    Gov Wike Direct Schools in Rivers To Reopen On Monday

    The Rivers State government has directed private and public schools in the state to reopen on Monday.

    This was announced by the Permanent Secretary at the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Chidi Adiele, in a statement on Sunday.

    According to Adiele, all schools in Rivers are to resume academic activities on January 4 for the completion of the first term academic session.

    He explained that the directive was issued with the approval of the state governor, Nyesom Wike, in line with the school calendar published in August 2020.

    The government, however, warned the schools to maintain all COVID-19 protocols, including the wearing of face masks and the use of hand sanitisers.

    It also asked them to introduce staggered classes for morning and afternoon in order to avoid overcrowding of the schools.

    Houses burnt in Rivers as cultists engage in supremacy war – Police

    The police have arrested a suspected cultist following a clash by rival groups at the Mile one market axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

    The police further said that about two houses were burnt during the clash that created panic among traders and residents of the area.

    Sources said policemen arrested one of the suspected cultists, who ran into their station when he was being pursued by a rival gang.

    It was gathered that the fleeing cultist that ran into the station and was taken into police custody sustained gunshot injuries.

    But the invaders were said to have fled following heavy presence of armed policemen.


    The invaders were said to have traced their rivals to their houses and reportedly set fire on the buildings, leaving many including traders running for their lives.

    When contacted, spokesman of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident describing it as a supremacy battle.

    Omoni, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said that the command launched an investigation to unravel the cause of the incident with a view to apprehending the fleeing suspects.

    He said: “Though the matter has nothing to do with the police but we are investigating. One person has already been arrested and we are on their trail.

    “At the end of the day we will round them up and they will face the weight of the law. It was an inter-cult war and supremacy clash that resulted in the carnage.
    They burnt their rival houses. They burnt about two houses.”

    Rivers State Govt. Proscribes IPOB, Places N50m Bounty On wanted Stanley Mgbere

    The Rivers state government has outlawed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which has been blamed for attacks in some Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Rivers state, especially in Oyigbo LGA.

    Governor Nyesom Wike who made the pronouncement in a state-wide address on Friday October 23, also declared one Stanley Mgbere from Onne in Eleme LGA wanted and placed a bounty of N50 million on him. Wike said the money will be paid to anyone who can provide credible information that would lead to his arrest and prosecution.

    The Rivers state Governor also promised to sign an executive order to effect the proscription of IPOB in the state, adding that he would meet with communities and stakeholders to ensure prompt implementation in collaboration with security agencies.

    BREAKING: Rivers State youths defy Wike’s Ban, begin #ENDSARS protest

    Youths on Tuesday continued their protest against police brutality and extortion in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

    This is despite the ban on protests throughout the state by Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Monday.

    But the protesters lamented that youths cannot continue to be killed without them protesting.

    Our correspondent learnt that they converged opposite Pleasure Park Port Harcourt around 08.45am to resume the protest.

    While some of the protesters were seen with placards, others chanted “EndSARS”, “We are tired of dying”, and “Protest is our right” among others.

    “We are protesting against people that are killing us and you are asking to stay at home, how come? We are harassed and treated like criminals every day,” one of the protesters said.

    A policeman at the scene of the protest appealed to the youths to be peaceful.

    Earlier, Wike in a statement by Rivers Commissioner for Information, Paulinus Nsirim, said, ”
    “All proposed protests under #EndSars Campaign are hereby prohibited.

    “Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

    “Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.”

    #EndSARS: Gov. Wike bans #EndSARS protest in Rivers state

    The Rivers state government has banned all forms of #EndSARS protest in the state.

    In a statement released this night, the state Commissioner for Information, Paulinus Nsirim, said since the Inspector General of Police has dissolved all SARS formations across the country, the state government sees no reason why any #EmdSARS protest should hold in the state.

    Nsirim noted that violators will be arrested and brought to book.

    The Rivers State Government hereby wish to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State.

    Therefore, all proposed protests under #EndSARS Campaign are hereby prohibited.

    Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

    Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.

    Parents and Guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.

    Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.

    Rivers notorious kidnapper, Bobisky killed 400 people before death – Ogoni Youths

    Ogoni Youths have revealed that most wanted notorious kidnapper and armed robber, Bobisky killed over 400 people across Ogoni land during his reign of terror.

    The President General of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) Legborsi Yamaabana made the revelation when he led some Ogoni youths on a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, at the command headquarters at Moscow Road on Tuesday, September 15.

    Recall that the kingpin, real name Honest Digbara, was declared wanted by the state government with a N30m bounty on his head, over the countless killings and nefarious activities in Ogoni land.

    On Saturday, September 12, Bobisky was arrested during a joint security operation with a local outfit at Koro community in Tail Local Government Area of the state. Read previous report Here

    The CP while receiving the youths said that on assumptions of duty in the Command, he vowed to dismantle all hardened criminal gangs and carefully chose his team to accomplish the task.

    According to the CP, DPO of Bori Division, SP Bako Angbashim, who was pivotal in the arrest of Bobisky, was one of those he chose to lead the team in trailing notorious criminal gangs.

    In his response, Comrade Yamaabana called on the inspector General of Police (IGP)  to promote SP Angbashim to an Area Commander so that he can help tackle crimes within the four local government of Ogoni land.

    Comrade Yamaabana said that in the coming days, Ogoni youths shall consult Gbo Kabaari Ogoni and the supreme council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers to send a strong delegation to the Inspector General Of police to consider retaining the services of CP Mukan as Rivers State Commissioner for another 3 years, and and accelerate the promotion of DPO Bako Agbashim as Area commander in charge of Bori division or any other higher office.

    Speaking further, the Commisoner said the next task is to dismantle the renegades set up by Bobisky and other high profile criminals operating in Rivers State.

    Rivers Govt releases 22 Exxon Mobil Staff

    The Rivers State Government has released the 22 Staff of Exxon Mobil who were arrested for violating the State Executive Order restricting movement in the state.

    Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Rivers State, Professor Zaccheus Adangor said the mobil staff were released without charges.

    He said they were released after interventions by well-meaning Nigerians and that the State Government will no longer press charges against them.

    The staff were let go from the State  Isolation Centre at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

    COVID-19: Rivers Govt. receives more palliatives from NLNG, MAN, private sector operators

    The Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited says it will donate pickup vans, ventilators, monitors and several pieces1of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support the fight against COVID-19 in Rivers.

    Sir. Joseph Alagoa, the NLNG’s General Manager Corporate Services made this known on Friday while presenting some palliatives meant for the people of Rivers to the State Government.

    He commended Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers for taking proactive steps to protect the people of Rivers from coronavirus.

    According to Alagoa, NLNG will be donating two pickup vans, five Ventilators, 30 monitors and 17,000 pieces of Personal Protective Equipments.

    He said the the NLNG would in addition be donating equipment and materials worth one million ($1million) US Dollars to upgrade specific facilities at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.

    According to him, the NLNG will be donating food items valued at over $250,000USD to its host communities as palliatives.

    “We are doing this to guarantee the safety of lives and property. In total, what we have donated is about $2.8millionUSD.

    “In addition to that, we will be refurbishing and setting up a 10-bed Isolation and holding Centre at the Bonny Zonal Hospital and this will cost $1.05millionUSD.

    “This Centre will be equipped with all the necessary medical equipment to make it is fully functional in the event that COVID-19 becomes present in the Bonny area, he said.

    “This is to show our stand and determination to work with the Government of Rivers State and also the people of Rivers State at this time that all hands need to be on deck to work together to tackle this challenge.

    “These are trying times and we all need to stay together, stand together and most importantly support each other at this trying time, he said.”

    Alagoa also stressed that it is important for the private sector and individuals to provide support in the fight against the spread of the Novel COVID-19 pandemic.

    Similarly, Sen. Adawari Pepple, the Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Rivers and Bayelsa States Chapter, also lauded the governor for taking steps against the pandemic in Rivers

    He also assured the Rivers Government that the Association will support the state government’s efforts at offering palliatives to the people.

    Speaking in the same vein, Pepple lauded Governor Wike for taking the right steps for the state.

    He said: “So far, all the steps that have been taken by the Rivers State Government have been very positive. We are glad to note that we haven’t recorded more incidents than what we have.

    “Even those who were declared positive have now been treated and they are negative. This is worth celebrating.

    “We have come to lend our support to Rivers State Government in its fight to check the spread of coronavirus.’’

    Next Cash and Carry donated various foodstuffs and beverages to the state government.

    Sir Nnaedozie Okwoli, Chief Financial Officer, Next Cash and Carry Ltd, lauded Gov. Wike for the effort to check the spread of coronavirus.

    Responding, Chairman of Rivers State COVID-19 Palliatives Committee, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, thanked the donors for supporting the Rivers government to reach out to her people.

    He said: “Today, Next Cash and Carry has scored a major point by donating these items to a friend in need.

    “The effort of Governor Wike has yielded results as the State for now has nobody with the virus. But there are consequences for the lockdown.

    “The shops and markets are not there. He has set up Committees to buy off foodstuffs from farmers and fishermen and then distribute to the less privileged.’’

    The State’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Chike Princewill assured that all the donations would be judiciously used by the state government for the benefit of the people of Rivers. (NAN)
