The Queen and Prince Philip meet little Archie

The Queen was seen meeting her new great-grandson Archie for the first time alongside proud new parents Meghan and Harry.

The monarch beamed with joy during her encounter with the seventh-in-line to the throne at Windsor Castle today.

Pictures released by the Palace show the Queen and Prince Philip inspecting the new arrival up close in the company of Meghan Markle’s mother Doria.

Prince Philip and Prince Harry stood just a couple paces behind the ladies who were crowded around Archie.

The touching photograph shows three different generations of the royal family in one room and was released to the world on the Duke and Duchesses’ Instagram account.

The newborn, named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, is the monarch’s eighth great-grandchild.

The three-day-old tot made his debut wrapped in a white merino wool shawl and white cashmere hat.

The couple’s first child, who is happy and healthy, was born at 5.26am on Monday weighing 7lbs 3oz.

In a statement posted on Instagram this afternoon, the couple said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

“This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

Proud mum Meghan, 37, told earlier how her son “has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm.”

Asked who the baby takes after, Meghan told reporters: “We’re still trying to figure that out.”

Harry added: “Everyone says that babies change so much over two weeks. We’re basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month really. But his looks are changing every single day, so who knows.”

The baby was sleeping soundly, wrapped in a white blanket and wearing a delicate white knitted hat.
