    With the current situation faced by people in the state caused by insecurity, the Sokoto state government has outlined series of medical facilities where citizens with low profile can be treated free of charge.

    Under the leadership of Governor Tambuwal,the state government has selected medical facilities with their cellular numbers for contacts on how to reach and gets the medicines especially on malaria.

    Similarly,check ups and diagnosis are to be rendered free on those wishing for health status generally on their bodies.

    Those living in the metropolis can contact SOSMEA office at block 14 Giginya Secretariat along western bypass, Sokoto.

    Tambuwal said the medicines are given free of charge and called on general public to report any attempt on sales of medicines and any related activity related to medical check ups and diagnosis.

    Sokoto state government will soon secure N4 billion Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme loan facility through the Zenith Bank.

    Bello Muhammad said the state government has also approved the sum of over N8 billion billion for the construction and dualization of two main roads in the state.

    These were part of the outcomes of two separate state executive council meeting held in the state capital last Friday and Monday this week chaired by Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and his Deputy Hon. Mannir Muhammad Dan’Iya respectively.

    According to the state commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries Development, who is also the overseer of the state Ministry of Agriculture, Professor Abdulkadir Junaidu 16, 876 farmers will benefit from the targeted loan.

    The loan, which is intended to facilitate rice, wheat and tomato cultivation, the Commissioner said, will be supervised by a state advisory committee and approved consultants.

    He explained that majority of the farmers that will benefit from the scheme will be from from rural areas of the state just as 732 medium scale farmers and 180 large scale farmers will also benefit.

    Professor Junaid also maintained that, in line with the guidelines of the facility, five laws have been made, each for the execution of the component parts of the loan: purchase of herbicides, fertilizers, seeds, supply and processing machines.

    A breakdown of these shows that over N363 million would be spent on the purchase of 45,296 litres , of herbicides, 42, 716 litres of insecticides and
    2,610 units of sprayers; while over N1 billion will be used to purchase 67, 764 bags of 50 kg NPK and 28,728 bags of 50 kg urea.

    Also, the sum of N312 million will be spent on the purchase of 198, 555 kg of rice and 331, 270 kg of wheat as well as 2,254 of tomato seedlings; in addition to the sum of over N495 million earmarked for the procurement of supply and processing machineries, which comprises water pumping machines, rice and wheat threshing machines, tomatoes pasting machines among others.

    Meanwhile, the executive council also rose from a similar meeting last Friday after resolving to
    to construct two roads projects from Shuni-Tsehen Masu-Gandun Ardo to Kasarawa; and from Sokoto city gate to Shuni town at the costs of over N4.4 billion N3.6 billion respectively.

    The first road will be a 12 km southern bypass dual carriage one while the second will be a 7.2 km dual carriage. The contracts awarded to Roads Nigeria.
    and Afdin Construction Company respectively are expected to be completed within 18 months.

    Other resolutions reached at the meeting were the approval of a bill for a law for the establishment of Sokoto state veterinary specialist hospital, presentation of a reports on COVID-19 and gastroenteritis situation in the state.

    A week after the dastardly killings of over 70 people in Goronyo local government area of Sokoto state, the six governors of the North-East geopolitical zone have donated the sum of N20 million to Sokoto state government.

    Media aide to the governor, Muhammad Bello said this is as Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state appealed to the Federal Government to provide more boots on the ground in the entire North-West region to roll back the menace of banditry, kidnapping and sundry criminalities.

    Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Umaru Zulum announced the donation Saturday when he along with his Gombe state counterpart, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya visited Sokoto to condole with the people and government of the state over the bandits attack that claimed lives in Goronyo.

    Prof. Zulum who is also the Chairman of the North-East Governors Forum (NEGF) expressed displeasure over the incident and offered that his counterpart parts in the region, especially his state which has more than a decade experience of engaging the Boko Haram insurgents, will offer valuable counsel to Sokoto state and other North-Western states currently experiencing the scourge of bandits and marauders.

    In his response, Gov Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state while applauding the NEGF for its kind gesture, assured that his administration will avail itself with the wealth of experience of his counterparts.

    Attributing the influx of the marauders to the security operations in Zamfara which has occasioned the influx of the criminals displaced to Sokoto, asked the Federal Government to expand the operation to other states of the North-West.

    He also appealed to the apex government to provide more equipment to the security operatives to enable them confront and curtail the bandits and other criminals.

    Gov. Tambuwal later led his visitors to Ummarun Kwabo Jarma Academy in Sokoto which hosts several orphans whose parents were killed by Boko Haram adherents.

    Launching the Programme at Bodinga and Yabo local Government areas, the Sokoto State Commissioner Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development Prof. Abdulkadir Usman Junaidu who is also the Overseer Ministry of Agriculture said the State Government launched the Programme aimed at boosting Livestock Production under Sokoto State Cattle Breeding Milk and Meat Production in the State .

    The Commissioner explained that Agriculture being the major Contributor of the economy, the state Government was doing everything possible to promote it’s Agricultural activities in the State for economic Development of the State and Nigeria at large.

    Professor Junaidu added that to ensure full actualization of the Programme the State Government had embarked on annual Animal Vaccination Campaign for free to Livestock Farmers across 23 Local Government areas in the State .

    He Called on Livestock Farmers to utilize the opportunity and get their Cattle Inseminated for economic Development of the Sector .

    Also at their separate remarks, the Chairman Bodinga Local Government Hon. Shehu Dabaga and that of yabo local Government Hon. Haliru Abubakar kilgori assured their support of the Programme which will lead to the increase in milk and Meat Production in their areas .

    They added that their council will organise a Sensitization Campaign among their people to enable them understand the significance of the development.

    In their vote of thanks the District Head of Bodinga who was represented by the village Head of Toma and that of Torankawa District thanked the State Government particularly the Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development for choosing their community as the first phase.

    They assured their total support and cooperation to ensure smooth take up of the Programme for the benefit of their people

    The Sokoto state Ministry For Women and Children Affairs in collaboration with EU-UN Spotlight Initiative organized press briefing on The Sokoto Gazetted Violence Against Persons’ Prohibition (VAPP) Law to eliminate violence against women and girls.

    The briefing that took place at the NUJ Press Center along Zuru road,Sokoto hosts the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barrister Suleiman Usman(SAN) and the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs,Hajiya Kulu Sifawa.

    “It criminalize female genital mutilation, rape and all Islamic dictation and manifestation committed even by using any part of the body, it has made provision to ensure that the state will set up a sexual referral center in section 3 of the law, provide an emergency medical assistance and support survival”, coupled with many other provision it takes for women and girls to be safer.

    The Attorney General similarly explained further all the submissions provided by the law and the punishment that include life prison sentence.

    Despite myriad of Economic challenges occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19, Global Economic meltdowns and security challenges that have dogged the smooth administration of States recently, Sokoto state Government has remained steadfast in Fiscal discipline, Monthly Payment of staff entitlements and provision of Critical Infrastructure.

    The statement by S.A media to the Governor, it said Aminu Waziri Tambuwal stated this at budgIT’s annual event in Abuja, geared towards enhancing financial probity among States of the Federation.

    According to the Governor, “much of what is being done in the state in terms of Economic reforms are intended to ensure Fiscal Discipline, Transparency and Accountability as well as diversify the state’s economy for the common good of its citizens.”

    Gov. Tambuwal, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Bashir Gidado, enumerated some of the achievements of his administration in the last six years as; Adoption of Open Governance Partnership, Domestication of the World Bank’s States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) program (Which placed the state ahead of others in the country), Establishment of State Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), and Granting Autonomy for State and Local Government Auditors General.

    He also said his administration’s Ease of Doing Business Program fetched it a second position ranking in the federation.

    He added that in order to consolidate on the gains recorded by its frugal fiscal discipline, the State Government rolled out a State Development Plan that will be propelled by Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Medium Term Sector strategy.

    The state, noted the Governor, “also adopted the Charter of Accounts in our budgeting process, established a state Geographical Information System (SOGIS) for Land Administration, restructured the State Board of Internal Revenue Service and established a One-Stop Shop for Business permits, registration, certification and information seeking from Federal and State Agencies under one roof.

    Sokoto state government has donated ten brand new Hilux vans to the vigilante groups in the state on in order to boost their efforts in the renewed thrust by the state government to checkmate banditry, kidnapping and sundry criminality especially in the Eastern flank.

    On June 3, 2020, Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made a huge donation of 98 vehicles that were distributed to all the security agencies in the state.

    26 days afterwards 50 Boxer (C125) motorcycles were donated to the 26 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Sokoto,

    Eight months later Gov. Tambuwal gave 15 patrol vehicles out the 25 purchased for similar purpose to the Nigeria Police.

    Speaking at the ceremony held at the Government Lodge One inside Government House, Sokoto, Governor Tambuwal said the gesture was to assist the vigilante groups in order for them to conduct surveillance and intelligence gathering that will facilitate the work of security agencies in the state.

    The governor also said the government has provided the groups with uniforms and monthly allowances as well as other logistics to enhance the effective discharge of their duty.

    Tambuwal also commended the leadership of the vigilante groups for their sacrifices, commitment and support to the security agencies in the state.

    He cautioned the vigilante to ensure that their operational conduct is guided by security agencies in the state at all times, just as he also warned that no form of armed volunteering (‘Yan Sa Kai) would be tolerated by the government.

    While urging citizens of the state wishing to join the vigilante groups to come forward for screening, Governor Tambuwal thanked religious leaders and traditional rulers for their support and cooperation to the security agencies in the state.

    In his remarks, the state Commissioner of Police, Kamaluddeen Okunola Kolawale expressed gratitude to the governor for the gesture, noting that it is in line with the notion of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on community policing.

    He also assured that the Police will work hand in hand with the vigilante in the state.

    Sokoto state government has declared Tuesday, Aug. 10 as a public holiday in commemoration of the Islamic new year 1443,as contained in a release by SA Media to governor Tambuwal.

    Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal declared the holiday today after due consultation with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

    According to the Head of Service of Sokoto state, Mal. Muhammad Abubakar (Mni), Gov. Tambuwal has approved the declaration of the holiday in line with the statement of the Sultanate Council of Sokoto.

    He appealed to the Muslim Ummah everywhere in the country to pray for peace, peaceful coexistence and progress everywhere in the country.

    SOSG Grants NEPZA 503.8 Hectares For SEZ

    Sokoto state government has granted the Nigeria Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA), a parastatal under the federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, 503.8 hectares in Sokoto to establish the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the state.

    Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made the award Wednesday in Abuja when he met with the Management of NEPZA, led by Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, the Managing Director of the Authority, in Abuja.

    This was contained in a release by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Muhammad Bello.

    According to Gov. Tambuwal, Sokoto state is desirous of partnering NEPZA in any area of mutual benefit, especially as the state would be a critical stakeholders in the management of the SEZ.

    He, therefore, appealed to the Authority to give special consideration to the state in the management of the zone.

    As a result he suggested that the Sokoto Investment Company Limited (SICL) and indigenous businessmen should be part of the arrangements in operating the zone under a private-public partnership.

    Subsequently, it is expected that soon the state government and the authority will inaugurate a technical committee comprising of its respective officials to fast track their mutual engagement.

    The SEZ is designed by the federal government to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), enhance trade and industrialization as well as generate employment.

    The zone is also intended to encourage technology transfer, contribute to national economic growth and development; and encourage patronage of local raw materials.

    In his remarks, Prof. Adesoji who extolled the economic acumen of Gov. Tambuwal, said he was impressed with the recent rating of the state as second best in the ease of doing business by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).

    Attributing this to the leadership qualities of the governor, who he said has provided many infrastructure in the state, Prof. Adesoji thanked the state government for timely provision of land for the Zone, pledging to
    hit the ground running.

    He said NEPZA will soon be in Sokoto for the ground breaking ceremony of the SEZ.

    The state government team at the function include the state Commissioners for Land and Housing as well as Commerce, Hon. Aminu Bala Bodinga and Hon. Bashir Gidado Jegawa respectively.

    Also at the occasion were the Managing Director of the SICL, Hon. Muhammad Buhari Dasuki and Alhaji Mukhtar Maigona, Zannan Sokoto, a Sokoto-based prominent businessman.

    Sokoto state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Sudan-based company, Bunian Agency for General Services Co. Ltd , in order to ensure that the welfare of its students studying in the country is catered for adequately.

    The MoU, signed on behalf of the state government by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Saidu Umar and Ambassador Nuradden Adam Ibrahim, the Director General of Bunian, on behalf of the company, also focused on the deepening of diplomatic ties between Sokoto state and Sudan in the areas of educational pursuit, commerce and agriculture among others, through the instrumentality of the company.

    Speaking at the ceremony held at the Council Chamber of Government House, Sokoto, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the agreement follows his recent visit to Sudan Republic last month.

    He said during the visit, himself and his delegation interacted with the indigenes of the state studying there in order to see how best the state government will assist them.

    In the process of the interaction the delegation realized that there were issues with the agents hitherto representing the state government on the affairs of the students, noting that they were not doing well in handling the affairs of the students.

    As a result, the governor explained, the state government decided to collaborate with the family of Maiyirno of Sudan, descendants of Shehu Usmanu Danfodio, progenitor of the Islamic Reawakening movement in the 18th century, in order to link the state with a reputable company that wil serve as an agent that would assist it in addressing the challenges being faced in the handling of its students’ affairs.

    Gov. Tambuwal further explained that in the course of engaging the royal family, the state also involved the Sudan-based company in the process and decided that there were no other people to look after the students than their brothers resident in the country.

    He pointed out that the engagement offered the state the opportunity of reconnecting, officially, with the Sultanate of Maiyirno in Sudan in order to strengthen the historic relationship between it and the Sokoto Caliphate.

    In his address the representative of Sultan Maiyirno of Sudan, Alhaji Mustapha Ballah promised the state government that the royal family will discharge its duty effectively.

    Ballah, who is also holds the traditional title of Sardaunan Maiyirno, expressed appreciation to the Sokoto state government for making the diplomatic engagement a reality, assuring it of the family’s total support and cooperation in order to achieve the desired objectives.
