    NANTA set to award Eminent Persons in tourism industry

    The National Association of Travel Agencies, NANTA says it’s set for it’s Eminent Persons Award coming up in Abuja on for November 12, 2021.

    President of NANTA, Susan Akporiaye said that the award is aimed at celebrating achievers and role models in the industry adding that the 2021 award would amplify the tradition of excellence which is the association is known for in the past 46 years of it’s existence as a leading private sector body in Nigeria.

    ” We shall improve our tradition to unveil the champions of the industry, and related enterprises. Nothing shall be left to chances, we shall treat our awardees, sponsors and visitors to the best hospitality offerings ever seen anywhere.”

    Meanwhile, the NANTA president disclosed that for the first time in the history of the industry, the association is introducing a Media Hall of Fame, to capture and chronicle the names of Nigerian media persons, who played supportive role in the growth of the association including a Fellowship Recognition on selected members who were passionate about the affairs of the association and have also shown examplry conducts as path finders to opening up other streams of investment outside travel trade.

    We are going to also inaugurate a fellowship body for few of our very enterprising members and others whom we are proud to associate and look up.

    COVID -19: NANTA calls for rapid response tests for Nigerians enroute Dubai

    President, National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies, Nanta, Mrs Susan Akporiaye has called for COVID-19 rapid response tests on Nigerian passengers flying to Dubai as a way of checking the protocols excesses on passengers at Dubai Airport.

    Akporiaye insisted that it is better for passengers to undergo the compulsory test before departure to avoid the disturbing latest covid 19 protocols from the Dubai Airport Authority.

    She also expressed shock at the new rule that Nigerians bound to Dubai must fly only Emirates airlines, foreclosing and boxing out transit routes opportunities into Dubai from other carriers.

    ” We are studying the situation and consulting widely as the new travel restrictions may put additional financial pressures on Nigerian passengers and also create a monopolistic hold on the route.”
    Indeed, we don’t know what is going on in the minds of other countries and their airlines, this distributing situation may trigger off retaliatory actions, she lamented.

    She stated that the Dubai Airport Authority ought to ask other carriers and their home governments to set up COVID-19 rapid response antigen tests at their various airports to enable passengers on transit to undergo tests before flying into Dubai.

    ” We at Nanta believe that such gestures and arrangements will enhance the credibility of the additional COVID-19 protocols into Dubai and also encourage others in travel business to recover and contribute to building a global coalition against the impact of covid.”

    NANTA decried the industry’s polarization by the Dubai initiative which includes ban on transit passengers from other airlines to Dubai, adding that the fear of under hand competition targeting other carriers by Emirates is gaining ground and causing palpable apprehension among travel trade operators and Nigerian travel community.

    Worried by this development, NANTA commended the efforts of the government and airlines to help secure the lives of passengers and protect their citizens but decried the situation and call on the Minister of Aviation to intervenecalled on the Minister of Aviation to help intervene and interrogate the situation.

    Effective February the Dubai airport Authority closes its facilities to others airlines, flying passengers from Nigeria except they fly Emirates airlines.

    The rapid response antigen test can only be done in Lagos and Abuja with Dubai bound passengers from the two Nigerian cities, paying 36, 800 naira and 25, 800 naira respectively putting additional expenses on passengers.
    This is in addition to the PCR test from approved laboratories by Nigerian Center for Disease Control ( NCDC) and the Presidential Task force.

    NAFEST 2020: NANTA commends NCAC for rebranding culture

    President National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (nanta), Susan Akporiaye  has commended the National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC for the successful branding of Nigeria’s cultural products at the just concluded  Jos NAFEST festival.

     Akporiaye stated that NCAC under tunba Segun Runsewe has proven beyond doubt that Nigeria has all it takes to welcome visitors and above all, put together Cultural tourism events that can compete favourably with others all over the world.

    ” It is very exciting and heartwarming to see how our culture tourism products, cuisines, fashion and history are carefully articulated and presented.” Otunba Segun Runsewe has given us hope and provided us tourism products to market and promote, and we at nanta  have noted this intervention and invitation to support, create jobs and empower our members” she explained. 

    She further explained that time has come for tourism, Culture and Hospitality Practitioners to take advantage of the various festivals and Cultural platforms packaged by NCAC not only to attract both local and International visitors but create additional streams of job openings and income.

    “We can’t pretend that government is not doing anything to help us. Under NCAC, we have veritable Cultural tourism products in Nafest and International Arts and Culture expo(INAC), so we must put on our thinking caps, get out of our state of  self pity and do the right thing.”

    She promised to mobilize  the over fifteen thousand members of the association to work with the NCAC leadership to create a sustainable tourism package and also at same time, work out new normal marketing opportunities with state governments to power rural Cultural heritage to the advantage of women and youths across.

    ” Jos is certainly beautiful and the many stories of insecurity exaggerated. NANTA has a role to play, to be part of efforts to rebrand Nigeria.”

    Time has come for us to find the connection and we are glad otunba Segun Runsewe has shown us the way” she added.
