Tinubu Commissions 60MW Power Plant, Key Roads and Bridge in Bayelsa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a 60-megawatt gas-fired power plant and major road and bridge projects in Bayelsa State, aimed at improving electricity supply and connectivity in the Niger Delta. The projects commissioned in Yenagoa include the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge, the dualised New Yenagoa City road linking the airport, and the Sagbama–Ekeremor road. The President also virtually commissioned the Bayelsa West senatorial road network.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting, Tinubu described the power plant as critical to strengthening energy security and supporting industrial growth. He said reliable electricity remains essential for economic expansion and improved living standards. The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with states to drive development, noting the strategic importance of the Niger Delta to the national economy.

Governor Douye Diri said the projects would address long-standing infrastructure gaps and improve mobility, particularly for riverine communities. He noted that the Angiama–Oporoma Bridge would benefit dozens of communities by easing the movement of people and goods.Other projects, including the airport link road and Sagbama–Ekeremor road, are expected to enhance access and open up more areas for economic activities. Dignitaries at the event included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and several state governors.
