    Tinubu Applauds Ray Ekpu, Co-Founder of Iconic Newswatch Magazine, on His 75th Birthday

    Ray Ekpu, one of the original founders of the renowned Newswatch magazine, celebrated his 75th birthday yesterday, garnering praise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for leading a life of purpose.

    In a birthday tribute conveyed by his media and publicity Special Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, the President lauded Ray Ekpu as a veteran journalist and esteemed columnist. He underscored Ekpu’s unwavering dedication to the pursuit of freedom, democracy, and the establishment of effective governance in Nigeria.

    “On the momentous occasion of Mr. Ray Ekpu’s 75th birthday, I stand together with friends, family, and admirers of this veteran journalist and esteemed columnist to honor his purpose-driven life,” remarked the President.

    Having dedicated more than five decades to the Nigerian media landscape, Ekpu’s commitment to progressive ideals remains steadfast. President Tinubu highlighted Ekpu’s substantial impact, noting, “His written words have served as a candid, analytical, and enthralling commentary, characterized by his eloquent prose.”

    “On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to this journalistic luminary as he marks his 75th birthday,” conveyed President Tinubu, acknowledging Ekpu’s significant contributions to the realm of journalism and society as a whole.

    Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has commended celebrated journalist, Mr Ray Ekpu for his contributions to the growth of democracy and journalism in Nigeria.

    In a statement to celebrate Ekpu’s 75th birthday, the Governor described him as an iconic public intellectual and Akwa Ibom’s gift to the journalism world.

    The message which was issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh on Sunday in Uyo saluted the renowned journalist for, “all you have done to advance the practice of journalism in Nigeria; your huge contributions in advocating the issues and ideals of good governance, and your abiding love for your dear State and our capacity to ARISE and be the “Shining City Upon the Hill.

    “On this occasion of your 75th Birthday, we wish you continuous good health, a sound mind and immeasurable and unquantifiable blessings from the Almighty God.”

    Ekpu, who has edited many renowned magazines and has used his writing skills to advance the cause of democracy, good governance and human rights in Nigeria was born in Ukanafun Local Council of Akwa Ibom.
