    Northern Governors Called Upon To Revive New Nigerian, Settle Company’s Serving Workers- Mai Nasara

    The Northern States governors have been called upon to revive New Nigerian Newspapers in order to retain it’s position as the best national daily as seen in the past when the company is fully operational.

    The call was made by Malam Adamu Mai Nasara, a retired civil servant in kano while speaking to our correspondent on the need to revive the company especially at present when the globe is rapidly advancing in the area of information technology.

    He disclosed that” Northern governors should try and revive New Nigerian Newspapers as the owners, and at the same time settle the the workers in order to save their livelihood because they are now suffering due to non-payments of their entitlements for long despites their efforts in keeping the company’s flag flying”. he stressed.

    Mai Nasara added that Northern States governors should as a matter of urgency try to save the Sardauna legacies especially in the area of information technology where the region depended on the organisation in the past, where he commended the workers and management team for being patient prior to further action by the Northern governors.

    Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) at the end of an emergency meeting held in kaduna said the ENDSARS protesters and hoodlums cannot change the regime for Nigerians.
    The Forum made the statement on Thursday in a communique issued and presented by it’s Chairman and Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Simon Lalong .

    The meeting extensively deliberated on issues bordering on National Security particularly Endsars Nationwide protest especially the wanton destruction of lives and property in some parts of the country.
    It stated the that “Concerned by these development, the Northern States Governors Forum met and deliberated on the matter. The Forum however, expressed worry and concern on why the protests have persisted despite the magnanimity exhibited by the Federal Government and various State Governments calls from well-meaning Nigerians to put an end to the protest.
    The meeting which deliberated on the various dimensions of Endsars protest in across the  country noted that however acknowledged right  to protest.
    “While appreciating across constitutional rights of all citizen to express concern even by way of protest”, it however condemned the incessant destruction of lives and properties that ensued in the process.
    “Forum commiserates with those who lost their lives, the wounded and those whose properties where destroyed.
    “Forum strongly sues for unity and peaceful co-existence of all citizens and groups of people in Nigeria”, and urged all Nigerians to see themselves as equal citizens of the country as the unity of Nigeria cannot be compromised.
    “The Forum regrets the diabolical influencers in form of hooliganism, ethno-religious bigots and even political marauders who are bent on pulling the nation down on its knees and pushing for regime change. “Forum also called on all Nigerians to resist these enemies of the nation by supporting Mr. President, the Federal Government and democracy at large.
    “It appeal to all citizens to restraint themselves from
    unwarranted display of sentiments, harassment and intimidation of other citizens resident in their home states”, noting that these are antics of enemies of the country,  pushing  violently for regime change outside the ballot box.
    “Forum resolve further intensify their strategic engagements among different levels of stakeholders in their respective states.
    “Forum also notes the heavy presence of external influencers both locally and internationally. Called on all citizens particularly community leaders and youth groups to be very vigilant and report the presence of such people to security agencies.
    “The Forum calls for comprehensive and robust reforms in the Police Force. She supports various Federal Government initiatives put in place by the Federal Government and will ensure that they are fast track and given more impetus by the Nineteen (19) Northern states.
    “The Forum advocates for the Constitution of Judicial Commission of enquiry to investigate all levels of destruction and killings during the Endsars protest.
    “Calls for greater synergy between the state and the federal government in strengthening the unity, oneness and overall development of the country”, urging Federal Government to explore the possibility of ending ASUU strike. “Most of the youths are idle staying at home. “Forum further restates her commitment in exploring area of reviving the ailing economy of the North with reference to those areas of comparative advantage.
    “The Forum is in synergy with other Governors in the South-West, South-South and South-East to address these challenges of nationhood headlong. Together we shall keep Nigeria united and indissoluble.
    “The Forum restates its confidence in the unity of Nigeria and support all our colleagues in other states of the Federation in our collective efforts to restore peace and stability.

    BREAKING: #EndSARS: Northern governors in emergency meeting

    An emergency meeting of the Governors of the 19 Northern States over the violence and tension arising from the nationwide #EndSARS protests, is currently in progress in Kaduna State. The #EndSARS protesters had over the past weeks been agitating the scrapping and the extrajudicial killings by the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

    It took place mostly in the Southern parts of the country. However, youths from the Northern region took to the streets to protest the insecurity in the north under the banner of #EndInsecuriyNow. The protest was to draw the attention of authority to the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents as well as banditry.

    The protests especially in the South had taken a dangerous dimension following the attacks on the #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos. Also, the protest snowballed into violence in Jos, Plateau State. Against these backdrops, the regional chief executive officers are meeting to possibly forestall or nip in the bud any possible action that might lead to violence in the North. In attendance, were Governors Simon Lalong of Plateau, Aminu Waziri Tambuwwal of Sokoto, Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara, AbdulRahman AbdulRazak of Kwara, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Sani Bello of Niger, Babagana Zulum of Borno and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.Kogi, Kano, Katsina, Bauchi and Kaduna States were represented at the meeting by their Deputy Governors.

    The meeting kicked off at 1.50 pm at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, with the rendition of the national anthem.

    The Northern Governors Forum has described former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon as a distinguished Statesman, Gentleman, Prayer Warrior and Bridge Builder who has spent most of his lifetime working for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria. While felicitating with the former Nigerian leader on the occasion of his 86th birthday, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong said General Gowon remains one of Nigeria’s finest leaders whose exemplary lifestyle of humility and enormous sacrifices towards nation building and global peace is well recognized. Governor Lalong said General Gowon has continued to provide inspiration to the nation’s leadership and development trajectory through his commitment to the unity, peace and progress of the country right through his military career till date. He also acknowledged that the former Nigerian leader has continued to take particular interest in the development of the Northern region particularly at this time when it is facing serious challenges such as poverty, insurgency, banditry, and illiteracy. While wishing the celebrant good health, God’s grace and divine strength, the Northern Governors urged Gen. Gowon not to relent in deploying his wealth of experience and knowledge in the pursuit of unity and national integration despite the challenges the nation is passing through.

    A public commentator, Shehu Sani, has lambasted Northern Governors over their support for SARS.

    Recall that Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, spoke on Thursday after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

    The Chairman, Northern Governors Forum, said though the government has approved the scrapping of the unit, the decision should be reconsidered.

    Reacting to the that, the former Senator condemned their declaration of support for the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

    The government critic tweeted his reaction on Friday.

    “Dear Northern Governors, if SARS is working in the North, why has kidnappings and killings by bandits and terrorists continued unabated?

    ”#EndsSARS”, Sani wrote.

    The Northern Governors Forum has congratulated His Royal Majesty, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, Gbong Gwom Jos on his 69th birthday. In a congratulatory message, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong said the royal father has contributed to the development of Plateau State, the region and Nigeria as a whole through the many responsibilities he carried out over the years. Lalong said “Without doubt, the story of your life has been that of excellence, diligence, honesty, patriotism and compassion as you have impacted positively on members of your immediate family and all people that have come across you”. The Governor also said as Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Traditional Rulers and Emirs, the Gbong Gwom Jos has worked together with his colleagues to promote and consolidate on peace in the Plateau State and other parts of the Northern region as well as facilitate the economic prosperity of the people. This he said has equally enhanced the dignity and integrity of the traditional institution in the State and the nation in general. While wishing the traditional ruler more years of God’s favour and protection, Governor Lalong urged him to continue to offer his wise counsel and wealth of experience towards assisting the Forum in addressing challenges of insecurity, under development, poverty and illiteracy.

    Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong has condoled with former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, on the death of his daughter, Sadiya.
    Governor Lalong in a condolence message on behalf of his colleagues expressed deep regret over the sudden death of Sadiya which he described as a great loss to her her immediate family and entire people of Sokoto State. 
    Lalong said “this is a sad development for which we cannot question the creator. Even as we grieve over the demise of this young and promising woman, we must accept it as the will of God and pray that God will forgive her sins and grant her eternal rest. We express our deep condolences to the entire Wamakko family at over this sad occurrence”.
    He also prayed God to comfort Senator Wamakko and members of his family at this difficult moment.

    Northern Governors Hold Virtual Meeting; Discuss Covid, Rehabilitation and Re-Integration of Almajiris, Others

    The Northern Governors Forum has met to further discuss issues relating to the development of the region.The virtual meeting held on Wednesday 9th September 2020 was presided over by Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong.

    On Covid-19, the Northern Governors were happy with the level of awareness and testing particularly as all the States of the region now have testing centres. They however resolved to sustain community engagement to prevent further spread of the disease particularly in rural areas.They were also briefed on the order for mobile testing vans which they made saying once they are supplied, they will help in diagnosing about 30 clinical conditions including HIV, TB, HEPATITIS, EBOLA among others. 

    The Economic Blueprint Committee headed by the Governor of Kebbi State Atiku Bagudu briefed the forum that a document has been developed encompassing the present economic situation of the region and highlighting how to harness its many potentials particularly during the post-Covid era. The report will soon be presented formally.The Governors also reviewed the success of the ban on Almajiri phenomenon in the North and concluded that it was a success as the children were evacuated to their States of origin to reunite with their families and guardians.To further consolidate on this success and ensure that the children are given proper education and care, the Northern Governors received briefing from Mariam Uwais, Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments who explained that the Federal Government was willing to partner with the Northern Governors in the process of ensuring that the children are given a smooth transition from the Almajiri system to formal education.She said the plan is to ensure that proper data is generated so that the children will be kept in a school environment for about 6 to 9 months and be given intense basic education and skills to enable them fit into the new perspective which will prepare them for the classroom and formal school system. She said those who are a bit older and may want to go into trade and other vocations will also be trained.The Forum also received briefing from Mohammed Alqassim Yahaya of Ansarudeen Global Resources, Consultants engaged by the Governors to conduct detailed research on the Almajiri phenomenon in the region so as to generate relevant statistics that will assist them deal with the situation conclusively. Yahaya said they were still harvesting the data which was slowed down by the corona virus pandemic and assured that before March 2021, the data will be ready. The Governors asked for speedy work on the assignment to keep pace with developments on the subject.Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paullen Tallen also addressed the Northern Governors on the girl child in Northern Nigeria where she stressed that educating the girl child is the best way to reduce the burden of the region be it poverty, illiteracy or disease.She appealed to the Governors to fast track the domestication of the Child Rights Act in the region as ten States in the North are yet to domesticate the law, long after it was enacted at the Federal Level.The Minister also called on them to do same for the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act which only few States have domesticated in order to tackle the rising cases of rape and other crimes against women particularly in the North. She also raised an alarm over the proliferation of orphanages in the region which are increasingly being used for child trafficking.World Bank Country Director Shubham Chaudhuri and Aisha Garba Mohammed, Education Specialist were also invited to brief the Northern Governors on the Bank’s interventions in the region in the areas of education, health and empowerment.They said that some of the bank’s empowerment programmes in the region are focused on women and girls and the Governors are key drivers for implementation. They explained that the 500 million dollars grant recently announced for six States has five from the North as beneficiaries which will be targeted towards improving education by constructing and renovating over 5000 schools close to the communities, support for poor families, and social engagement to change orientations that hinder access to schooling particularly for the girl child.

    A retired civil servant with ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs Malam Abba Tanko advised the northern governors to include the traditional rulers in the fight against insurgency in their respective states in order to control the security breach at all levels.

    He gave the advise in a chat with Daybreak news correspondent in Kano, where he assured that including the traditional institutions in the northern region would help in the successful fight against insurgency because traditional rulers remain the the best option in achieving government’s programmes in every sector.

    Malam Tanko added that ” I worked with traditional rulers in Kano state during my days as civil servant, and I am certain that involving them in the fight against insurgency would be an added advantage because they really know how to bring sanity into the societies with excellent results “. He said.

    He called on the governors to remove politics in the fight against insurgency because playing politics in the security systems is a great mistake because there is serious challenges in politics especially in developing countries.

    The Northern governors have been called upon to hold an emergency meeting in order to find a lasting solutions to the region’s security challenges especially in Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi and Niger states.

    Muktar Abdullahi Ungogo, a member of the Vigilante group of Nigeria made the call in a chat with Daybreak news, where he disclosed that insecurity affecting the northern region has retarded economic progress of the region which must be look upon.

    He added that” I suggests that the emergency meeting should be organised by the governors so as to discuss the way out in the areas of insecurity, economic progress and general development of their respective states in order to restore the glory of the region in general”. He lamented.

    Muktar Ungogo commended the Nigerian security agencies for playing a good role in the fight against insurgency despites some challenges and called for the hidden identity of the people who often furnish the security forces with vital information of the criminals hideouts that leads to their arrests and prosecutions.a l like PV OE

    Similarly, the VGN member task the general public to gives more co-operation to the security agencies for the success of the war against insurgency, and thanked the VGN members in the country for their contributions in the promotion of peace and unity in Nigeria as seen everywhere.
