    Insecurity: Traditional Ruler, Wife Kidnapped In Kogi

    A traditional ruler, Oba Shedrack Durojaye Obibeni and his wife were said to have been kidnapped along Makutu-Idofin road in Kogi west senatorial district of the state on Monday evening.

    Yagba East Local Government Council Chairman, Mr Abdulrasak Asiru who confirmed the incident, described it as “very shocking” and “sad”.

    “I as the council chairman and the people of Yagba East are in great shock over the kidnap of our respected Oba and his wife.”

    “This incident was well planned by the kidnappers because from what I learnt, the Oba and his wife only moved out to see something and in less than 10 minutes, they were happened.

    “We smell a rat over this sad incident and we are not resting until we get to the criminal elements who did this act and make sure we rescue our traditional ruler and his wife,” he said.

    The council boss said that already alerts and messages have been sent to all the traditional rulers and community leaders in Okun land to be vigilant and conduct thorough search for the rescue of the couple.

    Asiru said, “As we speak, our hunters and vigilante group are already out into the bushes searching for the criminals so as to rescue our Oba and his wife as soon as possible.”

    However, the Kogi Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, said he was yet to be briefed by the DPO of the area, promising to furnish the press with the details as soon as possible.

    Gunmen Kill Traditional Ruler, Chiefs in Imo State

    Gunmen invaded Obudi Agwa community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State on Monday, Nov. 14.

    The attack left five persons dead, including the traditional ruler of the community, Ignitus Asor.

    Armed youths stormed the king’s palace where a community matter was being discussed and opened fire indiscriminately.

    The traditional ruler, two palace chiefs, and two other members of the community died on the spot.

    Many others sustained injuries, including the traditional prime minister, Chief Stephen Ajoku.

    The criminals also stormed neighbouring Mgbala community and shot a pregnant woman and a local security officer.

    The hoodlums fled in their motorbikes and vehicles after the attack.

    Also confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relation Officer, Michael Abattam said the police are already on the trail of the hoodlums with the clues in their possession.

    “Yes, it’s true but the police is already investigating the matter, we have clues already and we are on their trail,” Abattam said.

    Insecurity: Gov Bello Suspends Traditional Ruler, Queries Council Chairman Over Ajaokuta Killings In Kogi

    Aftermath of ambushing and killing of three policemen and five vigilantes by some suspected bandits at Ajaokuta last Saturday, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has ordered immediate suspension of the traditional ruler of Ohi of Eganyi and Chairman, Ajaokuta Traditional Area Council, Alhaji Musa Isah Achuja.

    The governor also ordered the council chairman of Ajaokuta local government council, Honorable Mustapha Akaba to be queried.

    This was contained in a press statement issued on Sunday by Onogwu Muhammed, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor which was made available to Journalists in Lokoja.

    In a letter to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kogi State, the governor also directed that the Chairman of Ajaokuta Local Government Area, Hon Mustapha Aka’aba be queried over the breach and should reply within 24 hours.

    The governor’s directive against the affected persons is in connection with the recent security breach in the area which led to the untimely deaths of some security personnel on their legitimate engagements of maintaining law and orders.

    The governor strongly warned other traditional rulers across the state who may have connection in one way or the other with criminal elements in their domains to desist forthwith, saying that his administration will deal ruthlessly with anybody who romances with criminal elements no matter how highly placed they are.

    In the same vein, Governor Bello also directed that all unofficial movements of the local government council chairmen out of their territory and other journeys without due process are hereby restricted.

    The governor warned that no amount of connivance with criminals will deter him from his fundamental responsibility of protecting lives and property of the citizens and residents of the state.

    Gunmen Murder Traditional Ruler, Four Others In Imo

    Gunmen have murdered Edwin Azike, the traditional ruler of Atta ancient kingdom in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.

    The Imo State Police confirmed the incident on Friday.

    According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Abatam, Azike had been abducted on Thursday night.

    His lifeless body was later identified and recovered inside his vehicle along the road leading to the market square in the community on Friday morning.

    Meanwhile, eyewitnesses also told Channels Television that four other people were killed in the community.

    The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police Rabiu Hussaini has directed all the tactical teams to swing into action immediately and go after the perpetrators.

    The incident comes less than 24 hours after another traditional ruler in Mbutu ancient kingdom of Aboh Mbaise Local government area of the state Damian Nwaigwe, was abducted from his palace.

    COVID19 Vaccination: Traditional Ruler Pledges Campaign Lead

    The Chairman of Dekina Local Government Traditional Council in Kogi State, HRM, the Ejeh of Dekina, Dr Usman Obaje, has promised to lead the campaign awareness towards ensuring vaccination of the people in the state.

    The Royal father made this pledge when the delegation of a Non Governmental organisation (NGO), the Challenge Parenthood Initiative (CPI), paid him an advocacy visit at his palace in Dekina Local Government Area.

    Dr Obaje, who was recently appointed as Kogi state Focal Person on Primary Health Care Service Delivery, by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Dr Sa’ad Abubakar, said he will use his office to bring together all traditional rulers in one fold towards spreading the awareness campaign to the people of the state.

    The traditional ruler is also the Chairman Kogi state Northern Traditional Ruler Council (NTRC), representing Kogi State, CPI, for taking the bold step in embarking on the advocacy visit in the state.

    Speaking earlier, the Executive Director of Challenge Parenthood Initiative, Eunice Agbogun, informed the traditional ruler that the advocacy/awareness campaign, was in partnership with the Centre for Information and Technology, (CITAD), with funding from MacArthur Foundation.

    “In the wake of the emergence of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria has begun to see a pandemic of two tracks, where the Delta variant is tearing through unvaccinated populations.”

    “Despite the support by the COVAX Facility led by WHO and UNICEF who have so far delivered 3.9 million doses to Nigeria, the country has continued to suffer from the gross inequity in global vaccine access.”

    She said the campaign was to enhance awareness of the efficacy of the COVID -19 vaccines and mobilize target communities to increase demand for uptake of the vaccines and also build the capacity of Stakeholders on emerging issues in the fight against COVID 19.

    “In the light of Kogi State dynamic effort at curtailing COVID-19 in the state, we are here to discuss strategies to improve the COVID-19 vaccination rate across the state. The current COVID-19 case surge across another part of the country has resulted in the need to encourage citizens of Kogi State to take up responsibilities of adhering to preventive measures aimed at avoiding the spread of COVID-19 from high burden state into Kogi State.”

    She, therefore, stressed the need for both State and Non-State actors to provide the needed interventions to promote the uptake of the vaccines in particular.

    “We, therefore, urge Your Royal Majesty, to use your good office to provide the necessary support for the campaign across the state. Having understood your position as the Kogi state chairman Northern Traditional Rulers Council, we believe you hold a very key position in the promotion of vaccine uptake.”

    According to her, the awareness campaign will involve talk shows and radio jingles.

    Unknown Gunmen Kidnaps Traditional Ruler Inside Mosque

    The Acting Eje of Ankpa in Kogi state, Alhaji Shaibu Usman was Thursday morning kidnapped inside Mosque by unknown gunmen.

    It was reliably gathered that the Acting first class monarch from Kogi east senatorial district was kidnapped inside the mosque while about to observed Zubihi at about 5.30 am.

    According to source, the kidnappers numbering about five  and fully armed stormed the mosque and dragged the acting first class Chief in the presence of other worshipers without resisting the kidnapping of the monarch.

    It was gathered that the Alhaji Shaibu Usman abductors are yet to make any contact with the family.

    The Commissioner of Police, Edeh while confirming the incident to neqsmen said the Police have cordoned all entry and exit point into the State, with the view to rescuing the Traditional Ruler.

    According to CP Edeh, the kidnappers had laid ambushed at the mosque, and Whisked the Traditional Ruler away to yet to be ascertained destination.

    Also speaking on the incident, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said efforts is on to ensure that the traditional ruler is secured safely.

    However, “the Kogi State Government has also put machinery in motion to ensure even more stringent security network during this yuletide.” he assured.

    The people of Ankpa are therefore advised to remain calm as Government is on top of the situation. “We remain committed to security of lives and property.”

    Obanikoro tasks traditional ruler on education of subjects

    A former Minister of State for Defence, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, has advised youths to make the pursuit of education their topmost priority.

    Obanikoro gave the advice at the fifth Coronation Anniversary Ceremony of Oba Abraham Ogabi, the Onimeke of Imeke kingdom, in Badagry.

    Represented by his son, Mr Ibrahim Obanikoro, the former minister urged Ogabi to always preach the importance of education to youths in the area.

    The minister said that education was important in life, as it reduces poverty.

    He noted that that the community had witnessed peace and rapid development since the Oba’s ascension to the throne five years ago.

    Obanikoro commended sons and daughters of the community for allowing peace to reign in Imeke.

    He also congratulated the Oba on his coronation anniversary and prayed that progress would continue to reign in Imeke kingdom.

    The Chairman, Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr Samson Olatunde, said the Oba’s reign had brought more empowerment to the people of Imeke.

    Olatunde said that more youths in the town had found their places in the society, while the community had benefitted from the expansion and construction of social amenities done by the Lagos State’s Gov. Mr Babajide Sanwoolu.

    The chairman said that he was happy to witness Ogabi’s anniversary after spending five years on the throne.

    In his remarks, the Oba said that he had facilitated developmental projects in the kingdom within the five years of ascension to the throne.

    “Today, we have Elderly Peoples Home, the very first in Badagry Division; this is an on-going project by the Lagos State Government.

    “Imeke Bridge has been completed and commissioned under my reign.

    “The community has given land for the construction of modern secondary schools to decongest Iworo-Ajido Secondary School.

    “The Imeke-Ilado- Mosafejo- Aradagun road has been awarded by the state government and the project is on-going.

    “To the glory of God, I have been able to attain the land title of the entire land of Imeke kingdom and registered same at the Land Registry at Alausa, Ikeja.

    “This has been published in two national dailies of Sept.23 this year.

    “This is a major feat in ensuring that modern development of Imeke is accelerated as speedily as possible,’’ he said.

    The Oba said also that the #EndSARS protest had made the community to witness security challenges in recent times.

    He said, however, that a lot of security steps and activities were immediately put in place in conjunction with security agencies and traditionalists to checkmate the nefarious activities of criminals.

    Daybreak reports that traditional rulers in Badagry who graced the anniversary were Oba Oladele, Kosoko, the Oniworo of Iworo, Oba Saheed Adamson, the Aholu of Ajido, Oba Olalekan James, the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom.

    “Others were the Aholu Ajana Toniyon, the Aholu of Ajara Agamathem, Oba Israel Okoja, the Onibereko of Ibereko, Oba Josiah Olanrewaju, the Oloto of Oto-Awori and the representative of Akran of Badagry.
