Sokoto Is A Mini Nigeria Says Tambuwal

    By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has described the state as a microcosm of Nigeria’s traditions and cultures.
Gov. Tambuwal made this observation Tuesday evening when he hosted officials of the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja and participants in Course 29 of the institution to a state dinner in the Presidential Lodge of Government House, Sokoto.
His media aide, Muhammad Bello in a statement said, while taking cue from the cultural display that featured to entertain the guests, the cultures and traditions of Nigeria are intertwined as they help in sending messages to different parts of the country.

He said in its efforts to sustain this unity in diversity “the state government doesn’t discriminate between indigenes and other Nigerians resident in the state.
“Everyone in Sokoto enjoy healthcare, education and relief packages provided by the state’s Zakkat and Waqf Commission (SOZECOM) free of charge,” he added.
He further added that “this is a state where we don’t discriminate. That is why we are peaceful.”

Although the cultural affiliations existing in the state are superlative, the governor, however, noted that there is a drawback in some areas, thus necessitating the establishment of a Ministry of Culture and Tourism by his administration “to revitalize the country’s cultural heritage” as they exist in the state.

Gov. Tambuwal who offered free parcels of land to any of the participants willing to live in the state after retirement, expressed appreciation to the NDC for accepting his proposal of partnership between the state government and itself on the latter’s undertaking a study on banditry and kidnapping on behalf of the state government.

In his remarks, the NDC’s Director of National and Military Strategy (DNMS) and leader of the college’s Team Four currently on a study to Sokoto state, Air Commodore Dauda Garba Prayero, appreciated the well packaged reception and lectures organized by the state government for the participants.
He said this is a prove that the choice of the state as a destination for a crop of its participants by the NDC “is not misplaced.”

He also noted that the current nomination of Gov. Tambuwal as a ‘digital governor’ by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and his visible efforts in developing science and technology through heavy investments in education has shown that he is a technophile.

Highlights of the occasion included cultural dance and presentation of souvenirs to the staff of the NDC and the course participants.
