2023: Kwankwaso Debunks Rumors of Him Stepping Down for Atiku

With a few months to the February presidential election, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has reacted to insinuations that he stepped down from the race.

Kwankwaso said he has not stepped down for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

He disclosed this during a meeting with the Nigeria Guilds of Editors, NGE, in Lagos.

Kwankwaso explained that he would not have left PDP if he would step down for Atiku only a few months to the presidential election.

“Some people are saying that I am stepping down for Atiku; why then did I leave the party? These are the issues; you see the problem with that party was that there are so many people who believed that they are highly privileged.

“In a democracy, people are free to follow any political party, you cannot sit there and start dictating that I like this one, or you do not like the other one.”

The NNPP candidate said his ideology and experience is different from his opponents which can be traced back to when he was a governor in Kano State.

New Afenifere faction endorses Kwankwaso for presidency

A splinter group within the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has emerged.

Known as New Afenifere, leaders of the group met Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Lagos on Sunday and threw their weight behind him.

It was gathered that the division within the camp of Afenifere deepened after the group purportedly endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

But the Acting Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, is backing the candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.

In a twist to the division in the Pan-Yoruba group, the New Afenifere announced its support for Kwankwaso on Sunday.

The Coordinator of New Afenifere, Comrade Ajibade Adeyeye, stressed that his group chose to identify with the NNPP presidential candidate because of his track record.

“The new Afenifere hereby states that we are concerned socio political umbrella known as new Afenifere and I dare say we have decided to take our future into our hands to prepare for the upcoming 2023 election.”

“We have called on our elder statesmen not to impose on us anymore but to allow us to choose our preferred presidential candidate because we believe we are old enough to make decision for ourselves and for our future.

“So, on behalf of the New Afenifere, we have decided to forge ahead and endorse the candidature of senator, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with his running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa to see toward a new Nigeria.”

The NNPP presidential candidate who welcomed the endorsement promised to run an inclusive governance, stressing his party would salvage the country.

He said, “Let me on behalf of the members of our party thank the leadership of the New Afenifere, for finding us worthy of this endorsement. I am not surprised that these young men have decided to endorse us because even in Kano, North West, South, we have young men and women who are supporting this course.

“I believe NNPP is for the young people, world and everybody, so I want to thank you for the foresight and for doing the right thing and I want to assure you that our party will carry each and everyone along of you at national level, zone, state and even at grassroots.

“Everybody knows today where we are in this country, the challenges that we have really have to do with the type of leadership that we had right from 1999 till date and that is why we felt new ideas, new thinking must come in for us to change the status quo.

“The two parties have failed in our opinion. PDP was the first to fail, then we thought another progressive party in the name of APC will save this country but many people are of the opinion that even PDP was better than the APC because of where we found ourselves in term of security, economy, dilapidated infrastructure and so on.

“Our young men can not go to school, either because of the strike, insecurity or money to buy forms or to maintain themselves in schools but our party has come out to ensure that every child have access to education, not minding it economic status. I thank you for creating time, and I want to assure you that we will work together in the south west and in Nigeria.”

2023: Labour Party Still in Talk with Kwankwaso, Others For Possible Alliance, says Okupe

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Director General of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe has disclosed that the party is still in talks with the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso and others with a view to forming formidable alliance.

Earlier in the year, there were reports that Kwankwaso and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi were in talks for a possible alliance. The move, did not, however, materialise.

But Okupe said despite that, the LP is still looking to form an alliance with Kwankwaso and other parties.

“As a party, at our own campaign level, we are talking to SDP; we are talking to even Kwankwaso and his team again. We are talking to PRP and ADC,” he said on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, a prerecorded show aired on Friday.

“I believe and I trust that God will help us that between now and December, we would bring together that alignment politically in the country and the country would be better for it.”

According to him, the move is to ensure that “whoever wins is not just winning on a sole effort; we are winning with the cooperation of many of as many groups as possible”.

He also dismissed criticisms over Obi’s visits to some power brokers in the country, saying it was meant solely for “carrying everybody along” in the scheme of things.

“Somebody won an election in this country, he did not rule. He was loved by Nigerians but some stakeholders stopped that. We have to avoid that by carrying everybody along, “Okupe added.

“Even if they don’t agree with us initially, let them not oppose us; let them not see us as enemies. We are not enemies of anybody, a group, or any part of the country. We are just a sect of people who mean well for the country…”

“Mr. Peter Obi’s 8 percentage point lead at this early stage is significant, but not sufficient to separate him completely from a leading pack of candidates scoring 21%, 13%, and 13% respectively,” said a statement by Anap Foundation’s President and Founder, Mr Atedo Peterside, CON.

“Undecided voters and those who prefer not to reveal their preferred candidate add up to a whopping 32% and 15% respectively.

    15 September, 2022

Ahead of the forthcoming 2023 Presidential elections, a recent nationwide opinion poll commissioned by Anap Foundation and conducted by NOI Polls Limited was concluded in early September 2022. The Poll revealed a substantially close race between Mr. Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Running significantly behind the leading pack is Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who is the lone outsider i.e. a “dark horse” in the race. All other contestants polled results that are statistically insignificant.

The results showed a significant lead for Mr. Peter Obi with 21% of voters proposing to vote for him if the presidential election were to be conducted today; and 13% each proposing to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who are both tied in second place. Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso was a distant fourth with 3% of voters proposing to vote for him.

Mr. Peter Obi’s 8 percentage point lead at this early stage is significant, but not sufficient to separate him completely from a leading pack of candidates scoring 21%, 13% and 13% respectively.

Undecided voters and those who prefer not to reveal their preferred candidate add up to a whopping 32% and 15% respectively. The gender split of undecided voters shows that 39% of women are undecided versus 27% of male voters.

  • 2023: Shekarau Dumps Kwankwaso’s NNPP

    2023: Shekarau Dumps Kwankwaso’s NNPP

Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, a former Governor of Kano State, has confirmed his movement out of Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria People’s Party NNPP, although he has not in clear terms stated which party he is decamping to.

Shekarau while speaking to a crowd of supporters, Monday at the Kano Foundation office along BUK Road, accused Former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of not only betraying him but humiliating him.

The former governor who went down memory lane over what transpired between him and Kwankwaso during his brief stay in the NNPP noted with dismay that, he was alone, given forms to contest his Senatorial seat leaving his teaming supporters to wallow in destitution.

He said on 5th May 2022 long before he and Kwankwaso joined NNPP, “I personally met him at his country home and discussed extensively my decisions to follow him to his new party and he expressed deep happiness”.

“And still on 11-5-2022 I still met Kwankwaso because since our last meeting we were not able to meet, and I reminded him of a proposal I submitted to him during our last meeting”.

The proposal according to Shekarau was the list of my supporters who were seeking different political offices, and when I talked to Kwankwaso about it he said he was aware of it and definitely something would be done.

“Similarly, on 16-5-2022, Kwankwaso came to my house at about 9pm and we still discussed extensively the same issues he even called five people including Abba Kabir, Kawu Sumaila, Alhassan Rirum and two others and presented them to me as those to make the lists of contestants”.

“During the meeting which led to my decamping, Kwankwaso came with my Senatorial Form alone and sneaked it to me telling me that I was the first to receive it and I asked him the ones for my supporters he said it would be done”.

“Since then Kwankwaso kept deceiving me and only for him, to much later say we are late for my supporters to be on the lists, and there was nothing he could do”.

Shekarau said with all these and many more deceit he has no place in NNPP because his Party Politics always goes with his supporters and any attempt to throw them away would be vehemently rejected.

Don’t Be In A Hurry To Impeach Buhari, Kwankwaso Tells NASS

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has urged members of the National Assembly not to be in a hurry to impeach President Muhmmadu Buhari.

The minority caucus of the National Assembly earlier this week resolved to begin impeachment proceedings against the President in six weeks if the country’s security situation does not improve.

But speaking during a courtesy call on the Kwara State Governor in Illorin, Kwankwaso urged the lawmakers not to rock the boat.

“I don’t know the facts that they have. But as their former colleague, I want them to tread very softly,” he said.

“They should not be in a hurry to rock the boat. Yes, I know they have reasons to be worried – I am sure everybody in this country is worried about insecurity; because some of these things could happen to anybody – even the presidential fleet was attacked in Katsina State. So, I think we need to do more.”

He said the military is capable of winning the war against insurgency but advocated for wide consultation irrespective of political differences.

On his part, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, called for understanding and collaboration between politicians to bring about development to the country.

  • Stop Linking Us with Peter Obi, He’s not One of Us – IPOB warns Kwankwaso

Stop Linking Us with Peter Obi, He’s not One of Us – IPOB warns Kwankwaso

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Tuesday, cautioned the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, against linking its struggle with the presidential ambition of the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

IPOB said Obi is not one of its members and has never supported the agitation for self-determination; hence Kwankwaso should desist from such connections.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman of IPOB, said the group is not interested in the process of Nigerian elections.

A statement by Powerful reads: “The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the command and leadership of our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to advise the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwoso not to involve IPOB in the selection process they call an election in Nigeria.

“The Nigerian politicians generally and Kwankwaso, in particular, should desist from linking IPOB with Peter Obi’s political ambition and campaign. Peter Obi is not an IPOB member, and never supported our agitation for freedom at any time because he pursues a totally different goal from that of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). We have no interest in the Nigerian morally decadent and fantastically corrupt political system and landscape.

“If Kwankwaso is threatened by the Labour party & Peter Obi’s teeming support by the creative and talented but downtrodden, neglected, deceived, deprived, killed (Endsars) Nigerian youths from even the North which your generation does not have any good intentions for, then he should go forward and settle his differences and stop linking IPOB to their problem.

“IPOB is not interested in the worthless politics you play in Nigeria, we don’t regard such daylight robbery, fraud, manipulation and selection as election. Maybe there is something Kwankwaso is not telling the world. Instead of saying the truth that because he is Fulani with the (born to rule mentality), he cannot play second fiddle to a Southern Christian presidential candidate, he has the temerity to associate our hallowed liberation movement with the shameless murky waters of the Zoo politics.

“IPOB is not concerned with the waves of this election; we have never asked for nor said anything contrary to our goal and demand. What we need is a referendum, and a referendum we must have. There are no middle ways for us as a people as far as our liberty and freedom is concerned. There is, therefore, nothing anybody can do to change our resolve towards our stated goal, which is the restoration of Biafra.

“If there is a region to avoid due to criminality with Terrorism, it is Northern Nigeria which sponsors several terrorist groups as joint venture partners and recycles them in the military and ministries, you should feel non – Northerners’ pulses when they helplessly tag along with you guys to ascertain the sensitivity of their irritations and pounding of hearts in silent prayers for safety.”

Powerful reiterated IPOB’s agitation for a referendum in the Southeast as stipulated by the United Nations, UN.

“Peter Obi is not a member of IPOB and he is neither agitating or in support of our Self Determination struggle. Why associate him with IPOB’s struggle for freedom. IPOB does not know who Peter Obi is going by our biodata bank. Our demand is our inalienable rights to self-determination and this we seek through a universally recognised and accepted political process called *REFERENDUM* as stipulated by the United Nations Charter.

“IPOB wish to use this medium and opportunity to warn every politician in Nigeria to desist from linking IPOB with their politics and selection process because we are not politicians and have no common interest. We are freedom fighters,” he added.

  • 2023 Presidency: Why I Cannot Be Running Mate To Peter Obi – Kwankwaso

2023 Presidency: Why I Cannot Be Running Mate To Peter Obi – Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained why he cannot be a running mate to a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, in the forthcoming presidential election.

Both men are in the race to become the next president when President Muhammadu Buhari completes his second term in office in May 2023.

While Kwankwaso is the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Obi will fly the flag of the Labour Party in the poll.

Amid calls for the duo to form an alliance as an alternative for Nigerians besides the two major political parties – All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former Kano governor wants his Anambra counterpart to accept to be his running mate.

“The northerner voters have made up their minds on what to do; certainly NNPP, nobody can change it,” he said during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics where he was asked who the people of the North would vote for.

Although Kwankwaso said he would not mind the opportunity to become a vice president since he has no job at the moment, he explained the rationale behind contesting the presidential election and a candidate and not a running mate to a south-easterner.

“Unfortunately, there are many issues in the South East, and a northern voter is the worst-hit in this issue of maladministration in this country,” he asserted. “But even under that circumstance, a northern voter also believes that he is better with one united Nigeria.

“Therefore, most of the things that are happening in the South, especially in the South East; people are not comfortable with that and as long as you have somebody from there in any party, it will be very difficult for the northern voters to vote, and that’s the situation now.”
