Ronaldo Help Alnassr Win Arab Club Champions Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to help Al-Nassr win their first Arab Club Champions Cup title despite finishing with nine men after extra time.

The Portuguese forward, 38, played a key role as Al-Nassr came from behind to beat fellow Saudi side Al-Hilal 2-1.

Ronaldo cancelled out Michael’s opener before Abdulelah Al-Amri and Nawaf Boushal were sent off for Al-Nassr.

But Ronaldo scored again in the first half of extra time to seal his first trophy since his lucrative move.

However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was carted off with five minutes left following a collision, just two days before his side’s Saudi Pro League opener against Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.

The former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus forward agreed a move to the Saudi Pro League in December and helped his side finish runners-up last season.

Several more big names have followed him to Saudi Arabia this summer, including new team-mates Sadio Mane, Seko Fofana and Marcelo Brozovic.

The trio were all denied by goalkeeper Mohammed Alowais in the first half at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.

Former Barcelona and Zenit winger Malcom crossed for fellow Brazilian Michael to head in the opener on 51 minutes before Al-Amri was shown a straight red card on 71 minutes.

Although Ronaldo turned in a low cross by right-back Sultan Al-Ghannam to equalise on 74 minutes, Boushal also received a straight red card to put Al-Nassr down to nine men.

But eight minutes into extra time Ronaldo pounced on a rebound off the crossbar with keeper Alowais off his line to head home his sixth goal in six games in the tournament.

He finished as top scorer in the competition, which included the top clubs from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.

  • Ronaldo Breaks Silence After Portugal 2022 World Cup Exit

Ronaldo Breaks Silence After Portugal 2022 World Cup Exit

Cristiano Ronaldo has made his first comment since Portugal crashed out of the World Cup at the hands of Morocco on Saturday.

Morocco defeated the former European champions 1-0 to make history as the first African country to reach a World Cup semi-final, a result that left the Portugal captain heartbroken as he left the pitch in tears.

In a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, Ronaldo stated that even though he has achieved many successes with clubs and his national team, winning the World Cup for his country was his biggest career dream.

He said he had fought hard to achieve that dream in all the five World Cups he appeared in and never at any point turned his face to the fight or gave up on the dream, but also admitted that the dream sadly ended yesterday with his country’s defeat to Morocco.

Acknowledging that a lot had been said, written and speculated about him, Ronaldo noted that his dedication to Portugal had not changed even for a moment.

He wrote, “Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. Fortunately I won many titles of international dimension, including Portugal, but putting our country’s name on the highest foot in the World was my biggest dream.

“I fought for it . I fought hard for this dream. In the 5 appearances I scored in World Cups over 16 years, always by the side of great players and supported by millions of Portuguese, I gave my all. Leave it all out on the field. I never turned my face to the fight and I never gave up on that dream. Sadly yesterday the dream ended It’s not worth reacting to heat.

“I just want you all to know that much has been said, much has been written, much has been speculated, but my dedication to Portugal has not changed not for a moment. I was always one fighting for the objective of all and I would never turn my back on my colleagues and my country.

“Not much more to say for now. Thank you Portugal. Thank you Qatar. The dream was nice while it lasted… Now, it’s hoping that the weather will be good advisor (sic) and allow each one to draw their own conclusions.”

Messi has won the award a record seven times more than any other player in history but does not make the list for the first time since 2005.

  • Ronaldo Thanks Liverpool Fans For Show Of Compassion

Ronaldo Thanks Liverpool Fans For Show Of Compassion

Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his gratitude to Liverpool fans for their show of support after his newborn baby son died.

The fierce rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool was set aside during the seventh minute of Tuesday’s 4-0 win for the home side at Anfield as the entire stadium joined in a minute’s applause.

Liverpool fans also sang their anthem “you’ll never walk alone”.

Ronaldo missed the match to be with his family after he and partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the sad news on Monday.

“One world… One sport… One global family,” Ronaldo posted on Instagram, alongside a video of Anfield rising to its feet.

“Thanks, Anfield. Me and my family will never forget this moment of respect and compassion.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp described the ovation as his “moment of the match” despite a resounding win for his side.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez, who were expecting twins, also confirmed the birth of a baby daughter on Monday.

The couple, who met during Ronaldo’s time at Real Madrid, have a four-year-old daughter together, while Ronaldo has three other children.

EPL: Ronaldo Scores Hat-Trick As Man Utd Beat Tottenham

Cristiano Ronaldo set another goalscoring record in a return to form with a hat-trick to keep Manchester United’s chances of playing in the Champions League next season alive with a 3-2 win over Tottenham on Saturday.

Ronaldo had scored just once in his previous 10 games, but three fantastic finishes took him clear as the highest scorer in professional men’s football history according to FIFA’s records with 807 goals for club and country.

Victory lifts United back into fourth, although they are just two points ahead of Arsenal who have four games in hand.

A fifth defeat in eight league games is another blow to Tottenham’s hopes of a top-four finish as they remain seventh, now five points behind United.

Ronaldo’s second spell at Old Trafford has so far proven to be an anti-climax with his poor form sparking debate over whether the 37-year-old’s powers are waning.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner missed United’s thrashing in the Manchester derby last weekend and was criticised for a perceived lack of commitment as he jetted off to Portugal to rehab a hip injury rather than watch his teammates lost 4-1 at the Etihad.

He was restored to Ralf Rangnick’s starting line-up as one of five changes from that damaging defeat with Bruno Fernandes the notable absentee due to illness.

It took just 12 minutes for Ronaldo to make his mark with a stunning strike into the top corner from outside the box.

However, United failed to build on the early goal and were instead forced back in a familiar pattern to previous home games this season against stronger opposition.

Spurs quickly had the ball in the net in response only for Ben Davies to be flagged offside before Eric Dier’s header from a corner was cleared off the line.

A Tottenham equaliser seemed only a matter of time and was gifted to them when Alex Telles handled Dejan Kulusevski’s cross for a clear penalty.

Harry Kane smashed home the resulting spot-kick to continue his fine form for his sixth goal in as many games.

Within three minutes, though, United were back in front thanks to a landmark goal for Ronaldo.

He turned home Jadon Sancho’s inviting cross to surpass Austria-Czech striker Josef Bican as football’s all-time record goalscorer according to FIFA’s records.

United’s defensive deficiencies meant Ronaldo’s work was not done to win the game as Spurs enjoyed the better of the second half.

Son Heung-min hooked a glorious chance wide from Kulusevski’s cut-back.

When a second equaliser did arrive for Antonio Conte’s men it was thanks to more misery for United captain Harry Maguire.

Consistent errors from the England international have played a huge part in his side’s struggles this season and he turned into his own net from Sergio Reguilon’s cross.

Conte screamed for focus from his side on the sideline, but they succumbed again to Ronaldo’s predatory instincts.

The United number seven rose highest to meet Telles’ corner nine minutes from time to power a header into the top corner for just his second United hat-trick and first since returning to Old Trafford in August.

  • Barcelona to offer Juventus three players in swap deal for Ronaldo

Barcelona to offer Juventus three players in swap deal for Ronaldo

Barcelona is ready to give Juventus three players in a swap deal for their forward, Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to Diario AS, Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, is eager to sign Ronaldo and he is prepared to use Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho and Sergi Roberto as a makeweight in a deal for the Portugal captain.

Laporta is formulating an audacious plan to unite Ronaldo with captain Lionel Messi at Camp Nou.

Ronaldo has a year remaining on his contract with Juventus.

The 36-year-old has been strongly linked with a transfer move away from Juventus this summer.

Ronaldo has drawn the interest of Manchester United, PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the prospect of uniting Ronaldo with Messi also relies on the Argentina captain agreeing to a new contract with Barcelona.

Messi’s current contract with Barcelona will expire on 30 June.

  • Champions League: Juventus told to sell Cristiano Ronaldo immediately

Champions League: Juventus told to sell Cristiano Ronaldo immediately

A former Juventus president, Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, has told the club to sell Cristiano Ronaldo this summer straight away.

Gigli made the plea while questioning Ronaldo’s signing after the Portugal captain failed to score against Porto on Tuesday night as the Serie A giants were knocked out from the Champions League.

He explained that Juventus should never have bought the 36-year-old from Real Madrid, adding that the forward is too expensive.

Asked if bringing in Ronaldo to Turin was the wrong choice for Juventus, Gigli told Radio Punto Nuovo: “Absolutely, yes! I said that on his very first day at Juventus. He is a great champion but is too expensive.

“Now it’s up to Juventus. They have been paying him 1m euros per goal. [Juve president Andrea] Agnelli must be self-critical, but he doesn’t have great collaborators.

Ronaldo added: “The club should free Ronaldo at the end of the season, and the same goes for Paratici. Maybe Agnelli had promoted him to remove him from his position afterwards. This could be the scenario.”

  • Ronaldo Silenced As Porto Knock Juventus Out Of Champions League

Ronaldo Silenced As Porto Knock Juventus Out Of Champions League

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16 for the second year running on Tuesday, losing to 10-man Porto on away goals despite winning the second leg 3-2 in Turin.

Sergio Oliveira’s extra-time free-kick sent twice former winners Porto through to the quarter-finals as the tie finished 4-4 on aggregate.

Leading 2-1 from the first leg in Portugal, Oliveira’s first-half penalty increased Porto’s advantage but Juventus levelled the tie through two goals from Federico Chiesa, which came either side of Porto striker Mehdi Taremi’s red card.

Oliveira then rifled home a low free-kick on 115 minutes, which passed through the legs of Ronaldo, with Adrien Rabiot’s header in reply coming in vain for Juventus.

“When you make four big errors over two legs in the Champions League last 16, you can get eliminated,” said Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo.

“It will take a few days to wipe this game from our minds, but then we must play every game with the right attitude, realise we’re still only in March and have time to climb the Serie A table.”

Juventus had been counting on Portuguese striker Ronaldo, the competition’s record goalscorer, and in-form Spaniard Alvaro Morata, who had scored six goals in the competition this season, to pull them through.

But Juventus’ Champions League heartache stretching back 25 years continued, falling in the first knockout round the second consecutive year after losing to French club Lyon last season.

“The work of the whole team was important to go through in a manner that was fully deserved,” said veteran Porto defender Pepe.

“It’s hard to explain by words the way we managed to react (playing with 10 men). Today we showed lots of character: the players were focused and that made it easy for us.”

Pirlo, in his first season as Juventus coach, had regained several injured players including midfielder Arthur and defender Leonardo Bonucci, but captain Giorgio Chiellini remained on the bench with Danilo suspended.

Porto goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin produced a sharp early save to turn away a Morata header, while Taremi nodded against the crossbar at the other end in a lively start to the game.

The Italian champions fell behind on the night when Merih Demiral conceded a penalty after bundling over Taremi in the box, with Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers pointing to the spot.

Oliveira made no mistake, sending Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage overall.

Marchesin continued his heroics, the Argentine blocking from Morata on 26 minutes and Rabiot minutes later after the French midfielder took aim from distance.

    Chiesa revives Juve hopes

Juve hit back after the break thanks to Chiesa’s double, the first on 49 minutes when Ronaldo controlled and knocked it back for Chiesa to curl in past Marchesin from a tight angle.

Porto soon went a man down with Taremi sent off for two quick yellow cards, the second for recklessly kicking the ball away.

Despite the Iranian’s absence Porto managed to hold on, with Pepe intervening brilliantly to force Chiesa into striking the post after rounding Marchesin.

Chiesa made no mistake just after the hour getting his head to another perfect Juan Cuadrado cross which Marchesin again got a hand to but could not stop as Juve pulled level 3-3 on aggregate.

Ronaldo missed a chance to add to his tally of 134 Champions League goals after heading a Cuadrado delivery wide with 12 minutes to go.

It was end to end action with Marchesin denying Chiesa a hat-trick, while Morata had a goal ruled out for offside in injury time before Cuadrado was desperately unlucky to see his curling shot smack back off the bar.

Porto had the best chance of the first 15 minutes in extra time with Szczesny blocking a Moussa Marega header.

But Oliviera won a free-kick and fired in low to beat Szczesny on 115 minutes amid wild celebrations from the Portuguese bench.

Two minutes later Rabiot headed Juventus back into contention but the hosts could not snatch another goal as their European adventure ended prematurely once more.

I never saw Messi as a rival – Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo insisted he never saw Lionel Messi as a rival after Juventus brushed past Barcelona in the Champions League.

Ronaldo converted two penalties and Weston McKennie also scored at Camp Nou, where Juve claimed a 3-0 win and top spot in Group G on Tuesday.

Messi had a game-high 11 shots, including seven on target, but Barca fell as he faced Ronaldo – who starred during nine seasons in La Liga with Real Madrid – once more.

READ ALSO: Barcelona leave Messi to fight Ronaldo’s Juventus all alone

Ronaldo, who shared a brief embrace with Messi before the clash, said there was no rivalry between the two all-time greats.

“I have always had a very cordial relationship with him,” the Juve star told Movistar.

“I shared 12, 13 or 14 years of award ceremonies with him. I never saw him as a rival.

“He always tries to do what is best for his team and me too. I always got along very well with him.

“But we know that in football, for the press, for the show, a rivalry is sought, but I have always gotten along well with him. I see him as always.”

Since 2003-04, Messi’s seven shots on target were the most a player has had in a single Champions League match without scoring. His 11 in total was also the most in a game without scoring in the competition.

But Ronaldo scored his first goals against Barca in the Champions League (in his sixth appearance) and 133rd and 134th goals in the competition.

“Barcelona are going through a difficult time, but it is still Barcelona,” Ronaldo said.

“The truth is that we are very happy, we knew it was an almost impossible mission, it was a complicated mission and we played well.

“The key was to get into the game well, we scored two early and from there we believed it was possible.”

Juventus are yet to lose in the Serie A this season but have drawn of their 10 matches to sit in fourth position – six points behind current leaders Milan.

Having progressed out of the Champions League as group winners, the Old Lady will now turn their attention to a road trip to Genoa in the league on Sunday.
