Blessing Karami, a student at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), who was reported missing on September 11, has been discovered deceased.
Blessing had been declared missing after leaving her workplace in Garki, Abuja. Tragically, her family has now confirmed to The Whistler that her lifeless body was found on Wednesday evening.
Genesis Moses Karami, the deceased’s elder brother, who had relocated from Kaduna to Abuja to lead the search efforts, revealed that her decomposing remains were located in the bush in the Karmo district of the Federal Capital Territory.
The police had detained one Aminu, the boyfriend of the deceased, for questioning regarding her disappearance.
On Wednesday morning, reporters from the mentioned platform visited the Divisional Police Headquarters in Durumi, where Aminu was being held.
Karami was at the station, explaining to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), that on Tuesday evening, after he left the station, he received a strange call providing details about his sister’s body. However, it turned out to be a false lead.
“The caller said he saw a female body in Idu, so we asked him to describe what she was wearing, and he told us exactly what we were told my sister wore to the office on the day she went missing,” the brother had explained to the police.
Karami continued to make attempts to contact the DPO, but his calls went unanswered. Consequently, he had to go to the police station in Karmo with a group of officers. However, the caller kept changing locations, and the search proved fruitless until they left.
In a later phone call, Karami received confirmation that his sister had indeed passed away.
“We saw her decomposed body in the bush here at Karmo. It’s not something we can move. We have to arrange with the environmental authorities to come and assist us with the removal.
“We cannot transport her. We have no choice but to bury her here. It appears she had been deceased for days, given the advanced stage of decomposition,” Karami sadly recounted while trying to maintain composure.
