BREAKING: APC expels Adamu, party chairman who wished Osinbajo replaced Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled a chieftain, Sulaiman Adamu for saying he wished Vice President Yemi Osinbajo replaced President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adamu was the Caretaker Chairman of the party in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

A statement on Thursday by John Akpan Udoedehe, APC National Secretary said the expulsion takes immediate effect.

The scribe said it was part of the resolutions reached at the 16th meeting of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) held at the National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

He disclosed that the party received and deliberated on the report of Adamu’s infractions and recommendations of the 7-member disciplinary committee set up by the Adamawa State Working Committee.

The APC condemned Adamu for making “unwholesome utterances on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Leader of the Party”.

“He was also found guilty of bringing the image of the party to disrepute thereby creating doubt on his leadership quality and loyalty to the party.”

The CECPC told members to always demonstrate and restraint and desist from acts and utterances that are inimical to the interest of the ruling platform.

In August, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) grilled former Adamawa Governor Jibrilla Bindow over comments against Buhari.

Bindow, defeated by former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Governor Bala Mohammed of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had convened a meeting of his allies.

It was part of consultations as he prepares to join the 2023 governorship race.

The parley was attended by Adamu, ex-Adamawa Speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa; ex-Administrator, Yola West Development Area, Abubakar Sirimbai; ex-Commissioner, Aliyu Mustapha, and ex-adviser, Yusha’u Adamu.

In a leaked audio, Adamu attacked Buhari for his leadership, complaining bitterly about the state of the country and the party.

“Even Buhari himself, what is his impact on the party? Of what value is he to us? How I wish he had contracted coronavirus, so that Osinbajo would take over”, Adamu had said in Fulfulde.

Insecurity: Nigeria can’t afford Another Civil War – Osinbajo

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has said that Nigeria cannot afford another civil war because it will not augur well for the country.
Osinbajo said this at an interactive forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Anambra governorship aspirants organised by the State chapter of the APC Patriots in Abuja.

“The thing about the kind of conflict in this part of the world, developing countries, is that it is usually a war without end.

“Everyone who thinks he has some money stored up somewhere will eventually run out of money.

“Everyone who thinks he can go and hide somewhere won’t even find a place to hide, at the end, everyone will suffer.

“Even if you don’t suffer, parents, children, young and old people and relations will suffer. We cannot afford a war in this country, we can`t afford it,’’ he said.

Osinbajo said the political elite must rise up to the challenge by speaking the truth and taking actions to address the situation in the country.

“I pray that our country will never know conflict, but I know that every conflict is a result of elite failure to speak up the truth and tell the truth to their communities.

“At the end of the day, it is the political elite that determines what happens in every society, keeping quiet could lead to a more dangerous situation,” he said.

The Vice President said that the elite could make a great difference just by the words they speak.

“If we don`t speak up against disunity, if we keep quiet and remain under the radar, the enemies of peace and those who want to promote disunity will have their ways.

“And when this happens, we will find ourselves running helter-skelter,’’ Osinbajo said.

He, therefore, urged political elites in the country to always speak up and stand for the interest of the country and the general public.

  • Nigeria’s Security Architecture Is Being Reorganised, Says Osinbajo

Nigeria’s Security Architecture Is Being Reorganised, Says Osinbajo

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that the Federal Government is reorganising the nation’s security architecture, believing that Nigeria is able to overcome its current security challenges.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this Monday when he received a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, His Royal Majesty, Yakanaje Uke, (in Nasarawa State), Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Abdullahi Hassan.

He said, “There is no question at all that we are facing security challenges, but we are able to overcome them. The role of the leadership is to sit down to think through the problems.

“This is a big country, so policing is very difficult. There is a need for us to reorganize our security architecture, which is what is going on now.”

The Vice President assured that the present challenges will prepare Nigeria for a greater and prosperous future, urging the traditional institution to support the re-engineering process.

“I believe strongly that the reason why we are experiencing what we are going through today is that we are being prepared for the future.

“A future where we will take into account all of the problems because if we haven’t gone through the problems we are going through now, it will be difficult for us to appreciate the importance of fairness and justice, the importance of giving people a voice and a representation. I am very pleased to hear about what you are doing.”

He explained that “one of the reasons why we have some of the divisions and conflicts in the parts of the country is because people do not feel included in the management of affairs in their localities.”

Commending the Yakanaje for his leadership style, the Vice President said “I think you have created an opportunity where the options are available for bringing appeals to a center of fairness and justice for people from across the country, and its one that is to be emulated.

“And I think that this is the way Nigeria should be. We should be able to say that no matter where you are from if you have the talent if you work hard, you will succeed wherever you are. You will not be constrained by your political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.”

“Every great society that has succeeded in the world is multiethnic and they succeeded because they brought in talents from all over the place,” the Vice President added.

The Vice President urged traditional rulers to leverage the influence they have over communities to effect positive change for the good of the entire society.

Prof. Osinbajo explained that “it is sometimes very easy to underestimate the importance of the traditional institution. But the sheer size of the places where you superintend speaks volumes about the potential of our traditional rulers.

On his part, the traditional ruler commended the Vice President for his ability to bring people of different ethnic groups in the country together. He said in his kingdom in Karu LGA of Nasarawa, “we are emulating your efforts, bringing ethnic groups in Nigeria together as one.”

Commending the efforts of the Emir in promoting unity and peaceful coexistence, the Vice President noted that “I have heard a lot about the work that is going on and particularly fascinating for me is the fact that you have somehow managed to bring together a representation of Nigeria into the management of the affairs of your kingdom.”

Continuing Prof. Osinbajo said, “this is very commendable and it is something that we must commend and see how it is replicated in other parts of the country.”

The paramount ruler appealed to the Federal Government to integrate the traditional institution in the implementation of some of its intervention schemes for small businesses and the less privileged.

He said traditional rulers are closer to the people and understand the issues and needs in the localities hence the need to be involved in the implementation of the schemes.

Also present at the meeting were the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Doguwa; the heir apparent to the throne, Prince Nurudeen Abdullahi, members of the Yakanaje Emirate Council and Kingdom; the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Sen. Babafemi Ojudu, among others.

Buhari Resumes, Receives Briefings From Osinbajo

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday resumed office after spending 16 days in the United Kingdom on medical vacation.

Upon his resumption on Monday, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo briefed the President on the state of the nation.

President Buhari left Nigeria on Tuesday, March 30, briefly after a security meeting with defense and intelligence chiefs, as well as other security sector managers.

He arrived in the country on April 15 via the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport from the United Kingdom where he went on medical vacation for two weeks.

Before his departure, the Presidency had explained that Buhari’s travel to the UK was not on an emergency case and that the Nigerian leader was not sick, dousing insinuations from critics who raised the alarm that the 78-year-old was not feeling well.

“It is a routine medical check-up; the President has undertaken this with a set of doctors that he has retained over many years,” said Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

He also explained that Buhari did not transmit power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, noting that the President will not be away for so long to contravene the law.

“The requirement of the law is that the President is going to be absent in the country for 21 days and more, then that transmission is warranted. In this particular instance, it is not warranted,” the presidential aide said when he featured as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Buhari’s departure was also widely criticised by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which described the move as an indictment of his government.

“It is indeed worrisome that under President Buhari, even the hitherto highly rated State House Clinic, has become so moribund that it cannot provide a simple medical checkup service for Mr. President,” the PDP said in a statement in which it also accused the Buhari government of wasting taxpayers’ money.
