peaceful and successful 2023 General Elections.

    The founder, Tamallan foundation Dr. Saleh Musa Wailare has issued his Sallah greetings to the people of Dambatta and Makoda local governments, as well as the Muslims Umma across the globe.

    In a statement signed and issues to newsman in Kano, his personal assistant on media and publicity Jabiru Hassan, Dr. Wailare stated that ” I wish to congratulates the people of Dambatta and Makoda federal constituency and the world Muslims community for witnessing this year’s Eid-el Kabir in a colourful events where we learnt more lessons under the teachings of Islam which is our pride”. He concluded.

    Dr. Wailare who is also aspiring for the membership of the house of representatives from Dambatta and Makoda constituency thanked the entire electorates across the two local governments for supporting his candidacy in the forthcoming 2023 general elections and promised to transform the constituency of given the mandate.

    The statement further called on the good citizens of Dambatta and Makoda who are eligible to vote to obtain their own PVC’s in order to vote for credible candidates that would deliver dividends of democracy without bias.

    As Muslims celebrate this year’s Eid Al Adha,the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation NBBF, Mr.Igoche Mark has felicitated with Muslim Umar, especially those in the basketball community.

    Mark’s felicitation was contained in message issued on Saturday in Abuja, as he charged Muslims to imbibe the lessons of the celebration.

    “On the occasion of this Year’s Eid Al Adha, which signifies the spirit of sacrifice, I wish to congratulate all Muslims in Nigeria, especially those in the basketball family.I urge all Muslims to imbibe the lessons of this period,which is sacrifice and love.”The statement reads in part.

    The NBBF President concluded his statement by praying the Almighty Allah (SWT) to accept the sacrifices and prayers offered during this period, especially concerning the unity, peace and progress of our beloved nation, Nigeria.

    Eid-El-Kabir: Nigerian Muslims Observe Prayers At Eid Grounds

    Nigerian Muslims have joined their counterparts across the globe to celebrate the 2023 Eid-El-Adha also known as Eid-El Kabir.

    The annual festival of Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice marks the end of the hajj pilgrimage to Mecca by hundreds of millions of Muslims.

    It is usually celebrated with prayers offered on the Eid ground, followed by the slaughter of goats, sheep and cattle in commemoration of the Prophet Abraham’s readiness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to Allah.

    In Katsina, President Muhammadu Buhari arrived his country home, the Daura area of the north-western state for the Eid-el- Kabir on Friday evening.

    He had earlier arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, from where he was flown to the ancient town in a helicopter.

    Hundreds of residents from within and outside the town attended the two Rak’at prayers, including the President and his son, Yusuf and the Emir of Daura, HRH Umar Faruk Umar as well as other top-ranking personalities.

    The two Rak’at prayers led by Imam Safiyanu Yusuf Dansanwai at Kofar Arewa Eid Prayer Ground commenced at about 10:00 am and rounded up at about 10:05 am.

    Also in attendance were traditional and religious leaders including the ward, village and district heads as well as members of the business and political communities in Daura.

    President Buhari eventually slaughtered his ram meant for sacrifice.

    The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has rejoiced with the Nigerian Muslims on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

    Gbajabiamila noted that the period calls for sacrifice and commitment to the course of the Almighty Allah.

    He called on Nigerian Muslims, especially those participating in this year’s Hajj, to redouble their prayers for the country.

    At times like this, the Speaker said, it is incumbent on the people to be united as one people to face the challenges confronting the country.

    Speaker Gbajabiamila was optimistic that with prayers, Nigeria will overcome her challenges, calling for special prayers for the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
