Nasarawa state Govt. Distributes 4000 bags of 5kg wheat to Women

    By Abel Leonard/ Lafia

Nasarawa State Ministry for Women Affairs, distributed 4000 bags of 5kg wheat flour to women, being food items sent to the state by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, as palliative to women in the state.

Flagging off the distribution at a ceremony in Government House, today Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, appealed to officials handling the distribution to ensure that only those in need of the food items, should benefit.

Sule equally appealed to women associations and groups, through which the food items will be distributed, to ensure that the wheat flour does not end up being sold in the market, which will defeat the essence of the exercise.

The Governor also tasked chairmen of local government areas, as well as officials engaged in the distribution at the council and development area level, to show leadership by ensuring that they distributes all food items in their charge and not to keep some for personal use.
“The idea is that, even if you are taking delivery on behalf of the association, as long as you can afford, show leadership by sharing it all to those who need it and keep none for yourself,” the Governor pleaded.

The governor however, announced the donation of 500 gas cylinders, as further support from the state government, to be distributed alongside the food items.
Earlier, in her opening remarks, Hon. Halima Ahmadu Jabiru, Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, said her ministry has taken delivery of a truckload of wheat flour, earlier approved by the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paulen Tallen, for distribution as palliative to women.

Hon. Jabiru added that the food items, about 4000 bags of 5kg wheat flour, have been allocated to various women groups and associations, as well as local government and development areas of the state, for onward distribution to women in their localities.

While describing the presence of the Governor at the event as further demonstration of his affection for women and what affects them, the Commissioner gave the targeted beneficiaries as the aged, indigent, vulnerable, widows and women with disabilities.

Those present at the event, include the Nasarawa State First Lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, the wife of the state Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sheila Tosan Akabe, Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, state Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Suleiman Umaru Dikko and Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barrister Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu, among others.

  • Skills to learn if you want to impress the ladies

Skills to learn if you want to impress the ladies

The stereotype for impressing women is to whip out some money, and the ladies will come flockin’. While this may help, it won’t attract the type of women you want to meet. Instead, I’m here to tell you about ten other skills that will help you woo a woman.

Not only can you express these skills without looking like a chump, but they’re a lot easier to learn than you might expect!

    1. Learn How to Dance
Girls love a man who isn’t afraid to go out on the dance floor and boogie the night away. Most women will follow along, but even if they don’t, they’ll love that you’re not afraid to go out and show your stuff. Dancing is one of the harder skills to learn because many guys are scared of being judged for their moves. If you find yourself lost on the dance floor, do these three simple things:
Learn simple steps to rely on when you’re stuck
Let loose and move to the rhythm of the music
Keep eye contact with your partner
You won’t be clearing circles in the middle of the floor to show off your moves, but women will be impressed as long as you’re willing to go out and have fun.

    2. Enjoy an Independent Lifestyle
No woman wants a future with a man who still lives off his parents’ money. You don’t have to be Mr. Money Bags or spoil a woman to get her to like you. Yet supporting a significant other financially is a turn-off, and won’t get you far in the dating world. No girl will find financial dependence sexy, and it’s probably not enjoyable from the man’s point-of-view either!
Women want to know that you can live on your own and support yourself — it means you’ll be better suited for starting a family. It’s one of the harder skills to flex, but if you can show a girl you’re financially and socially independent, you’ll look much manlier.

    3. Fix Common Things Around the House
A fix-it mentality is one of the more stereotypical skills to learn as a guy, but it will still impress women. More men are growing up without the general handyman skills the generation before knew. It’s a total turn on if you can change a tire, fix a car engine or do some carpentry work.
A lot of these skills are easy fixes with the right tools and a quick google search. Next time something breaks don’t be afraid to give it a shot before calling in help. To start, invest in essential tools like a screwdriver set, socket wrench, pliers, utility knife and flashlight.

    4. Cook Actual Meals
No, ramen doesn’t count as an actual meal — neither does a cheese quesadilla. I’m not talking about cooking a three-course, 5-star dinner either. Plenty of cheap and straightforward recipes are available that offer the right choice in food for date night. It’s impossible to find a woman who’s unimpressed when a man offers to cook a meal and knows his way around the kitchen.
Start by practicing a couple of meals by yourself to see what works best. Try a variety of dishes, like pasta, steak and tiramisu. Then invite your partner over for a taste test. Don’t forget to ask about diet and allergy restrictions before choosing what to cook! An unknown peanut allergy can make a great date night go south quickly. If the night goes well, you might find yourself a repeat diner.

    5. Be a Good Listener
Girls love a great communicator! Every girl is different, and it’s your job to listen and participate in their interests. One of the best tips I’ve learned about effective communication is to ask questions. So many people will hear others’ experiences and want to chime in with their own. This tactic makes them feel like they’re contributing to the conversation and learning about each other.
What you should really do is ask in-depth questions about the story the person tells. You’ll find out more about the person you’re talking to, and it’ll make you seem super interested in what the other person has to say. For extra listening points, bring up some of the things you picked up later in the day/week to let her know you were paying attention!

    6. Play an Instrument
We’ve all seen the scenes in TV shows and movies. There’s a guy with long hair sitting outside strumming a guitar. Girls are surrounding him with wide Bambi eyes. The reason everyone can picture this scene in their head is because it’s true!
Learning how to play the guitar won’t have girls throwing themselves at you, but it will definitely show off your artistic side and pique a couple of girls’ interests. They’ll see it as a way of expressing your sensibility, which most guys will never let to the surface. It may seem like a big commitment, but playing an instrument is also proven to improve long-term memory , brain development and mental alertness.

    7. Have Manners
Contrary to what nice guys say, girls do notice manners. It’s important to understand there’s a difference between being kind to a girl you like and having manners. Most men are nice to the woman they like. The first rule to attract a girl is to be kind to her. Having manners, though, is entirely different. Real etiquette involves being polite and courteous to everyone you encounter.
A few basic examples are giving your seat to the elderly, holding the door for strangers and respecting others’ personal space. You can teach yourself the rules of engagement from hundreds of examples, but they all boil down to the same thing — be a decent human being. It takes loads of self-control and patience but will pay off in the long run when women appreciate it.

    8. Drink
I’m not talking about shotgunning a beer faster than your buddies or being able to crush an empty can against your head. Discover the other side of drinking, where self-control and sophistication can be displayed while also having a good time. Learn how to prepare a good cocktail, take a class on how to taste wine or walk through the brewing process of different beers. You can learn most of these easily while enjoying some adult beverages with friends.
When done in moderation — and depending on the occasion — drinking can be a very classy affair. Something you should understand with this skill is when to show it off. Being able to read a room is critical. Trying to force fancy drinks on people and using complicated terminology can make you come off as condescending at a casual hang out. If you ease into this desirable skill, I’m confident women will take notice.
For extra drinking points, learn how to open a bottle without a bottle opener, which can come off as masculine and save the party.

    9. Learn Another Language
Learning another language is the hardest skill to achieve off this list, but it pays dividends. If a woman hears you ordering your food in French or Spanish at a fine dining restaurant, they’re bound to be impressed. It also shows worldliness — that you’re likely a well-traveled individual, which is definitely a plus compared to someone who hasn’t left the country.
While this process could easily take a couple of years to master, even knowing a guy is putting effort into learning another language is attractive. It shows dedication, an open mind and a willingness to understand other cultures. To speed up your progress, download a language learning app and ask your date to test their vocabulary.

    10. Learn How to Defend Yourself
Forget impressing anyone. I’d recommend everyone take a defense class just for the safety benefits that come along with it. If nothing else, you can find resources online that outline the basics. Learn how to clear out distractions and focus on your surroundings. You can also find out how to exhibit confident and strong body language.
You never know! Reviewing some of these tips could come in handy one day. Hopefully, you’ll never have to show off this skill. In the case you do, though, it can be incredibly impressive to women if you fend off a mugger or a bully.

    Conclusion
So, which of these skills should you focus on? Start with ones you already have a basic knack for or ones that actually appeal to you. Don’t change your lifestyle in a way that makes you unhappy just to impress a girl.
Also, keep in mind that each woman is different and will appreciate different skills. If you can listen — skill six — find out which she will appreciate more, then focus on improving those skills to woo her! Some girls might love a guy who loves animals. On the other hand, your ideal girl might be looking for a man who knows how to throw a responsible party.

  • 4 Things that make you irresistible to women

4 Things that make you irresistible to women

Biologically, men and women are attracted to each other. However, beyond physical looks, there are other attributes that tend to attract us to each other. These attributes are intangible yet weightier than mere physical attraction, they are what sustain relationships.

So in this context, we have certain attributes that women find irresistible in men:

    1. Purpose
The purpose is knowing why you were gifted life and working hard to achieve that. Purpose brings about focus and drive, and focus and drive are good qualities of a leader.

A man with purpose is a leader. He takes control. Every woman needs a man that can captain her ship; a man she can depend on and lean on. Therefore, a man with purpose and drive is the real deal.

A man without a purpose is blind. And nobody wants to board a ship of a blind captain.

    2. Sense of humour
As women like serious-minded men, so they do funny ones. If not even more. They find too rigid and formal men boring.

Women can’t resist serious-minded men with a good sense of humor; men that know when, where, and how to crake jokes. They love focused and driven men who literally put a smile on their face.

    3. Honesty
Everybody likes honest and trustworthy people and women are not ‘back tires’. Not being honest means you are hiding something.

And only bad people hide things. Women are very possessive and gummy. They want to know and be part of everything about you. They would appreciate it if you were open to them.

How can one claim to love and yet not be honest? Love and honesty walk hand in hand.

Women like honest men because they feel you love them enough to share your secrets with them. They also love men that are real and honest to themselves.

Not men that form what they are not. With honesty comes trustworthiness.

    4. Care and attention
Everybody wants to be pampered. As odd as it may sound, even men want to be pampered, let alone women who are more delicate. Women can’t resist men that are caring.

They also love men that listen and pay attention to them. Listening attentively to a woman shows you love, care, and want to understand her.

Nothing excites a lady more than having a man that loves, cares, and is ever willing to listen to and understand her.

In conclusion, women differ in what they find irresistible in men, but every woman will want to have a man with the aforementioned attributes.

  • COVID-19 Lockdown: Nigerian women risk high rate of rape, unwanted pregnancies – Family health expert

COVID-19 Lockdown: Nigerian women risk high rate of rape, unwanted pregnancies – Family health expert

Ms. Ajani Oluwatobi, a family health expert, says unless adequate measures are put in place, the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic will expose Nigerian women to high risk of rape and unwanted pregnancies.

Oluwatobi made the assertion in a statement she signed and issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Asaba.

She is the Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) Youth Focal Point, Nigeria for Development Communications (DevComs) Network and Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI II).

The family health expert said that the lockdown would expose the women, particularly the younger ones and those within reproductive age, to danger by aggressive men who currently were idle.

According to her, Nigerians should be concerned about high rate of conception and unplanned pregnancy at this time of lockdown against the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in the country.

“Though, it might seem that Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) should be the least of our worries during this COVID-19 outbreak, however, learning from the Ebola experience, such situations could increase the risk of the vulnerable population.

“Such situations often result in internally displaced persons, women and girls being exposed to rape, teenage pregnancy, unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, gender-based violence and domestic violence.

“The coronavirus pandemic is currently affecting the global economy and basically disrupting the world order, and as the days go by, we have continually seen how the unexpected situation affects every aspect of our lives.

“But the sure question is who thinks about sexual activities when people are getting sick and some are dying from COVID-19,” she stated.

Oluwatob said that the social distancing and the lockdown directives of government were reasonable but not without their negative consequences.

According to her, the stay-at-home order which involves closing down offices, businesses, schools, markets and others, creates room for idleness.

“It makes a lot of people including young people very idle. Consequently, adolescent girls and vulnerable women end up in various compromising situations.

“For instance, the young girl that finds school as a safe space is back in the house with that abusive uncle, neighbor or stepfather.

“That woman who intentionally spends most of her time selling in the market to avoid engaging in sexual activities with her husband especially for fear of pregnancy is now stuck with him at home.

“Young people in relationships are more likely to engage in consensual sexual activities this period.

“We should be concerned about high rate of conception and in turn unplanned pregnancies at this period,” she said.

Oluwatobi urged all stakeholders particularly the media to create the awareness and ensure people took the right options as regards their sexual and reproductive life during the period.

“This serves as a reminder to us that social distancing or the stay- at- home policy is not a license to perpetuate gender-based violence, rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment and domestic violence.

“Also, it is crucial that we all take responsibilities for our sexual needs during this time.

“Married and co-habiting couples who are not on a long-acting contraceptive and family planning method should remember to stock up condoms.

“Young people should endeavor to abstain at this time and if they can’t get handy condoms and emergency contraceptives.

“The reality is that this is not a good time to have unplanned pregnancies because the pressure of the pandemic on the health system will affect and disrupt routine Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services,” she said.

Oluwatobi listed such SRH services as family planning, ante-natal services, post-abortion care services, immunisation services, among other. (NAN).

  • IWD: Women can make or mar a nation, says Group

IWD: Women can make or mar a nation, says Group

Some Catholic women on Sunday said that the role of mothers in nation building was inevitable because they can make or mar a nation.

They spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the end of a women’s symposium in commemoration of  the Year 2020 International Women’s Day (IWD) held at Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic cpChurch in Ijegun, a suburb of Lagos.

The guest speaker, Mrs Amaka Ukwedike, Vice President of Catholic Women Organisation, (CWO),   said women should not be limited by gender to take up  any profession or responsibility.

“Women can make it in every sphere of life.  In fact, they hold the key to the success of any nation because they give births to children who in late years become either   husbands, doctors, pastors or even presidents.

“Women should not be denied any  course of study because they can function well in all aspects,  including  governance.

“Government should appoint more women into  key positions, and encourage outstanding ones that performed their responsibilities well,” she said.

Ukwedike, a civil servant, then appealed to mothers not to discourage their female children from taking up professions such as:  Engineering, Carpentry, Architecture, Pilot that are considered tedious for them to handle.

Also, a music artiste, Mrs Ifeoma Nwosu,  urged mothers to rise up to their domestic responsibilities, saying, “a good  and well trained husband, was once a well trained boy by    a good and well  trained woman.

“A mango tree cannot produce an orange fruit, a good mother must surely produce a good son who will turn out to become a good husband or a good president.

“Women are inevitable tools to the success of a nation, that is why we should be given the best training and aid.”

She advised mothers not to reserve some house chores for the girls and others for boys, they should all be given  the same domestic upbringing irrespective of  their genders.

Also speaking, Mrs Anthonia Okoase, said women should be given more privilege in acquiring education because an exposed woman would produce exposed children.

“I think the government should bring out special consideration in the education of the girl child because they in turn, educate the nation.

“Scholarships should be offered to indigent girls  that cannot afford the cost of going through formal education,” she said.

Similarly, Mrs Blessing Eromousele appealed to men to desist from battering or maltreating their wives  in the name of cultural practice.

“God created a woman as a helper and to keep the  company of her husband and not a second class citizen nor slave, we are equal creations of God and should be given adequate opportunities in life,” she said.

The women shared gender discrimination experiences among themselves and resolved to pioneer the call for positive change and resolutions.

IWD is a global day for celebrating social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world.

The theme for this year is “I am Generation Equality: Realising Women’s Rights.” (NAN)

  • Words every woman wants to hear from her man

Words every woman wants to hear from her man

Communication and compliments are key in every relationship.

Every guy should know to win his woman’s heart over and over again with sweet words and give her the right amount of time without scaring her off.

Just as the wrong phrase can set your lover off, a perfectly worded sentence can also open unlimited doors for you.

    1. You’re the only one for me

This phrase will make your woman feel loved, honored and special. It shows devotion and most importantly, genuine love.

    2. Your work is so important

Women feel proud when their partners motivate them to work harder. Juggling between office work, taking care of your children and managing a lovely home is not an easy job.

Women want to feel validated that their work is being seen and valued, especially by the person they care about most. Don’t wait for mother’s day before you shower them with gifts and inspire them.

    3. I feel like I can tell you anything

A relationship without trust will eventually hit the rocks. Women tend to love their partners unconditionally when they openly tell them about their issues.

Men should have the courage to tell their woman every detail about his cheating scandal. Love is painful. she will forgive and forget because of the marital vows and finds ways to keep her family intact.

    4. Tell me about your day

Women love men who listen to them talk about everything from her work, an argument with friends to her bad hair day.

She feels fortunate because she has someone to share her joy and sorrows with.

    5. I’ve got this

Even the most independent capable woman sometimes wants to turn over the reins. Women want men who will assist her in times of need. Sometimes too, it’s not about making her feel like she can’t do something, it’s about making her feel like you want to help her out.

    6. I love spending time with you

The more time you spend together, the more time you get to know them. It will help strengthen your bond while making bittersweet memories.

Knowing that their partner feels that they are a blast to around allows women to feel more confident and more settled in their relationship.”

    7. Can I get your perspective on this?

Showing your partner you actually want her help and value her opinion is a great idea. It goes a long way toward showing your confidence in her and her abilities.

    8. You are so sexy

Just as women always compliment their partners when they wear new apparel and show appreciation for a gesture, they also specifically love to hear that you find them sexy inside out.

He said that the small-scale loans and others would be targeted at women and youth entrepreneurs at the grassroots.
The governor also disclosed that a higher loan scheme for high level business owners was also being designed for higher investments.
He said that the bank would be established in each of the three senatorial districts, with diverse acceptable Islamic financial systems for people’s development.
Tambuwal said that traders, allied unions and other stakeholders were included to ensure accelerated growth, adding that beneficiaries were selected from all the 23 local government areas of the state.

  • NGO seeks to empower out-of-school girls, physically-challenged through sports, education

NGO seeks to empower out-of-school girls, physically-challenged through sports, education

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Additional Plus Sports and Education Initiative (APSE), on Wednesday said it would empower not less than 60 out-of-school girls, women and physically-challenged through sports.

The Executive Director of APSE, Oluwaseun Narwoh, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, bemoaned the high rate of out-of-school girls in the country.

Narwoh, who spoke on the sidelines of the organisation’s programme aimed at empowering young girls, women and the physically-challenged, urged for an urgent redress.

APSE is a non-profit organisation with the objectives of empowering young girls and women, including those with disabilities.

“APSE shall be empowering 60 participants and this is specifically for young people between ages 6 and 11 in the Mowe area of Ogun, and this empowerment is hinged on harnessing hidden potential through sports and education.

“We also want to create communal unity through leisure experience which will serve as an empowerment scheme towards the discovery and nurturing of identified talents for a more gratifying future.

“It will be an avenue for the participants to be gainfully involved and engaged at their formative stage, since sports is a laboratory for talent and character-building necessary for any national advancement,’’ the APSE executive director said.

She added that the scheme was for the exclusive intention of promoting diversity and social justice through the APSE Academy.

Narwoh then disclosed that APSE would on Saturday hold a programme tagged “Awaken the Giant 1.0 Challenge’’ at the Eminent Kids Montessori School in Mowe.

She said the organisation’s pet project was a start-up innovation programme for the development of young girls through the introduction of sports and Reading Club at the grassroots across Nigeria.

“The management of APSE is launching the programme in Mowe in partnership with Eminent Kids Montessori School owing to the fact that there is no existence of sports there presently.

“We understand that, worldwide, sports is an unrivaled tool that transcends all geographical barriers, age, ethnicity and social status.

“The idea was borne out of the need to promote mass participation of young girls in sports and education, since sports provides hope where there seems to be none.

“Also, education provides knowledge which is power,’’ Narwoh said.

She said the vision of the NGO was to improve the orientation of girls on how they could sustain their education alongside their engagement in sports activities.

“The vision of the clinic is to establish and sustain sports and reading club in local communities, and the mission is a continuous process of grooming participants in various sports.

“So, we have sports such as table tennis, basketball, scrabble, football and athletics, with the aim of grooming the young ones to stardom through an exposure to state, national and global opportunities.

“Having attended the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime workshop organised for civil society organisations (CSOs) in Nigeria, the resource materials shared on Doha Declaration on Education for Justice (E4J) Initiative tools shall be used in sustaining the reading club.

“Along the line, this will help in promoting the culture of lawfulness amongst young people in Nigeria,” the APSE official said.(NAN)

  • FG begins distribution of cooking gas to 13,000 rural women in Nasarawa

FG begins distribution of cooking gas to 13,000 rural women in Nasarawa

The Federal Government on Tuesday in Nasarawa state commenced the distribution of cooking gas to 13,000 rural women across the state as part of efforts to check hazardous emissions.

Mrs Pauline Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, while flagging off the exercise in Lafia, said it was the first phase of the National Cooking Gas project and Tree planting initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tallen said that the President had directed the supply of cooking gas cylinders to 1,000 rural women in each of the 774 local government areas across the country.

The minister explained that the project being piloted in Nasarawa state would be executed in three phases across the country.

She said the timing of the project was apt in view of the world’s attention towards reducing effects of green-house emission in the society.

“According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), emission from cook stoves kills about 4.3 million people annually through air pollution and indoor smoke inhalation causing respiratory diseases and death.

“This event is to create awareness and sensitise the public, particularly women and other stakeholders, on the effect of using firewood for cooking.

“It is also to sensitise them on the health and environmental problems associated with cooking with firewood, and to introduce the women to the use of alternate clean stoves,’’ Tallen said.

Similarly, the Minister also flagged off economic tree planting exercise as part of efforts towards addressing effects of deforestation and climate change.

“This is also in line with Mr President’s pledge at the United Nations General Assembly session in 2019 to plant 25 million tree within one year,’’ she said.

She advised the state, local government areas and civil society organisations to support federal government effort to scale down the project to the various communities.

Nasarawa governor Abdullahi Sule in a speech at the occasion, commended the federal government for the initiative and for choosing Nasarawa state for the pilot phase.

He urged the people of the state to embrace the use of alternate clean stove for cooking rather than firewood given the related poisonous gas emission hazard.

Sule pointed out that Nasarawa state had already keyed into the tree planting campaign having launched it in August 2019 in Akwanga local government area.

He, therefore, called on the people to imbibe the culture of tree planting by replacing any tree fell with three new ones.

Hajiya Halima Jabiru, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, lauded the federal and state governments for their women-friendly dispositions.

She urged the beneficiaries to use the cooking gas for the purpose it was meant as the ministry had taken measures to ensure they do not sell them. (NAN)
