Nigeria’s women U-19 cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, are intensifying their preparations for the 2025 U-19 T20 World Cup Qualifiers following recent changes in the tournament structure. The qualifiers, now set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, have been rescheduled, granting the team additional time to prepare.

Originally, the tournament was structured into two groups of seven teams each. However, the late inclusion of Zimbabwe necessitated the formation of a new division, leading to a reorganization of the tournament. The Junior Female Yellow Greens have been placed in Division 1 of the Africa Qualifiers, which commenced on August 21, 2024. This division includes strong teams such as Nigeria, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Division 2, featuring Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, and Sierra Leone, is being played in a round-robin format. The top two teams from Division 2 will advance to join the teams in Division 1 for the final qualifiers.

The Division 1 qualifiers are scheduled to run from September 23 to 29, 2024, in Kigali. The winner of this division will secure Africa’s second spot in the U-19 T20 World Cup, set to be held from January 8 to February 2, 2025, in Malaysia. The World Cup will also feature South Africa, New Zealand, and Samoa in Group C.

The Junior Female Yellow Greens have been training diligently at the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s High Performance Centre in Benin City, Edo State. They are expected to move to Lagos for final preparations before heading to Rwanda for the qualifiers.

Nigerian Musician, Kizz Daniel Arrested In Tanzania

Rave of the moment singer, Oluwatobiloba Daniel, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has been reportedly arrested in Tanzania.

The ‘Buga’ crooner was said to have been arrested after failing to show up at a paid concert.

The artiste was meant to perform at the Warehouse, Old Nextdoor Arena in Tanzania, on Sunday night, as part of his Afro Classic World Tour.

The singer had arrived in the country but had refused to perform for his fans since his clothes were unavailable, according to reports.

In a viral video, some Tanzanians, some of whom paid as much as $5000 for tables, were seen throwing objects which sounded like bottles on the empty stage after they had waited hours for the singer, while others were also seen walking out angrily while expressing their dissatisfaction.

Later the artiste was seen being led into a police van by some officers as some persons taunted him.

This is the second time Kizz Daniel is being called out by fans over cancellation of his shows in the last one month.

A few weeks ago, he received backlash from several of his fans who had requested a refund after waiting for the singer for five hours. Videos surfaced on social media of fans demanding a refund of their money after he arrived at a concert some hours late. The musician was billed to perform in the United States but showed up late.

He was again dragged by his fans after he canceled his Denver concert abruptly on July 28, 2022.

Samia Suluhu Hassan becomes first Tanzania female President

Tanzania’s Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has been sworn in as the country’s first female president after the sudden death of the Late President, John Magufuli.

The 61-year-old is expected to finish Magufuli’s second five-year term, which will run until 2025.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony which took place at Dar es Salaam, Hassan promised to be honest, obey and protect the constitution of Tanzania.

“I, Samia Suluhu Hassan, promise to be honest and obey and protect the constitution of Tanzania.

“I also promise to continue the legacy of patriotism to the African course which the late Magufuli laid down to the best of my capacity and with the help of the good people of Tanzania,” she said.

Hassan becomes the second serving female head of state in Africa alongside Ethiopia’s President Sahle-Work Zewde, whose role is mainly ceremonial.

Recall that Magufuli died of heart condition on Wednesday night.

His death was announced in a state-wide broadcast by his deputy, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

She also declared that there would be 14 days of national mourning while flags would fly at half mast.

Tanzania’s president, John Magufuli dies at 61 after heart complications

Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has died aged 61, the country’s vice-president has announced.

He died on Wednesday from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam, Samia Suluhu Hassan said in an address on state television.

Magufuli had not been seen in public for more than two weeks, and rumours have been circulating about his health.

Opposition politicians said last week that he had contracted Covid-19, but this has not been confirmed.

Magufuli was one of Africa’s most prominent coronavirus sceptics, and called for prayers and herbal-infused steam therapy to counter the virus.

“It is with deep regret that I inform you that today… we lost our brave leader, the president of the Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli,” Vice-President Hassan said in the announcement.

She said there would be 14 days of national mourning and flags would fly at half mast.

According to Tanzania’s constitution, Ms Hassan will be sworn in as the new president and should serve the remainder of Magufuli’s five-year team which he began last year.

Magufuli was last seen in public on 27 February, but Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa insisted last week that the president was “healthy and working hard”.

He blamed the rumours of the president’s ill-health on “hateful” Tanzanians living abroad.

But opposition leader Tundu Lissu told the BBC that his sources had told him Magufuli was being treated in hospital for coronavirus in Kenya.
