Trademore fire incidence: NEMA deploys rescue team

Following a distress call on the fire disaster which engulfed a market at Trademore Estate, Lugbe, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said that it responded swiftly by deploying the Fire Service and Nigeria Police to control the incident.

A statement from the NEMA office in Abuja, said that the Head of NEMA Abuja Operation Office, Mr. Justin Owazuruonye led the rescue team to the location of the incident after it received a distress call at about 04:50 hours this morning from Trademore Estate.

According to the Agency, the fire, which primarily affected the food market section of the estate, has been brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby residential buildings.

Fortunately, no life was lost in the incident, however, foodstuffs that can be estimated at huge value were lost in the incident.

Director General NEMA Mrs. Zubaida Umar commended the rescue team members for their timely response to the incident.

The cause and extent of the fire is being investigated by the relevant authorities, NEMA said.
