    Niger Republic to partner Kano State in Youth development

    Niger Republic’s Minister of Vocational Training,Kassoum Mamane Moctar had said the Nigeria’s neighbour country is impressed with the laudable programmes and policies initiated by the Ganduje administration in youth development.

    According to him, the strides achieved in that sector made the Government in Niger Republic to send a delegation to Kano on a study tour of its skills acquisition programmes for youths.

    The Minister made the statement on tuesday when he paid a visit to the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje at the Kano Government House.

    He added that the Youths empowerment initiative of the Kano State Government are worthy of emulation because of its impact on the lives of Kano people.

    Responding, the Governor represented by his Deputy Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said realising that the youths are the back bone of development made the State Government to give them priority in its programmes.

    “Empowering the youths is very essential to us because it prevents them from idleness,drug abuse and committing crimes he said”.

    The Governor however while assuring the delegation from Niger Republic of continued support and cooperation, described the visit to the youth development facilities in the State as a proof the existing relationship between them and Nigeria particularly with Kano State.

    Borno Governor Earns 2nd Highest Award Of GCON Equivalent In The Republic Of Niger

    President Republic of Niger, Mohammed Bazoum, Tuesday, awarded the second highest national honours to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state, “de Grand Officer dans I`Ordre”, the equivalent of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON in the Nigerian parlance of ranking of national honours.

    President Bazoum, said after monitoring Governor Zulum’s courage,comitment and sincerity in the fight against Boko Haram, considered him worthy of the award of the second highest honours of republic of Niger.

    Coupled with his deep concern on the plight of Borno citizens taking refuge in parts of Niger Republic, in which the GOVERNOR had cause to visit them a number of times, offering support and steadily evacuating and resettling the refugees in new houses built in Borno.

    The decoration took place during this year’s national independence celebrations of the republic of Niger, in Zindar,as part of events lined up for the ceremony.

    He said,the highest national award, “Grand Croix Des Ordre National Du Niger” the equivalent of GCFR, is conferred only on serving Presidents in Niger.

    According to the President,Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum,was the first governor from Nigeria to be so decorated with the country’s National Honour, “de Grand Officer dans I`Ordre”, the country’s second highest national award.

    Reacting to the award, Governor ZULUM,said the honour would spur him to do more towards the improvement of Borno people.

    Accompanied to the republic of Niger,by Senators, Kashim Shettima, Mohammed Ali Ndume, Chief whip of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Speaker Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, and the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engr Bukar Talba.

    Highlights of the occasion,,was the commissioning of 138km road project and the 22 mega watts power station,all in Zindar.

    FG Signs $1.959bn Agreement For Rail-Line Terminating In Niger Republic

    The Federal Government has signed an agreement for the construction of $1.959 billion rail project that would terminate in the Niger Republic.

    This was disclosed on Monday by the Ministry of Transportation via Twitter.

    The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Mota- Engil Group, a multinational engineering and construction company, for the Kano to Maradi rail line project.

    While the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, signed the agreement on behalf of Nigeria the Managing Director of Mota- Engil Group, Antonio Gvoea, signed on behalf of the firm in Abuja.

    According to a statement by the spokesman, Ministry of Transportation, Eric Ejiekwe, the Minister said the 283.750-kilometre rail line, besides developing freight and passenger transport, will be integrated with road transport and would make a great contribution to the local economy as well as an important development in the social sector.

    The project duration is for 36 months and the contract type is engineering, procurement and construction.

    Amaechi has said the inauguration of the Lagos-Ibadan rail line had been put on hold due to upsurge of COVID-19 in the country.

    According to him, over 60 staff on project site have been infected while trying to complete the project.

    JUST IN: Maina repatriated from Niger Republic

    The Nigeria Police Force has extradited the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, from Niamey, Niger Republic.

    The fugitive was apprehended in the Nigerian capital on Monday, by the operatives of the NPF, International Criminal Police Organisation National Central Bureau, Abuja, in collaboration with their Nigerien counterparts.

    Daybreak gathered on Thursday that the fugitive has been brought to Abuja where he was being held at a police facility.

    He will be interrogated before handing over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or the Nigerian Correctional Service for remand in Kuje Custodial facility.

    The former director in the ministry of interior, who is being prosecuted on 12 counts of money laundering to the tune of N2 billion by the EFCC, had jumped bail forcing the trial judge, Justice Abang Okon to issue an arrest warrant against him.

    He was said to have stopped attending his trial since September 29, 2020, prompting Justice Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to order the remand of his surety, Senator Ali Ndume penultimate Monday.

    The court, however, granted bail to the Borno South Senator, last Friday.

    Security Agents Arrest Maina In Niger Republic

    The former Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina has been arrested by security agents.

    Although details of the arrest remain sketchy security sources confirmed to Channels Television that he has was arrested in the Niger Republic.

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Maina for alleged money laundering to the tune of N2billion.

    The trial judge, Justice Abang Okon issued a warrant for his arrest after he ‘jumped bail’ and failed to appear in court.

    He was said to have stopped attending his trial since September 29, 2020, prompting Justice Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to order the remand of his surety, Senator Ali Ndume, last Wednesday.

    Justice Okon Abang later granted the bail said the decision was based on the senator’s record of good behaviour in court.

    The bail was granted to the Senator pending the hearing and determination of his appeal filed at the Court of Appeal challenging his remand.
