Tragedy in Benue as Man Fatally Stabs Retired Nurse and Housemaid

In a horrific incident around the Federal Low Cost area in Makurdi, Benue State, a retired nurse, Mrs. Esther Amali, and her housemaid, Mercy Mwuese, were brutally stabbed to death by an assailant.

The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 4:30 pm. According to an eyewitness, the attacker entered the compound and assaulted the housemaid, who was in her 20s, while the retired nurse was away.

There are conflicting versions regarding the motive behind the attack. One version suggests that the housemaid was impregnated by a member of a rival cult, allegedly involved in killing one of their members. Another version claims that the housemaid had a dispute with the attacker over his friend, whom she accused of fathering her child.

The suspected murderer had reportedly warned the deceased housemaid to stop linking his friend to her baby’s paternity.

The assailant gained access to the house by scaling a fence. When the retired nurse returned home and heard the commotion, she rushed in to find the young man stabbing the housemaid. Despite her pleas, the attacker continued the assault, stabbing both victims multiple times.

Neighbors rushed the victims to the hospital, but tragically, the retired nurse succumbed to her injuries before reaching medical assistance. The housemaid’s baby has been taken into custody by a neighbor.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi. The police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, has yet to provide further information on the incident.
