    NYSC Members Urged to Be Good Ambassadors at Delta State Batch ‘C’ Closing Ceremony

    Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been urged to be good ambassadors of the scheme and responsible representatives of their families and states of origin. The charge was given on Tuesday by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori during the Terminal Parade and Closing Ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.

    The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Special Projects, Barr. Funyei Manager, advised corps members to integrate fully into their host communities as they proceed to their different places of primary assignment. He encouraged them to interact positively with the people and embrace national service with commitment and patriotism.Oborevwori noted that such dedication would enrich their personal experience and enable the nation to benefit maximally from their contributions.“The orientation course you have just completed lays a strong foundation for the other cardinal programmes of the NYSC scheme,” he said. “Its components have exposed you to a variety of skills and knowledge that will prepare you to function effectively in your various places of primary assignment.”

    He commended their positive attitude throughout the orientation period and formally declared the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course closed. The governor also appealed to corps employers across the state not to reject any corps member posted to them, urging them to provide conducive work environments that will enable the young graduates to contribute meaningfully to Delta State’s development.

    Earlier in his remarks, the Delta State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, encouraged corps members to build on the foundation laid during the orientation course by committing fully to the post-camp training phase. He identified the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a major highlight of the exercise.“Through the SAED In-Camp Training, corps members were introduced to various vocational and entrepreneurial skills aimed at promoting self-reliance and reducing dependence on white-collar employment,” Kwaghe said.

    He urged the corps members to identify genuine needs within their host communities and initiate impactful projects, noting that the Community Development Service (CDS) remains a critical pillar of the NYSC vision.Kwaghe expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his continuous support and interventions toward the success of the NYSC scheme in Delta State. He also thanked the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for installing 229 solar-powered streetlights within the camp, which have improved security, enhanced aesthetics and provided better illumination at night.

    NYSC DG Urges Delta Corps Members to Respect Host Community Culture, Embrace Skills Training

    The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olukunle Oluseye Nafiu, has urged Corps members deployed to Delta State to respect the culture of their host communities while upholding the values of the scheme. He gave the advice during an interaction with the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area. Addressing the Corps members, Nafiu emphasized that respecting local traditions is essential for peaceful coexistence, noting that Delta communities are known for their friendliness and hospitality. He reminded the participants that they represent Nigeria and must conduct themselves responsibly throughout their service year.

    The NYSC DG encouraged Corps members to remain focused and avoid misuse of social media, especially content creation that could jeopardize their future. “Your generation loves social media and content creation,” he said. “Do not allow today’s content to ruin your tomorrow. In NYSC, if you cross the line, you pay for it. Follow the rules, do your biometrics, and obey simple instructions.”Nafiu also urged the Corps members to take full advantage of the in-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which equips participants with practical skills for self-reliance. He stressed that diversifying their skills would increase their chances of becoming job creators and future leaders.The Director-General assured the Corps members of their safety but cautioned them against unnecessary travel. He emphasized that all movements must be purposeful and approved in line with NYSC regulations. “Do not travel for travel’s sake. Always follow instructions so that NYSC is not put under avoidable distress,” he advised.

    Earlier in his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator for Delta, Mr. John Kwaghe, disclosed that the camp is currently hosting 2,071 Corps members—944 males and 1,127 females. He commended the Corps members for their discipline, commitment, and active participation in camp activities, particularly the skills acquisition sessions.Kwaghe also highlighted ongoing improvements at the camp, noting that internal road construction is at an advanced stage, and 95 percent of the perimeter fence has been completed with support from the Delta State Government. However, he appealed to the NYSC DG for intervention in procuring new vehicles to replace the aging fleet and for repairs on the camp pavilion ahead of the rainy season.The visit by the NYSC leadership underscored the scheme’s commitment to fostering discipline, cultural integration, and youth empowerment across the country.
