Senatorial Candidate Shot Dead By NSCDC Official In Imo

The Imo State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Raji Ibrahim has narrated how Imo North Action Alliance senatorial district candidate, Ndubuisi Emenike, was killed.

The late Emenike was allegedly shot dead by one Sydney Ogudoro, an Assistant Superintendent of the Corps.

The commandant, who sympathized with the people of the state and Nigerians at large over the sudden death, pacified the people and assured that the corps would not leave any stone unturned in the investigation of the matter.

Assuring the people that Civil Defence Corps and other sister security agencies would investigate the matter thoroughly, Ibrahim described the suspect, Sydney Ogudoro as one of the most tactical officers of the command.

“We don’t want to believe that it was an accidental discharge, because, in the Civil Defence Corps, we don’t believe in accidental discharge, this is because the suspect is one of our senior officers,” he added.

The PUNCH gathered that the suspect who was not directly attached to the deceased had allegedly shot the deceased at a party recently organised in the state.

Ibrahim said, “The shooting of the deceased was not intentional as people had it. He had already released a shot in the air to scare people but on coming down with the riffle, somebody from crowd mistakenly hit him at the shoulder and the bullet pulled out.”

He prayed for the repose of Emenike’s soul just as he implored God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the great loss.

He said “When I got wind of the incident at Isiala Mbano, I called the Commandant General, who quickly ordered that the suspect should be arrested. As I speak, he was immediately arrested and detained in the police cell”.

He also said that the full weight of the law would prevail adding that the corps had issued the suspect a query, through in detention.

“All security agencies will align with the Police and Corps to give a thorough investigation on the immediate and remote causes of the shooting of the deceased,” he added.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State command, has arrested one Ezennia Onyeka for allegedly operating illegal Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration centre in Nnewi.
The state Commandant of the corps, Mr David Bille, confirmed the arrest in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday.
Bille said the suspect was arrested in Nnewi, following intelligence report that he was registering JAMB candidates at the cost of between N5,000 and N7,000 each.
Bille said that many unsuspecting candidates had fallen victim to the fraud at the centre, known as 100 Per Cent Computer Center.
He said: “The suspect was charging the unsuspecting candidates above the official N4,700 stipulated by JAMB.
“After careful and discrete investigation carried out by men of NSCDC, it was uncovered that the cyber cafe being operated by the suspect was not in the list of centres accredited by JAMB to sell its forms.’’
Bille said that the NSCDC operatives, who arrested the suspect, disguised themselves as prospective JAMB candidates.
“The operatives observed that the suspect was exploiting innocent and young Nigerians seeking for brighter future.
Bille said that the suspect admitted the offence and pleaded for forgiveness with a promise to turn over a new leaf.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State has arrested a 41-year-old father for allegedly hanging his 10-year-old daughter to the ceiling over theft of N3,000.

The Oyo State NSCDC Commandant, Iskilu Akinsanya, who disclosed this on Monday in Ibadan, said the victim’s step mother was also arrested.

Akinsanya, who paraded the suspects, alleged that the father of the victim and his wife jointly tied her to the ceiling and set fire underneath her until she confessed to the theft.

The commandant said that the Anti-human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit of the corps arrested the suspects at Olupo in Amuloko area of Ibadan.

He said that the victim allegedly stole N3, 000 belonging to one Rukayat Trimisiyu out of which N600 was found in her bag.

“It was gathered that the victim later brought the remaining N2, 400 from where it was hidden in the house.

“The victim is currently at the hospital receiving treatment as a result of the injury caused by the fire,’’ Akinsanya said.

The commandant called on parents and others who engage in such acts to desist from taking laws into their hands, adding that NSCDC would not condone any resort to sell help.

He said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation was completed.

Speaking with newsmen, the father of the victim said that his intention was to scare her into confessing to the theft and not harm her.

He described himself as a caring parent, adding that he did not know that the fire would burn the victim.

The suspect, who said that he and the mother of the victim had separated three years ago, pleaded for leniency.

The stepmother of the victim, however, claimed that she did not participate in torturing the victim. (NAN)

  • NSCDC, JAMB partner to check illegal CBT centers, extortion in Akwa Ibom

NSCDC, JAMB partner to check illegal CBT centers, extortion in Akwa Ibom

Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has agreed to partner the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Akwa Ibom to ensure that no illegal CBT centre is allowed to operate in the state. State Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Adeyinka Ayinla, said this when he visited the State Coordinator of JAMB, Mr. Oboh Joseph in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. Ayinla said that intelligence reports have revealed that some CBT centres charged candidates more than the N4000 registration fees stipulated by JAMB and assured candidates that the Corps would collaborate with JAMB to ensure that candidates were not unduly shortchanged. He said, “The issue of extortion of JAMB candidates is becoming too rampant in the country. JAMB is collecting N4000 for form but some organizations will charge candidates N6000 this has to stop. “We must enforce compliance that candidates pay only N4000 as stipulated by JAMB. All illegal CBT centres must stop all this activity. “All these touts, illegal CBT centres in the state must be closed immediately. We don’t want that to continue. We will be going round CBT centres to enforce compliance. “We have to be on surveillance, you may not identify us because we may not put on this uniform. Every day, you will be getting reports, I can assure you. “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps under the leadership of the Commandant General, we are ready to partner with you to enforce compliance.’’ In his remarks, the State Coordinator of JAMB, Mr. Oboh Joseph, commended the NSCDC for their doggedness, resilience, and commitment to maintaining the image of the Corps as according to him, personnel posted to work with him in JAMB office have shown competence worthy of commendation. He confirmed that some CBT centres were actually charging above JAMB stipulated registration fees of N4000, stressing that the Board was doing everything possible to ensure that candidates were not being overcharged. The state coordinator disclosed that only 13 approved CBT centres were in the state, stressing that the number was grossly inadequate for the state and appealed to the state government to create more CBT centres to accommodate the candidates applying for JAMB in the state. He said, “In Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, Ikot Asurua, they can create three centres also. If the government has up to nine centres then the private centres can now support. Not private taking the lead. “The State Government has the capacity to set up adequate CBT centres across the state. All state-owned educational institutions should set up CBT centres. It will not be good for Akwa Ibom candidates to register here and write their examinations outside the state. ”We have 13 approved CBT registration centres in Akwa Ibom State. The CBT centres we have in the state are grossly inadequate because we have discovered that after registration, some candidates might be posted to another state. “If the state government can come up, they should come up and create more centres. Like Ibom E-Library, they should create up to three centers there.’’ He urged candidates to avail themselves of the opportunity given to them by doing their registration in the JAMB office nearest to them.
