    Four Police Officers Journey To Golgotha For An Alleged Extortion In Kogi

    The spoke person of the Kogi State Police Command, DSP William Ovye Aya, on Sunday evening said the Command has commenced investigation of four police officers who allegedly extorted money from passengers while on patrol duty.

    DSP William Aya, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Sunday and made available to newsmen.

    He stated that the Kogi State Police Command has commenced investigations into a trending video where Police personnel attached to Adogo Division, while on patrol duty along Adogo-Okene road, allegedly committed the offence.

    The statement further disclosed that the officers reportedly extorted the sum of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N25,000) from a traveller while another was physically assaulted by one of the men in uniform.

    “The officers are: ASP Isah Barnabas, Inspector Ifediegwu Godwin, Sgt Emmanuel Ochima and CPL Umameh Mathias who physically assaulted one of the travellers.”

    It was stated that ASP Barnabas has been issued with an official query while the three other junior officers are currently undergoing orderly room trial (Police internal disciplinary actions).

    “The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban while condemning the incident, noted that the Police officers have been identified and detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department.

    “The CP further noted that the Command is doing its best to establish contact with the victims, enjoining them to reach out to the Command as he assured that any of the officers found wanting in the investigations would be dealt with accordingly.

    The trigger-happy policeman who killed a young Keke Napep ride at Rukpokwu area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state, has been detained.

    LIB reported earlier that the policeman was accused of shooting the commercial tricyclist for refusing to give him N100 bribe in the early hours of today December 10.

    Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Nnamdi Omoni who confirmed the incident urged residents to remain calm as justice will be served on the incident. He added that policemen have been deployed to the area to restore calm and contain a further breakdown of law and order.

    Omoni said;

    “I am aware of the incident at Rukpoku. One of our men killed a Keke rider this morning. The policeman has been disarmed and he is detained now.

    “We have mobilised our men in the area to restore calm and contain a further breakdown of law and order.

    “We are pleading for calm to allow us to bring him to justice. Two wrongs can never make a wrong. The Keke driver has died and the man who killed him must receive his punishment.

    “Killing a policeman or burning down a station cannot bring him back to life or give him justice, instead it will deteriorate the situation.”

    Unknown gunmen on Thursday stormed Toru Orua, the country home residence of Hon. Seriake Dickson, the immediate past Bayelsa Governor and PDP Senatorial candidate for Bayelsa West in the December 5 bye-election.

    Confirming the incident, Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area Hon. Embeleakpo Alale disclosed that the unknown gunmen reportedly struck at about 2:00am Thursday, and engaged in heavy exchange of gun fire resulting in the death of a Police Inspector who tried to repel the assailants.

    The body of the slain Police officer has been deposited at a mortuary in Sagbama town.

    Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Command Police Public Relations Officer Asinim Butswat revealed that full scale investigation has been launched to uncover and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.

    Hoodlums behead, burnt Police officer to ashes in Anambra

    A police officer was beheaded and burnt to ashes by suspected hoodlums during the #ENDSARS protest in Anambra State on Thursday, October 22.

    Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed this in a statement while giving update on the attacks by hoodlums on police formations and other government facilities in the state, said three other officers sustained various degrees of injuries.

    “On the 22/10/2020 between 3:30am and 5:pm,the hoodlums in large number equally attacked Nnewi Area Command,3-3 Division,Ogbunike/ Isiuwulu, Ozubulu ,Nnobi,and Itchy Divisions as well as peoples club police post, burnt Police vehicles and set the facilities ablaze carting away exhibits kept at the Divisions,” said Mohammed.

    “One police officer was beheaded and burnt to ashes while three others sustained various degrees of injuries.The injured police officers were rushed to the hospital for medical attention and they are responding to treatment,” he added.

    The spokesman further disclosed hoodlums disguised as protesters on Wednesday, attacked Nnewi Police Station, set it ablaze and vandalised patrol vehicles and other exhibits.

    “On the 21/10/2020 at about 11:30pm hoodlums in large number under the guise of “END SARS”protesters attacked Nnewi Police Station,set it ablaze and vandalized patrol vehicles and other exhibits but were prevented from assessing the armoury to cart away arm due to strong resistance placed by police men on duty.” he stated.

    He said police operatives in collaboration with members of the communities comprising of youths,vigilante and Community leaders at Okpoko, CPS Awka, Oraifite,Otolo,Amichi and Oba vehemently resisted attempt by the hoodlums to attack the police Stations.

    However, five persons were attacked in Onitsha and taken to the hospital for medical attention where three have been confirmed dead by the medical doctor while two others are receiving treatment.

    Other government property burnt or destroyed includes High Court Ogidi,Idemili North LG Secretariat while Zik Statue at DMGS roundabout was vandalized. Arrest was equally made. 

    While ackowledging the contribution of the state governor, Willie Obiano, youths, community leaders and local vigilante groups for the overall successes recorded by the command, the Commissioner  of Police, John Abang urged the public to sustain this level of cooperation with the Police at all times especially during this trying period in order bring lasting peace in Anambra State.

    “The public are equally enjoined to report any distress through the Command emergency number 07039194332 for prompt action please.” the statement concludes.

    Nollywood actor, Aremu Afolayan and sensational singer, Tekno are of the opinion that the Federal government should increase the monthly salary of Nigerian police officers.

    According to Teckno, Police salaries should be increased to N250k/month. This way, they will do a good job and corruption will be limited.
