    NCWS National President Inaugurates Newly Elected Kano Executives

    The National President, National Council Of Women Societies (NCWS) Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau has today 7th July, 2023 inaugurated the newly elected Kano state executives officers of the society in a colourful ceremony.

    In her welcome address, the outgoing NCWS president, Hajiya Zainab Ali Musa said that the election of the new state executive officers was done in a peaceful state Convention where delegates from the 44 local governments makes the polls.

    She added that ” Kano NCWS is working with one voice, and from what we have done, kano women remained committed to ensure that female gender progression is enjoyed at both rural and urban settlements, therefore I m certain that the new executive officers would continue from where we stopped “.

    Hajiya Zainab Ali Musa commended the delegates and former executive officers for their dedication and hardworking towards the success of NCWS in Kano state without bias, and thanked the National President, Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau for witnessing the inauguration of the new executive officers.

    In her inaugural speech, the National President,Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau described Hajiya Zainab Ali Musa as one of the best state NCWS president that contributed to women development in kano before elevating to National level as Public relations officer during the last NCWS national congress.

    ” I am therefore charging the newly sworn in state executives to discharged your duties effectively in order to transform our society to n exemplary Non governmental Organisation, and I congratulates you on your victory during the just concluded state convention”. She concluded.

    Speaking shortly after taking oath of office, the newly inaugurated President Hajiya Amina Shehu Ismail promised to work deligiently in order to promote the council in kano state, where she commended both the National President Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau and the outgoing state President who is now the National Public relations officer Hajiya Zainab Ali Musa for actualizing the inaugural ceremony.

    Our correspondent who had a cuts with some delegates reported that the occasion was attended by the 44 local government NCWS executives, representatives from the state government, wives of the council chairmen and women groups.

    Kano NCWS Exco Dissolution By The National President Not In Order

    The recent dissolution of Kano state executives of the National Council For Women Societies (NCWS) by the National President, Laraba Shoda is not in order an the national body did not in any way follow the appropriate channel before the action.

    Speaking to our correspondent in Kano shortly after the issuance of the dissolution on trending news, members from the three senatorial zones described the action as un acceptable because the states executives under the leadership of Zainab Ali Musa are trying their best in discharging their duties without bias.

    Malama Rahinatu Aliyu from Dawakin Tofa local government area said that ” the dissolution news came to us as a surprise because the national headquarters of the NCWS did not follow appropriate channel in their action as a Non-government organisation, and we are benefiting from their initiatives therefore we are solidly behind our Exco”.

    Similarly, Hajiya Asabe mai Nasara lamented that it is not in order just to dissolve an elected executives officers without due consultations where she advised the national president to cancel the dissolution and follow consensus ways that can be acceptable to every side without hurting anybody.

    In conclusion, Kano state women disclosed that NCWS under Hajiya Zainab Ali Musa is working selflessly towards the women gender progression at both rural and urban settlements, and called on the national president to change it’s decision for the interest of Kano women.

    Our correspondent tried to hear from the Kano state president Zainab Ali Musa but proved abortive, but source close to the presido on the condition of anonymity told Daybreak News that ” NCWS is planning an election in Kano state and all the necessary preparations have been concluded to ensure hitch-free polls in order to enthrone credible leaders that would lead the council with backings from all angles.

    COVID-19: NCWS expresses readiness to partner women groups

    The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), has expressed its desire to partner with other women groups in decision-making, particularly in this critical period of coronavirus pandemic.

    The National President of NCWS, Mrs Gloria Shoda in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja said that women groups should be included in all committees setup by government agencies at all levels.

    Shoda, however, noted that the failure of ministries, departments and agencies of government not to include women groups and NGOs was worrisome.

    She said that in these trouble times, women and children were worse hit, hence the need for women as care givers to be included in the frontline for the fight against COVID-19.

     ”NCWS is the umbrella body of Women Organisations in Nigeria with affiliates across board and structures in all the 774 LGAs in the country.

    ”We ought to be involved in issues like the fight against the spread of the pandemic currently ravaging the country and the world.

    ”Part of our mandate is assisting and enabling the nation to meet the needs of women but the exclusion of NCWS and other women who are the most vulnerable, should be urgently addressed.

    ”It is organisations like the NCWS that will articulate women’s needs and help to build the needed structures in collaboration with government to ensure appropriate response mechanism to women priorities.

    ”It will also address the concerns, especially in the disbursement of palliative to cushion the effects of the lockdown,’’ she said.

    Shoda said that the council was ready and willing to galvanize all its branches, chapters and affiliates across the country to work with reliant committees of government to reached the vulnerable in the distribution of palliatives.

    She said that all hands must be on deck in the presence of increasing spread of this virus in order to complement government efforts, “which is commendable, and together we shall succeed’’.

    ”We appreciate the different tiers of governments, NCDC and other health workers, the media, all those that have contributed in anyway, including the First Lady for their hard work and sacrifices. 

    ”The media is really working hard creating awareness and especially the health workers who sacrifice their time, expertise and risking their lives to save others. 

    ”The essentials service providers are also helping in their various ways. We pray for those that have died, may their souls rest in peace.

    “Coronavirus is no respecter of anyone, stay safe,’’ the NCWS national president said.

    COVID-19: NCWS advises Nigerians to observe proper hygiene

    The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), on Saturday advised Nigerians to maintain proper hygiene to curtail the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country.

    Its National President, Mrs Gloria Shoda, gave the advice in a statement in Abuja as the virus continued to ravage the world.

    She also advised Nigerians to maintained social distance as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

    She said that maintaining social distance had become imperative as part of measures to curtail further spread of the virus in the country.

    According to her, “maintaining distance and avoiding gathering are some of the ways to stem the spread of the virus.

    “Maintaining distance from friends and family members and avoiding social gathering does not mean any negative feeling but to prevent the spread of the virus,”she said.

    Shoda said that the information from affected countries and experts showed that personal and environmental hygiene alone were not enough to prevent the virus.

    Shoda said that the effort to curb further spread of the Coronavirus had become everybody’s business.

    She said People, especially from states that already have suspected and confirmed cases of the virus should avoid handshake, hugging, and large gathering at the moment in their interests.

    ” We should all learn to improve on our personal and environmental hygiene.

    “I am also calling on women who are wives and mother to ensure their families abide by the rules to stay alive.

    ”We should ensure that our family members wash hands as many times as possible and followed strick the rules as recommended by the WHO , ” she said.

    She urged the public to report any person exhibiting symptoms suspected to be of COVID-19 to the nearest response teams set up by the government for prompt action.(NAN)
