    Gas Explosion Kills Three In Ogun Community

    A gas explosion has killed three persons in the Igbore area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

    The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident which occurred on Wednesday.

    He added that four other persons sustained injuries from the explosion which occurred in the state capital.

    According to an eyewitness, the fire outbreak was caused by the leakage of the hose used in passing refrigerant fluid into a freezer.

    Following the leakage, a fire was said to have broken out as a result of a naked fire from another gas cylinder used to fry fish after which emergency responders arrived at the scene.

    The seven injured persons who sustained various degrees of burns were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, by a combined team of men of the fire service and other security agencies.

    On the other hand, two female victims – a woman and her daughter – and a male lost their lives to the incident.

    TRACE authorities condoled with the families of the late victims and advised residents to be more careful and exercise caution.

    They also appealed to them to control how they use gas cylinders, especially when a naked fire was involved.

    The quarter finials of the ongoing Ramat cup organized by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) holding in Kano will hold on Wednesday.
    Gombe,Ogun and Bauchi zoomed into the quarter finials on Tuesday as Gombe defeated their FCT counterpart 2-0 in the last group stage to book their ticket,Ogun who were beaten by Kano 1-2,  took the second ticket in group A to proceed to the quarter finial stage.
    Other qualifiers are Kebbi,Oyo,Sokoto,Kwara and Kano states. Though Kwara lost to Gombe 0-1 in one of the matches played in group B they still qualified with the six points they garnered from the two games won earlier,Sokoto were 2-1 better in their game against Lagos,Oyo picked the leading ticket in their group D though they lost their last match against Osun 1-3. Kebbi defeated Ekiti state 3-0 to pick their ticket.
    In the quarter finial pairings, defending champions Kwara will take on Kano, , Gombe will battle it out again Ogun,Oyo will trade tackles with Sokoto just as it will be a northern affair when Bauchi state  squares up against Kebbi at the pillars stadium in the ancient city of Kano.
    Meanwhile, YSFON’s President, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said  that the body was impressed with the way the players and officials have conducted themselves and was optimistic, the game will end without any hitch.
    Gawuna noted that the development of the youths through sports will remain the focal point of the federation in its collective efforts to help the game in the country.
    Also speaking the National organizing secretary, coach Abdullrazaq Usman said the body will continue to support the efforts of the Nigeria Football Federation in developing the youths in football in the country.
    Usman said with YSFON’s national teams, the federation will not relent in supplying to the national team quality players who can’t impart on the success story of the country’s teams.
    He said that the quarter finals was moved to Pillars stadium to enable the players have a feel of the playing ground as a learning process.
    He commended Kano State government for its continued support for the federation in organising the competition.

    EFCC Arrests 57 Internet Fraud Suspects, Recovers Two Pump Action Rifles in Ogun

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Office on Friday, March 12, 2021 arrested fifty seven suspected internet fraudsters at their hotel hideouts and recovered two pump action rifles.

    The suspects were arrested in Yewa Frontier Hotel & Resort, Ellysam Hotel & Suits, April Suits and IBD International Hotels, all in Ilaro, Ogun State.

    The operation followed actionable intelligence linking them to alleged fraudulent activities, ranging from love scam on numerous dating sites, obtaining money by false pretenses and other cybercrimes.

    Four exotic cars, mobile phones, laptops, two rifles and several incriminating documents were recovered from the suspects. 

    The suspects include: Olatunji Opeyemi, Akintunde Michael Oluwashola, Babatunde Gbolahan, Emmanuel Oluwadamliare, Ogundare Adewunmi, Popoola Salmon, Adebayo Toheed Olamilekan, Bakare Kudus, Michael Moyosoro, Olatunji Tosin, Ishola Wasiu, Ugwu Ekenedelichukwu David, Salaudeen Roqueb, Obafunmilayo David, Jimoh Fatai Abiodun, Idowu Adeola,Oladipupo Nurudeen, Olasoju Mohammed, Onipede Toheed, Bello Abdullahi, Olatunji Abiola, Ogunbayo Peter, Adeyemi Abraham Ismail, Toheed Oluwaseun, Abiola Mutiu, Shoneye Idowu, Badmus Farouk kayode, Ilyas Abubakri Olanrewaju, Oladeji Basit Babatunde and Ijiola Soliu Adewole.

    They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

  • Governor Dapo Abiodun receives Covid-19 Vaccine, charges Ogun residents

    The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has received a jab of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

    The Governor had earlier announced that Ogun State is the first state in Nigeria to receive a consignment of the vaccines.

    The Governor tweeted on Monday “Taking delivery of AstraZeneca #COVID19 Vaccines in my office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Our dear State is the first in the Federation to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine consignment,”.

    50,000 doses of the vaccines were received by the state with another batch of the same amount expected to arrive in the state by Tuesday.
    Sharing a video on Twitter showing him taking a jab, Abiodun said, “I just had my dose of the Astra-Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The doses were delivered today in Abeokuta. It is first service to self then people, when we take the vaccine because we must silence the virus.”

    He advised people not to see the arrival of the vaccines as an opportunity to throw away their face masks.

    Abiodun said, “We will commence vaccination in line with the scheduled guidelines laid down by NPHCDA. They have identified particular state hospitals, general hospitals, primary health care centres across the state that would be used for this vaccination”.

     

    “I am sure you are aware that there is a portal that already exists and there is a link that allows you to register or preregister and identify your local government so it can as close to the available centre as possible”.

    “We will be prioritising our front line health workers, our elders and we go down the line as stipulated by NPHCDA”.

    “Definitely, we are beginning to see the end of this pandemic that has disrupted our lives like we have never anticipated in the last 13 months.

    “But this is not an opportunity to throw our masks away. This vaccine that we are getting, the protocol is that we get the first shot and then we get the booster shots and it is not until we get that booster shots that we have the required level of immunity”.

    “Even at that, what science tells us is that it is meant to reduce the severity of disease so the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines will still continue to obtain.”

    Ogun Deputy Speaker, Oludare Kadiri Impeached

    The Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludare Kadiri has been impeached.

    A five-member committee set up by the House impeached Hon. Kadiri over an alleged public disturbance which he was found guilty.

    Hon Kadiri was on February 26, arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for an alleged assault after he reportedly led suspected hoodlums to invade the residence of the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, in Oru-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state during the revalidation exercise of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

    He was removed after the report by the five-member committee recommended him for impeachment, he was found guilty of the allegations levelled against him 18 out of the 26  lawmakers adopted for his removal.

    The Deputy Speaker represented Ijebu-North at the State Assembly.

    25 suspected cultists arrested during initiation ceremony in Ogun

    Ogun State Police Command has arrested 25 suspected members of the Buccaneer cult group during an initiation ceremony in Abeokuta.

    The suspects were among 59 others paraded on Wednesday, for rape, kidnapping, murder, armed robbery, fraud, among others.

    Parading the suspects before journalists at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, disclosed that the suspects were arrested along with three herbalists, who conducted the initiation. 

    The commissioner said the cultists were arrested following intelligence reports, that some cultists were planning to unleash mayhem on members of the public, after conducting an initiation rite for new members in Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta. 

    Items recovered from the suspects include battle axes, cutlasses, weed, suspected to be Indian hemp, and costumes of their group.

    Also paraded were three murder suspects Ugo Obi, Chinozo Jude and Chibuike Samson, arrested for allegedly beating a 23-year-old man, Samuel Ajibade, to death over alleged theft of two mobile phones belonging to one of them.

    I’m coming for killer herdsmen in Ogun – Sunday Igboho

    Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho has announced that he will be going after killer herdsmen in Ogun state.

    The activist who said that God wanted to liberate Ibarapa people of Oyo state from the captivity of herdsmen when he went there, told newsmen that he has heard about the criminal activities of herdsmen in Ogun state.

    Igboho said;

    “What many people do not know about this whole issue is that it was God that wanted to liberate Ibarapa people from the captivity of herdsmen that I went there.

    “The suffering that the people of Ibarapa were going through was brought to the fore by the death of Dr. Aborode, Aborode. it exposed a lot of things going on in that area.

    “Many who have been killed and kidnapped there are not small. We however thank God that normalcy has been restored gradually.

    “By the grace of God, the remaining issues in Ogun state will be resolved, all criminal herdsmen in Ogun state should get prepared I am coming.”

    He also accused politicians of trying to discourage the struggle despite his genuine intentions.

    Igboho added;

    “I am more than what anybody can bribe or win over with money. I do not have any children in Nigeria that herdsmen can kidnap and no herdsmen can stop me on the way.

    “Enough is enough, that is why I’m fighting this struggle. On this struggle, no going back.”

    Three Arrested for Allegedly Beating Up Man To Death – Police

    The police in Ogun have arrested three men accused of beating a 23-years-old boy to death over an alleged phone theft.

    Three suspects who are all residents of Iju Ota were arrested after the father of the victim, Mr Ajibade Gbenga, rushed to the Onipanu Divisional Headquarters of the police to report that his son, Samuel, had been accused of stealing two mobile phones and beaten to death.

    According to the man, the suspects beat Samuel up till he lost consciousness after accusing him of stealing the phones. The young man was rushed to the General Hospital in Ota for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by a doctor.

    In a statement on Sunday, the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said after the complaint, the Chief Superintendent of Police in the division, Bamidele Job, led his detectives to the scene and arrested the three suspects.

    According to the police spokesperson, if not for the intervention of the police, an angry crowd would have lynched the three suspects after realising that the young man was dead.

    An investigation has been started by the police after which those charged will be prosecuted.

    “The Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo-Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” Oyeyemi said.

    He added that the police commissioner warned that the command will not tolerate any form of jungle justice in the state.

    Rather than take laws into their hands, he urged members of the public to always report anyone suspected to have committed a crime to the law enforcement agency for proper investigation and prosecution.

    Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased has been moved to the General Hospital’s mortuary for post mortem examination.

    One feared dead, scores of cars burnt as tanker explodes in Ogun

    One person was feared dead while scores of vehicles got burnt in a tanker explosion that occurred in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

    The incident occurred around 8:15 am on Tuesday on the Presidential Boulevard Road around Guarantee Trust Bank opposite Lawson Group School, Kuto, Abeokuta.

    The explosion, which reportedly involved a 33,000-fuel laden tanker, happened due to a break failure.

    Our correspondent, who was at the motor park close to the scene observed that the tanker which was coming from Sagamu-Siun-Oke-Mosan Road climbed the overhead bridge but suddenly lost control while descending from the bridge .

    The tanker hit a motorcycle which was in motion and rammed into some commercial vehicles waiting for passengers at the end of the bridge.

    Shortly after it rammed into the scores of the vehicles, it exploded.

    The fire which spread to a few offices around the place caused panic as many motorists started making reverse to avoid being caught up in the explosion.

    There was anxiety over the fate of some pupils who were in the vehicles around the place and in the school premises opposite the scene of explosion.

    As of the time of filing this report, some officials of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps were seen at the scene controlling the traffic.

    Officials of the fire services were still being expected at the scene.

    Edo Jail Break: Suspected Prisoner Arrested In Ogun

    The police authorities in Ogun State have arrested a suspected prisoner, Frank Ogbe, who allegedly escaped from the White House Prison Yard in Edo State during the #EndSARS protest.

    In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspected prisoner was arrested prisoner following a tip-off.

    According to the police spokesman, policemen at Agbado Divisional Headquarters received information that a middle-aged man was seen around Angulis area of Agbado, adding that his look and conduct was suspicious.

    “Upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Agbado division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, detailed his detectives to the area where the man was apprehended,” Oyeyemi said.

    “He was properly interrogated and confessed to the detectives that he was an inmate of white house prison in Edo State and that he was set free by hoodlums who attacked the prison yard during the #EndSARS protest.”

    The policePPRO said the suspect confessed that he relocated to the Agbado area in order to avoid being re-arrested.

    Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police,Edward Ajogun has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further profiling.
