Tragic Death of Lagos Woman After Drinking Insecticide

By Milcah Tanimu

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a 39-year-old woman, Lilian Nwarache, who consumed insecticide in the Iwaya area of Lagos. She reportedly took this drastic step due to her prolonged illness and frustration.

Lilian Nwarache had been suffering from a protracted illness and had sought help in a church in Iwaya. However, her condition led to frustration, and on November 3, 2023, she drank a full bottle of insecticide. It was reported that she also attempted to jump into a canal after consuming the insecticide but was prevented by passers-by. She was then rushed to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed her death.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that three passports belonging to the deceased were found in her bag, along with her Samsung phone.

Efforts are underway to contact her family members, and her body has been deposited at the Lagos Mainland Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy. Preliminary investigations are also ongoing to better understand the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
