Why Nigeria’s Next President Won’t Deliver Immediate Results – Ezekwesili

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili has charged presidential candidates to tell Nigerians the truth about the state of the nation, instead of promising immediate results.

Ezekwesili, who spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm said regardless of who emerges president next year, immediate results may not be achieved in four years, because of the level of decay in the system.

“Candidates who are running for elections must the tell electorate the bitter truth. The bitter truth is that the country is not in a place for any President to immediately deliver results.

“What matters is that you have a President who understands the problems that need to be solved and has an idea of how to go about solving it.

“Any candidate who is promising instant results after the 2023 elections is not being fair to you. So, it is important that we understand that citizens must be ready for the work ahead because it is going to require everybody working together to make this happen.”

The 2023 general elections begin with the presidential and National Assembly polls on February 25.

2023: Why I’ll Vote Peter Obi Ahead of Atiku, Tinubu– Oby Ezekwesili

Former Minister of Education, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili has said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi scores highest in the rating among the top two candidates in the 2023 presidential race and she will vote for him ahead of others.

Ezekwesili said this during Channels Television Hard Copy programme, adding that Obi and the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party – Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar respectively can easily be rated.

The former Vice President for the African Region of the World Bank said the top three candidates can easily be rated with public information available and having done her ratings, Obi is ahead of two other contestants.

“To the specific issue of a presidential candidacy, what I said and which I repeat everywhere that I am asked is that I look at the other two candidates and I rate them immediately on the basis of what we know, and for the three candidates there is publicly available information with which to do the rating.

“So after I have done my rating, there is absolutely no way I would leave a Peter Obi and vote for any of the other two candidates,” Ezekwesili said.

2023: Ezekwesili endorses Peter Obi for Presidency

A former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili says the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections is a better option than the other two frontliners- Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.

She however noted that the trio are from the same political class.

Mrs Ezekwesili, in an interview with Channels TV Sunday night, said Nigerians  are “served badly as a country in terms of political class,” while endorsing Mr Obi as a better candidate.

“Somebody says to you between a cast of possible presidents that include the three frontrunners that we currently have – a possible President Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi – do you need anybody to tell you where you would be going? It would be an Obi.

“Regardless of the fact that he comes from that particular political class that we are talking about, he still at least represents many more shapes than the other two top candidates (Atiku and Tinubu),” Mrs Ezekwesili said.

Mr Obi, a former Anambra governor, has been punching above his political weight since acquiring the ticket of the Labour. Many youths dissatisfied with the status quo have provided oxygen upon which his campaign is running, much to the discomfort of veteran politicians, Messrs Tinubu and Abubakar.

The LP presidential candidate is campaigning on making Nigeria a producing country, cutting cost of governance, among others, if elected.

Why I Picked Ezekwesili As Head Of Transition Committee – Soludo

Prof. Charles Soludo, governor -elect of Anambra State, has given the reason why he chose Dr. Oby Ezekwesili as chairman of his transition committee.

Soludo’s media convener, and former lawmaker at the Anambra House of Assembly, Hon. Pauly Onyeka, said Soludo made Ezekwesili the chairman of his governorship transition committee because of her bravery and integrity.

Onyeka said Ezekwesili’s bravery and ability to call a spade a spade will help her to put on the table any issue that may arise from the outgoing government and the incoming government.

“Oby Ezekwesili is somebody that every body knows is very hard working, even if she associates with any political party, she still remains non partisan in character.”

“I think her appointment or the choice of her is a very wonderful one. She is someone who is knowledgeable about issues of government and governance in Nigeria. She knows how to go about the job, and she is someone that will call a spade a spade. She is brave, so I think her appointment is very good.

“Even though we are transiting from one government to the other, and even though it is from same political party, if there are issues that need to be ironed out, and in ironing out those issues, she and her committee, if they find out what will help Anambra move forward, I believe she has the courage to put it on the table and have it ironed out, without minding if anyone would be offended or not,” he said.

She said the President and his government should not be congratulated over the release of the schoolboys after six days in captivity.

Recall that the abduction occurred some hours after the President arrived in Daura, Katsina on December 11 for a week-long private visit.

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, however, announced on Thursday that 344 schoolboys were released by bandits in Zamfara State.

Reacting to this, Ezekwesili said Buhari should be disgusted with what happened.

She said, “For us to congratulate a government that created a problem and said it solved it? We shouldn’t be doing that. The society should learn how to hold people accountable.

The President should be disgusted with what happened, not commending himself. What is he clapping for? Those children were put in harm’s way. And now he said he’s rescued them? Maybe the President sent the children on an excursion to terrorists so they can release children at will to him.

“He needs to tell us exactly what happened with the Kankara kids. There is a problem. This country should not be taken for a ride by President Buhari and his government.

”This is very unbecoming and the whole world is laughing at us. They think we are jokers. Many countries didn’t even bother to show that anything had happened in our country because they felt who are these people and what are they doing to themselves?”

Oby Ezekwesili starts online campaign for Buhari to undergo mental test

Former Presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili has started an online campaign for President Buhari to undergo a physical and mental test.

According to the former Minister of Education, she began the online campaign for an independent medical examination of President Buhari because the country’s conditions had become too grave for Nigerians to sit still and watch.

    Oby Ezekwesili who shared this in series of tweets wrote;

I think that at this stage and depth of fragility of the Nigeria-State, Privacy has to yield ground to our Right-to-know as citizens, the state of health of @MBuhari. We really must assess the physical or mental capability of @NGRPresident to carry on the duties of office.

Citizens can collectively push for an Independent Panel to help us make the critical medical determination of the state of mind and body of our President, @MBuhari. The conditions of Nigeria have become too grave for us all to sit still and watch a train wreck in the making.

As an extremely concerned citizen, I hereby demand for a #MedicalPanelOnBuhari since we obviously cannot trust the State House Physician to provide us accurate information. It is reasonable demand now for citizens to have full disclosure on the state of health of@MBuhari
