    Covid 19: Nasarawa Assembly to compel state Task Force committee to appear before it, threaten sanctions.

    The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has threatened to invoke all relevant sections of the Constitution to compel the state Task Force Committee on COVID-19 to appear before its Ad hoc Committee on COVID-19.

    This followed the inability of the state Task Force Committee on COVID-19 members to honour the invitation extended to them by the House Ad hoc Committee on COVID-19.

    Chairman of the committee and member representing Lafia Central, Hon Dahiru Abdullahi Angibi stated this while briefing newsmen at the assembly complex in Lafia Tuesday.

    He lamented that the House through the Ad-hoc committee on COVID-19 has invited members of the state Task Force Committee on COVID-19 but instead of honouring the invitation, they went and sent the Secretariat.

    He re-emphasized that the House is interested to meet with the state Task Force Committee on COVID-19 members not the members of the secretariat and asked them to go back.

    He added that the House will not hesitate to use its relevant laws of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to do the needful if the members of the state Task Force on COVID-19 failed to honour its further invitation.

    The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday sworn in Hon Ismaeel Suleiman Danbaba (APC) as new member representing Nasarawa Central Constituency following the death of the member representing the constituency at the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu (APC), on April 30.

    Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the speaker of the House while swearing in the new member in Lafia during the House proceedings expressed optimism that the new lawmaker would provide quality leadership to his constituents and the state at large.

    The speaker urged lawmakers to guide and extend their hands of friendship to the new member to enable him succeed.

    ” Today, we have a brand new member, hence the need for his inauguration.

    ” On behalf of myself and the entire House, we congratulate Hon Ismaeel Suleiman Danbaba.

    ” I have no doubt of your capacity as you are going to provide quality leadership to your people and the state at large.

    ” We pray God to continue to give you good and sound health to enable you discharge your duties effectively.,” he said.

    Balarabe Abdullahi also urged the new member to be guided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the House rules in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the state.

    The speaker assured the new member of support and cooperation to enable him succeed.

    It would be recalled that on Aug. 9th,2020.,the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ,has announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ismaeel Suleiman Danbaba, the winner of the bye-election for the Nasarawa Central State Constituency in the state House of Assembly.

    Mr Iliyasu Umar, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer while announcing the result of the bye-election said the APC candidate scored 7,475 to defeat Mr Bage Nuhu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who got 4,608 votes.

    In another development, a Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa State Mortgage Board to Regulate Mortgages, Foreclosure and Enforcement in Real Property and for Other Connected Purpose scaled second reading during the House Proceedings.

    Hon Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading and it was seconded by Hon Danladi Jatau, the Minority Leader of the House.

    The speaker commits the bill to the House Committee on Capital Market and Urban Development to work and submit its report on Monday September 7th

    The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has expressed its readiness to continue to partner with the state government and other Non Governmental Organizations NGOs especially donor agencies in order to boost the nutritional foods of children and fight malnutrition in the state.

    Hon Usman Labaran Shafa the Chairman, House Committee on Health gave the assurance on Thursday in Consort Luxury Suite, Abuja at A Two Day pre-budget meeting on allocation, releases,and utilization of nutrition for key stakeholders from the legislator, permanent Secretaries and directors of the line ministries in Nasarawa State.

    Labaran Shafa, who represents Toto/Gadabuke constituency and chairman house committee on health said that the continued partnership would not only tackle the malnutrition among children in the state but would also improve on the standard of living of the children and enable them to be morally sound as they grow.

    ” The importance of nutrition to the development of a child or children and the society at large cannot be overemphasized

    ” Nutrition will make the children sound, healthy and productive at all times.

    “As a House, we will continue to partner with the state government and NGOs in order to boost the nutritional foods of children in the state, ” he said.

    He has also assured the state government of the House’s readiness to support its various health programmes in the interest of the health of the people of the state and for the overall development of the state.

    In their good will messages, Hon Peter Akwe, Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture and Hon Aliyu Dogara, Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, have assured of their committee’s readiness to support nutritional activities in the state.

    While Hon Dogara who is the chairman house committee on Finance and Appropriation promised to give adequate consideration to budget proposal for nutrition,Hon Akwe who is the chairman of committee on Agriculture on his part, re-affirmed his commitment to ensure that the overall aims and objective of the workshop is achieve to the maximum.

    It reported that the event had in attendance House committees Secretary of Finance and appropriation Mr.Aluma Joseph Peter and Hajiya Hadiza M. Bako of Health Committee.

    Alleged fraud: Nasarawa Assembly demands sacking of SSG

    The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has asked Governor Abdullahi Sule to relieve the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Aliyu Ahmed-Tijani, of his appointment.

    The lawmakers said the SSG should be sacked over his alleged failure to account for N284. 5m school projects fund when he was a Commissioner for Education during the tenure of the immediate past governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, in the state.

    The Speaker of the House, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, gave the directive on Tuesday in Lafia shortly after the house deliberated on the report of an Ad-hoc committee investigating the alleged N1 billion released in 2018 for the renovation/fencing of Secondary schools across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

    Daybreak reports that this followed a motion moved by Mr. Mohammed Alkali (APC Lafia North about 11:30am, which was seconded by Mr. Ibrahim Muluku APC Nasarawa Eggon East) at 11:35am.

    The speaker also asked Mr. Ahmed-Tijani to refund over N248.5 million to the state government.

    He said, “Based on the resolution reached by the lawmakers of the House, Governor Abdullahi Sule should relieve the SSG, Mr. Aliyu Ahmed Tijani of his appointment.

    “I will request the clerk to communicate the House’s resolution to Governor Abdullahi Sule for his immediate action.”

    He, however, asked Sule to work on the House’s resolution in the interest of peace and development.

    He also gave a month ultimatum to contractors, who collected money and refused to carry out the renovation/fencing, to do so within one month

    BREAKING: Nasarawa Assembly loses member, Adamu-Ibrahim

    The member representing Nasarawa Central at the State House of Assembly, Suleiman Adamu-Ibrahim is dead. He died on Thursday night after a brief illness at Federal Medical Centre Keffi.

    Mohammed Okpoku who announced his death, said his remains will be laid to rest today in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

    Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe has condoled with the family of the deceased member, describing his death as a colossal loss to the entire state.

    Nasarawa Assembly passes Geographic Information amendment bill

    The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill to amend the Nasarawa State Geographic Information Service (NAGIS) for effective land administration and to boost internally generated revenue.

    Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, the Speaker of the Assembly, announced the passage of the bill after Alhaji Tanko Tunga, the Majority Leader of the House, moved a motion for the bill to scale the third reading.

    The motion was seconded by Mr Danladi Jatau, the Minority Leader of the House, during the House proceedings in Lafia on Wednesday.

    Balarabe-Abdullahi said that the importance of the NAGIS to the development of the state could not be over-emphasised, hence the need for the passage of the bill.

    He commended the sponsor of the bill, Alhaji Agah Muluku (APC- Nassarawa Eggon East), and other members for their contributions to allow the bill to see the light of the day.

    According to the amended law, the qualification of the Director General of NAGIS should be a Bachelor Degree or its equivalent in any field with not less than seven years cognate experience in Geospatial Information Systems, Information Technology and /or Land Administration.

    ” The agency is also mandated by its establishing law to process grants of statutory rights of occupancy, issue letters of grants, process and issue Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O), among other functions,” the Speaker said.

    He explained that the law, if finally assented to by the governor, will enhance land use and management of land as well as other purposes for the overall development of the state.

    The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to produce a clean copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.

    In a related development, the House intermediately proceeded on Ramadan break and will resume on June 1.
