President Bola Tinubu briefly stumbled and fell in Ankara, Turkey, on Tuesday during an official engagement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The incident occurred as President Tinubu was walking alongside his host after inspecting a guard of honour as part of a formal reception. A video of the moment showed a cameraman moving close to the president shortly before he missed his step and fell.
The president was quickly assisted, and there were no immediate indications of serious injury.
This is not the first time such an incident has drawn public attention. During the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations in 2024 at Eagle Square, Abuja, President Tinubu also tripped while mounting a parade vehicle but was promptly helped by security aides.
He later addressed that incident lightheartedly at a Democracy Day dinner, describing it as a “swagger” and joking about social media reactions.
The presidency has not issued a formal statement on Tuesday’s incident, but the brief stumble did not appear to disrupt the scheduled engagements in Turkey.
