Top scrabble players feature at 2nd Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship in Yenagoa.

The second edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship has commenced as top scrabble players in Nigeria are taking part in the two day event at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha memorial banquet Hall, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Over three hundred scrabble players from across the country are taking part in five categories in the two day competition with a total prize money of N5 Million up for grabs

Participants are competing in , the Masters, Intermediate, Veterans, the Opens and Students categories with the star prize of N500,000 going to the winner of the Masters event while the champion of the Intermediate will smile home with N300,000, as the Veterans winner will be richer by N250,000.

President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation Olobatoke Aka stated that the Governor Douye Diri National Championship is the biggest event in the calendar of the Federation where top players in the country compete.

Host and Chairman of the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association, Daniel Alabrah, said this year’s edition is an improvement from the first edition in terms of number of players and rewards.

Alabrah, who is Chief Press Secretary to the governor said the target was mainly to encourage students in Bayelsa State to play the game of scrabble.

Alabrah gave thumbs up to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri’s over his commitment to sports development in general and the game of scrabble in particular, stressing that the governor’s scrabble championship is a veritable vehicle to develop the game of words and the mind.

Some of the players expressed excitement at the opportunity to participate in the 2022 edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship which will come to a climax on Sunday with various prizes and trophies to be won.
